Very nicely done guide!! Really enjoyed reading this thread because there's so much to tell that some people don't know anything about it. When I first started RuneScape, I thought(with my 9 year old mind) that items through the GE where generated but turns out it's actual items that players are offering lololo :D

I'm starting to wonder about the second and third of those, considering that springs for springcleaner were available to buy from the GE before the promotion began.

Although this was *presumably* activated in error, it kind of makes me wonder if anything else is bought directly from Jagex rather than other players.

Jagex does have the ability to buy/sell items the GE, but as far as I know, this is very rarely done. I have heard that they sometimes resell rares from banned accounts in the GE, but they probably only bother doing so if someone with a lot of rares gets banned.

But yes, Jagex could essentially act as the Federal Reserve or Bank of England, controlling the money supply through "open market" transactions on the GE :O
