I hope it doesn't flop. Jagex does not have the greatest track record when it comes to projects outside of Runescape. But it seems they are pouring lots of money, experienced devs, and industry leadership into this one.

Yeah. I'm hoping it doesn't flop.I mean they have a lot of experience at this point in developing new games (albeit not good ones), but this might be the one that works. Who knows.

Since EA released their very successful secret game Apex Legends, the trend of the video game industry has changed to secret projects. Jagex has also gone with the flow, so much less reveals and talks on the new projects now.

They are also focusing on the gaining new players COVID-19 and RS3 Mobile in the coming couple of months anyway.

We can still get some information from their Job adverts regarding the new projects though.

I've been following them pretty closely on their website. Not much has changed in the last 6months unfortunately though.

I don't think they will show (or leak) concept arts and videos like in the past, but you can still see information from their job adverts and such. For instance, in one of their current job advert for a Lead Artist of a new title, the requirements include "portfolio work of ‘hands on’ outstanding AAA UI art in Real-time application". Not long ago, they let a group of visitors to look at their new projects in their HQ. There are just not so many "leaks" as in the past.

It was obvious years ago that the biggest issue Runescape is facing is an overcrowded overworld.
Once upon a time there was lots of nice empty space to breathe in, but now there are very few areas, especially in the F2P section, where there aren't 10 different flashy questgivers, minigames, or skilling hubs vying for real-estate.

That should be the #1 focus of a global rework. Everything else mentioned just seems excessive.

"Mario Rizzo has joined Jagex as Executive Producer of an unannounced massive multiplayer online role-player game. Mario has been developing MMORPGs for 17 years, having begun his career working at Sony as a producer on the EverQuest series & Star Wars Galaxies. Mario was later responsible for the global publishing of Games as a Service at Electronic Arts and Ubisoft. He most recently co-founded Artisan Studios and led the company as CEO."

This "unannounced massive multiplayer role-playing game" is probably the Runescape Remastered being discussed on this thread.

I think the original idea of ‘Runescape remastered’ may have been shelved or scrapped altogether.

With a newer revision of ‘RSR’ possibly in production.

Given the original Runescape Remastered was announced in 2017 or 3 years ago, I have no doubt many changes have been made to incorporate more modernized content. For instance, We have new content like Anachronia and a brand new skill with brand new mechanics in RS3, I'll guess at least the lore of the new unannounced MMORPG will need to be changed accordingly too. What I don't think are changing will be the new tick system, dynamic weather system and perhaps the core gameplay like transformation/mutation.

Again, the overall goal of an RS4 should probably be as a massive cleanup effort of the game, with a blank slate over the mounds of dead content and legacy systems RS3 still carries over from early RS2.

The new MMORPG is definitely not RS4. It is a totally new game to run in conjunction with RS3, OSRS and other games Jagex develop or publish, but not to replace them at all.
