Unless someone can show us any Jagex words regarding Avatar Refresh since the livestream video I linked on Page 1, Post 9, that were different from that livestream, we can easily see they are absolutely trustworthy.

They haven't been focusing on Avatar Refresh since the livestream on January and we are approaching the last quarter of the year. Barring any unexpected updates, we won't see Avatar Refresh in 2023 just as they said 9 months ago.

They said the team's efforts are going to be spent on high priorities projects. Rest assured, we get Necromancy and City of Um. We also got a lot of area reworks, lighting and participle updates among other graphics updates all over Overworld Gielinor. A head up here - Mountains are going to get a Refresh next week.

Although we don't see our player character refresh this year, we are getting many NPC Refresh. And we will get even more later, for instance, goblins are next going to get refreshed. All kinds of player character refresh can be tested on the lowly goblins and such that aren't important to most players, hence new character models may be able to be tested on low leverages NPCs like goblins.

The more they update the rest of the game and the NPC the more the character we are playing feels wrong and outdated, it should be a priority.

Especially the hairstyles and the face they look pretty bad now when you wear a new armor with high res...

Not at all. Otherwise why would players asked for NPC updates too? Why did they want old guards, goblins etc updated? Why did they ask for Karamja refresh which turns into the grand Overworld Refresh with the entire Karamja, part of Varrock, Ardougne, Traverly among other old locations, as well as all the water bodies, trees, and soon mountains refreshed too?

Players want the old RS3 remastered. It is getting really boring to stare at the same old graphic looks of areas, mobs, and other features for over 10 years.

The graphical remasters of areas never work out. By the time they finish remastering every area, it'll have taken another 10 years and the artstyle will still be all over the place.

At least updating player models would have you enjoy the update no matter where you go, but that's a bit too much for Jagex to handle.
Don't forget – RuneScape members get TWO free spins a day instead of the usual one!

Who said they have to remaster everything? They are remastering just key areas, objects, NPC and, of course, eventually our Avatar (not in 2023 though) gradually.

They are going with what the player asked for. They wanted Karamja reworked, RS3 got us a breathtaking Karamja now. No spaghetti code, just pure eye candies.

The longer they wait, the more painstakingly obvious it would be and harder to ignore, so I guess one day it will become top priority automatically...

Demand of the RS3 community, the ones who actually play RS3 and interests from new players (or in other words, market trends) will more than likely decide what fashion trend RS3 is going with on an ongoing basis.

Avatar Refresh is about modernizing our NPC models with modern features, and "modern" keeps changing with time. What was modern in 2021 or 2022 when they started looking into Avatar Refresh may be out of fashion already in 2024. So, I guess we will see Avatar Refresh in incremental updates. The whole process may take years to complete, subject to the future "modern" fashion trends.

The RS3 team told us they have better graphics project going on this year, and they will continue with Avatar Refresh next year.

Noticeably, we have City of Um, Game Gam area updates and the Overworld Refresh project, together with new models with NPCs in the making. Jagex may think the project this year has higher priority this year.

I think working on other new NPC models may actually be useful in the Avatar Refresh project too.
this is kinda how i see it. player avatars and npcs are just collections of parts. get the npcs good and then enable them for players.

Let me recall what Mod Iroh showed us in their 2021 Avatar Refresh presentation livestream. Animations and facial expressions have been presented as big parts of the project. They explicitly showed us the flexibility and moods of our new Avatar.

Although we have yet to see these things in our player, if we look closer to the chat heads of NPCs in quests and other conversations, it is not hard to see their facial expressions. When we turn our focus to the ability overrides, VFX among other new animations the last few months, we should have seen we are actually working toward the flexy avatar Mod Iroh once showed us.
