i was just recently muted on the runescape discord server because i brought this topic in the general discussion.

the entire conversation was about the recent update of the removal of forum, no fighting or disruption on the server were seen, but apparently one of the moderators did not like to continued conversation and decided to shut it down and ofc getting me muted right after.

...

and the worst part, he continues with a conversation that is not even related to the game, more of an offtopic real life thing, which is kind of odd to be honest, prioritising offtopic thing rather than the game matter.

...
Ohhhh ... this sounds familiar to me. They did that here too but eventually they left as their contributions didn't serve The RuneScape Community nor Jagex/JMods, all they did accomplish was going in circles & circles.

Yeah....

This is going to be a total clusterfluck...

Discord is so chaotic and disorganized. People get banned or muted for the smallest of things depending on if the mod had a bad day/night and, players have no recourse with Jagex to contest that.

Most of the time, it's just people talking over each other so fast you never actually learn anything or get answers to your questions.

I don't do Reddit, Twitler, or Facebook.....

This is a horrible move on Jagex's part.

Will definitely be re-evaluating my $$$ support.....

After 20 years, that's just sad.

This sucks Jagex.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that sees how moronic this decision is.

Many "original stylistic forum platforms", such as RS, are being destroyed recently. Be that as it may, today's trends clearly show that "online forums" are becoming a thing of the past.

But in this particular case, Jagex simply loses its identity in the sense of social communion. It's like a step back in all community communication and organization, relegating it to third-party programs, which by themselves have a lot of inconvenient and problems.

Instead of creating a secure and reliable new communication platform that Jagex would develop themselves, they are taking the easy way out.

If they wanted to, the least they could do is create a separate RS Facebook group, exclusively for communication. As experience shows, RS fb groups are alive and active every day. They would at least have the whole process in their hands.

I flat out refuse to use that cesspool known as Reddit. To me it screams 1984, and pure fascism. Heaven forbid that one has an opinion that differs from the sheeple there.

This is the exact reason I don't use reddit or discourse. Who controls the censors. Who's there that makes sure they aren't power hungry fascists. Or just incompetent twits.
Who controls their access to accounts Jagex and or their mods have proven in the past not to be neutral, especially when being critical of them.

RS Reddit: Reddit is a haven away from the power hungry Fmods, who are too controlling of posts! We can say whatever we want with no oversight from Jagex!

Also RS Reddit: Does the exact same thing they accuse the Fmods of doing.

I don't agree with the dogwhistly stuff about how some of the posters here use terms like censorship and fascism but OP has a point about Reddit and Discord. Getting topics shut down mid discussion due to mod bias with no rule breaking is a common problem in places with toxic moderation groups. It's not specific to Discord but it's set up in a way that facilitates it. The hectic nature of the platform makes it easy to miss a comment or two and suddenly you get punished for missing a warning that happened while you were typing or trying to keep up with the messages. Live chats aren't suited to large volumes of people trying to use it at the same time, but forcing people to stop a topic to make way for another is no solution for that either.

The only way to really mitigate this kind of problem would be for players to have access to a platform run specifically by Jagex where only the actual game conduct rules apply. As soon as you get third party platforms and non Jagex affiliated mods involved, you end up gatekeeping access to Jmods and the community behind the biases of the people running those platforms.

Whatever the forums' problems may have been in the past, I feel that a lot of the complaints non forumers make about it are out of touch and disingenuous. The forum's problems these days largely come down to neglect, including the main moderation issue in the lack of lasting consequences for recurring trolls.

On the topic of trolls, a few redditors seem to have come to the forums recently to flame and grief forumers about the forums closing down, which really emphasizes the toxic and unwelcoming aspects of the platform being taken issue with here.

I'm going to guess Jagex are going to address these common concerns the community has.

I expect them to continue with their plan to close the forums but at least address our concerns, right?

Of course....... and there goes that flying pig over the rooftops again :)

as if you could tell someone to GTFO on the runescape forums either lol.

and the dude above talking about gender identity randomly, it already screams to me that there is probably a solid reason why he might not be welcome on reddit, just saying it's a red flag.

"I'm a supporter of gender identity, using the right pronouns etc, but to define Reddit quickly... me even saying this and making a conversation out of it would be removed instantly lol."

if you've had posts removed while talking about your opinions on gender identity that's a bit yikes.

and talking about reddit using terms like fascism haha

just a sad comment here - sigh

yes reddit is bad & getting worse
a jumble of idiots with strange agendas to convince others to agree with them or get out -
they might not be so blunt, just shame you until you leave.

like bullies on the play ground - sad indeed
