I also play another 20 year old game - Warcraft too. And both of them have actually become quite similar in many features lately. I am glad some other game commenters share the same feeling with me. For instance:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/runescape-3-s-necromancy-skill-is-a-perfect-blueprint-for-world-of-warcraft/ar-AA1hpqr0

So, playing RS3 Necromancy is also like playing WoW class and future WoW classes for the next 22 years.

"World of Warcraft: Dragonflight introduces the Evoker class, paving the way for future classes like the Necromancer.

RuneScape 3's new combat skill, Necromancy, could serve as inspiration for a potential Necromancer class in World of Warcraft.

The Necromancer class in RuneScape combines tank and power specializations, making it a unique addition to World of Warcraft and offering potential for healing and support abilities."

"RuneScape 3 is similar to WoW in a number of ways, even predating the latter by several years. The charming world of Gielinor may have had its heyday, but the modern version of RuneScape has recently incorporated a new combat style, Necromancy, an act that's unprecedented since the game’s release."

In RS3, I find not only RS3 players to play for such similar ongoing persistent content, but also WoW players to play with too.

One of the first and only games I really got into.

In c.2004, I was at a friend's house and saw him playing RS. He was learning to fish on Tutorial Island and somehow this hooked me (pun intended).

The size of the game, different locations and quests in particular were exciting.

I loved setting up a clan, hosting events and having a good time with friends - some of whom I've known for 10-15 years, but entirely through RS.

The nostalgia factor is a biggie.

A couple of posts that were flaming and discussing other users have been removed. The portion of one that was on topic has been quoted below to help keep the discussion on topic.

Never ending stories. We are about to have another interesting chapter continuing our Halloween stories with the Four Horsemen debuted 5 years ago, and new guest Rasial too.

Perhaps we should hear some information about the stories later this week, when the RS3 team is allowed to make it visible.

I am also very interested to hear the stories adopted from the Runescape Comics. Anticipating new stories being added endlessly from new sources within or outside the game really keeps the immersion going for 22 more years.

Must be the never ending stories of the daily adventures of us World Guardian. The episodic stories updates for 15+ years have established a firm bonding between our real life and the fantasy world of RS3.

Perhaps the latest Jagex slogan "We make forever games" explains why I want to play this game. It is a forever game, not in the sense the game itself will definitely last forever but the adventures and real life fun we have experienced will last forever, as long as we live. RS3 has made this game forever in our minds. The question is in what form? Fantasy world as it will last another century or an eternity? New games but with the same World Guardian and other IP? Physcial games like board games or other IP products like comic books with our Signature Heroes like they are in Marvel or DC comics?

There are just a small handful of games that give us such decades long "forever games" feeling,

A friend of mine is attracted by this official RS3 trailer on Vorkath, Necromancy and Signature Hereoes:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdRUcFqL2lQ

The gods are gone from Gielinor... It seems like we are waiting forever for the next universe ending threat... The Shadow's servants still spread the powers of their master... There is no necromantic magic too unholy for them to use... but as long as we draw breath we will fight with the Signature Heroes...

These are dark days but as long as there are heroes there is hope!

But wait... this official RS3 trailer was actually released in 2010, or 13 years ago when Guthix was still sleeping, and Xua-Tak, Vorkath, the shadow and whatnots were barely heard of.

Amazing. All these upcoming stories in 2023 seemingly were already prophesized in 2010. ;)

This is also why many players are still playing RS3, and even more will be playing RS3 13 more years later in 2036, because these are the continuing stories of the heroes.

As long as there are heroes there is hope, even 13 years from now... and we are not just the heroes - we are the World Guardian... we are the iconic leaders of the Signature Heroes. In 2036, we will still be racing on the thunder and rising with the heat.... and by then we should have mounts, and we will see Sir Owen upon Pegasus the fiery steed. :)

As our fellow guardian Raisial told us, World guardian is a responsibility... We are behooved to keep the forever sagas of the Runescapian Universe going and going and going...

OK. Now we have not only defeated Vorkath, but was also able to have him turned against Zemo?

What's next? The Misthalin Storyline will start after the Christmas Holiday probably. Don't forget we have to fend off the universe ending "dark gods" too. Don't we want to have first hand experience in this forever game?

As Eurogamer and MassielyOP stated at the end of the cinematic trailer, this is "a behemoth of a game" and "a game that demands to be taken seriously". So, I'll go with what Jagex told us:

"Become a legend. Start the adventue!"
