Happy Friday 'Scapers.
It has not been a great day today.
My mom and I were involved in a serious auto accident. Physically, everyone is fine.
We were first in line waiting to cross a two-way street to get from one shopping plaza to another. Our light turned green, and we slowly entered the street. A young woman driving an SUV ran her red light at high speed and rammed us on the driver's side. There was a loud bang as the vehicle was impacted and all the side airbags deployed. I knew I was unhurt. My concern was for Mom, who was driving. She was naturally shaken up and upset, but thankfully was not injured. Nobody in the other vehicle got hurt. That car's front end was totally destroyed.
Police, Fire, and Rescue were on the scene right away. A few civilians who saw the accident checked to make sure we were ok. One nice guy brought us some bottled water.
We were able to drive from the intersection to the parking lot we had been going towards. We were able to call my dad and my aunt. They came to pick us up. Mom's car was brought to her mechanic there in town, who had JUST put four brand new tires on the car yesterday!
The woman who hit us felt horrible. She admitted to the police she was at fault and fortunately has insurance. She kept saying how sorry she was, checked to make sure we were not hurt, and even gave Mom a hug.
So yeah, not a great day - but things could have gone much worse.
My reasons for sharing this tale are to show that even in this messed up insane world, there are still good and decent people who will help others because it is the caring thing to do.
Also, if you are ever tempted to run a red light, rethink it and slow the hell down. You may well spare yourself and others from having a bad day - or a tragic one.
Stay safe, 'Scapers.
