RS achievements in the wrong category (4/4/19)

Lore
- Benedict's World Tour > No lore involved, just fancy images. Else "Talk to Woman (Level 1)" becomes lore.
- Potion for a Lady (Meilyr Potion Recipe) > Not lore
- Potion Mixer Master (26 Combo potions) > Not lore
- Quiet but Deadly Lore (all 4 QBD journals) > If it isn't dropped with a near 100% drop chance, I consider it insane for Lore. This is the "if you kill it, story moves on" category. Hundreds of the same bosses to slay? It goes to combat or insane lore. Or change the drop rate *shrug*

Skills
- 120 Dung, slay and inv > Tier 2. Because of feelings I have about doing so much repetive stuff after getting 99. All 99 is no small feat.

Area
- Unlock the 'Salty' title > Insane
- Unlock the 'Sandy' title > Insane
- Unlocking more waiko >
- Upgrading all of the waiko > One of these have 25k chimes/50 tajitu cosmetic unlocks, that's insane.
- Music Maestro (Unlock all music tracks) > Misc
- Duck T1, Great gielinor run T2 and all chimp ice T3
- Fill up luthas' crate with banans and get paid > Karamja tasks

Activities
- Tag 30 brimhaven agility pillars in a row > Too easy
- Lunar Master (Unlock all lunar spells)(Inc living farm) > Insane

New category: Things to complete with others
- 99/120 dung
- Last riders (KBD book)
- Castle wars

(Do you do 'or' tasks btw? Do you do 2 birds with one stone? Try it AFTER forcing tasks in 1 category)
My ideas dump thread

Is this some kind of a joke? Why are achievements even linked to new comp/trim? Killing Rax in bronze: used to be a Youtuber thing, no idea whats comp about that. Complete 200 city quests: what does that even unlock? 1000% Telos new req (??!!) Ok, if you wana go "crazy" add full kethsi and abyssal hound. etc. etc.
Sorry but this seems so arbitrary, just accept the fact that you can't unlock anything ingame! Also, I still think we just need to solve this problem in a simple way ("KIS&quot ;) : add a (bis?) combat cape that works like mqc. Remove some reqs from comp, add newer reqs to trim (nemi rep, gw2, farm unlocks, etc.) and thats it!!! So easy and everyone is happy...

And btw: how much people even achieved 1000% Telos?!
15 years playing Runescape - trim #1160 - 5.4/5.4B XP- Proud owner of a Krar Jnr, full Keth*i outfit and MQC.

Can we scrap Comp completely and just let RuneScore represent arbitrary achievements? The entire concept of "completionist" is broken because there's no completing runescape. Prestigious goals and wacky achievements aren't for everyone and not everyone's going to be a pro jack of all trades skiller/lorehound/pvmer. The idea of tying achievements with the completionist cape just holds back achievements.

I more or less agree with the people above that the suggested division of currently existing achievements into tiers is very rickety (see also my comments on the previous page). Especially for combat (95% of it is bossing; no Barbarian Assault, no Pest Control, no PvP, no Champions' Challenge, etc.) and skills (tier 1 and 2 should be swapped, and maybe add "get one 99" to tier 1), and of course activities which is just lacking in achievements (ideally every activity should have 10-20 achievements on its own).

I've said this already, but let me now also stress, if I hadn't done so earlier, that many achievements should sit in the same category, whereas in the current suggestion they are all used only once. E.g. "defeat all champions" should be in tier 3 combat and minigames. "Complete all Dominion Tower achivements" ditto but tier 2. "Unlock all Lunar Spells" should be tier 3 quests (because many are rewards from Dream Mentor, Lunar Diplomacy and Ritual of the Mahjarrat, as well as Livid Farm) and skills (because Livid Farm is like a skill training area for Magic and Farming) but not minigames. Obtaining a dragon defender should be both combat (tier 1) and minigames (tier 2).

Etc.

Perhaps you're half right; perhaps we can't win. But we can fight.

I can see the potential for this allowing forks in the road for people who'll never be able to fully comp due to PVM elements or more (which will increase over time, if what you're saying is true regarding this new system) by allowing them to focus on a specific tier and still have something to work towards.

So it should satisfy almost everyone, however, I do think you've unknowingly set yourself up for failure for a tiered system like this due to wanting to create concrete specifics now; as when first introducing comp way back when you tied achievements, items etc. to combat and RNG - namely lore drops, pages and books etc.

Personally I don't see the relevant connection between combat and lore as lore is essentially the same as mythology or history but in the sense of a game, most of which is written down AKA. made up or artifacts and such things.

Granted replacing drops from killing things to a more mundane method (whatever that could be) would be extreme however it would open up a category for another specific type of player who may actually enjoy that but if something involves combat.. shouldn't it be in the combat catergories? Otherwise you're already breaking your own new rules in the development stage before the system is even implemented into the game.

The skills, areas and activities categories look forgiving but still respectfully challenging in their own right and respective areas.

T1 of the skill category does look rather.. set in stone though, granted we are talking about completionist tiers so it does make sense and I can't fault it for that reason but could anything else really be equivalent to all 99s and 120 dungeoneering, slayer and invention? If you add less demanding achievements than those then I could see the issue of the tiered system becoming just as confused as the current one.

Regarding the activites category, this could potentially revive minigames due to how the new tiered system seems to work which on paper looks nice, dare I say.. promising.

However, it may lead to creating the issue which castle wars currently has on a much larger scale across the board and that is no one actually plays the minigame which takes away from the experience of those there to actually play it due to being outnumbered or games being rigged - they only stand around doing the bare minimum if they can't just stand there and literally do fuck all for the entirety of the game.

I suspect what I'm thinking of would be more along the lines of a minigame rework/overhaul rather than a comp rework. But I do think, if it was possible, having rewards or even achievements etc. being tied to active participation rather than the end result being what dictates the reward(s) that could help combat that issue.

I do have to say that the combat categories look like they're only really T2 and T3, especially if reaper crew is going to go straight on to the T1 category. I think it would be more reasonable to echo that forgiveness and respectful challenge of the three categories I mentioned above across the board as much as possible, especially if the intention of this rework is to make it more easily digestable and categorized than how the current system is?

Viewing the combat tiers in regards to actual combat difficulty might help in determining what goes where in regards to that particular category-maybe dividing them between each tier could be one way of going about it. Personally I don't see the logic in having kills like Solak etc. being required for what is effectively a T1 category, you're essentially forcing group content that's rampant with elitism for a T1 category by doing so which is already a barrier for some currently.

While this does look promising and more indepth how it works,I am somewhat weary of trusting the outcome.

The tiering itself doesn't really sound too shabby and allows for some great progression paths.

I guess some players won't be too happy that the reaper still is the tier 1 combat cape (under the assumption that group bosses stay at tier 1) - but in contrary to the exisiting variant it at least now has some justification to be there (as those capes will be achievement based rather than on completables/unlockables).

Lore: Since this is the best covered area in the game already this sounds more than reasonable. Just add a missing thing every now and then. Maybe one thing as I am not sure if it's simply taken over from the existing concept: Have the tier 1 cape really require all quests instead of just maximum quest points. If you deemed a reworked quest as worthy enough for existing players to be replayable, it should also be a requirement.

Skills: Sounds good - with the max cape still being there basically is a four tier progression path there now.

Activities: Hmm - I guess just playing every minigame once really wouldn't be worth something cape of distinction-esque, but maybe tier 3 (or even 2) could be worth one? The current set of achievements might have too few stuff to define that properly, but there could new achievements be added, right?

Areas: Well - I highly doubt it could be better covered than this.

It's also good that misc is reserved for some weirder stuff and it won't need a tiering that way. Just use it for more exotic challenges that shouldn't need some justification for 'completiotism'.

Commentary for 'insane' achievements: Design this system in a way you can always extend it. In the future we certainly will have challenges that will be a lot harder than the floor of tier 2, but nothing players would call insane. If this happens move every odd one out to a new tier 3 and everything that still would be 'insane' by defintion to a hypothetical tier 4.

If it takes too much dev time, just take the quest/lore capes and recolour the blue bits red (for minigames) or green (for exploration/areas). It's a bit cheap but still very cool, and should take very little additional time.

I guess at least for the QPC it would only work with the legacy style, since the modern one has a compass emblem rather than a star. A recoloured MQC for tier 2/3 (I guess the new t3 lore cape will be based on the MQC) wouldn't sound too shabby though.

The livid farm spells were excluded from the MQC back then in the second draft since it had no lore relevance (basically nothing else, but randomly being placed in a quest locked area). The thing is, if livid farm was lore content everything in a quest locked area should be lore content as well). And that would drastically overbloat the lore cape compared to every single other category.

While I think some achievements are ambigious (unlocking the livid farm spells could either be skill or activity based) they should find a distinct cape for everything - that would lead to the question should unlocking a specific minigame/d&d based skilling set be based on said skill or an activity? I'd personally rather say activity, while skill stuff should be more like 'do x with your skill'. I'd personally could understand either solution, but most ambigious achievements should be more part of a certain category than part of the other one(s).

Please rename Lore to 'Quests and Lore' and Activites to 'Minigames and D&Ds'.

As far as I understand activities are more than just minigames and D&Ds, since tier 1 literally says including those two pieces of content. Livid farm certainly also would be an activity, while neither being minigame nor D&D. Maybe stuff like the player owned farm could be defined as an activity as well?

Ok that makes sense, but also I have had comp cape for over 5 years now. I just don’t have the requirements of it right now like, solak and ed2 and ed3. So I’m not that far away from getting comp cape and wearing it again. I was just wondering if I could wear it after the update since it’s been in my bank for about 2 years now.

With that new information towards the cape design you got the legacy comp and mostly the new tier 1 comp capes. Combat, Lore, Exploration and Skills is fully completed (with some progress towards tier 2) no matter what, Misc doesn't feature a meta. So you basically just would need to play each activity once to start out in the new system.
