Thanks for the great thread!
I just got scammed with what I think is a variant of the 'bait and switch' scam.
I recently bought a rune trimmed armor set for ~800k, literally all of my noobish worth. A low-level player at the GE offered to buy it for "1.1mil." I made the trade, and the player offered 1111k, a considerable wealth transfer. Suddenly the window disappeared, and the player informed me that I accidentally clicked "Decline." Feeling silly, I quickly re-did the trade without checking the details. Lo and behold, when I went to re-purchase my trimmed armor set from the Exchange, I found that I only had 111k, not even enough to buy a regular rune set. The player who scammed me ran off and his username was quickly buried in the GE spambot chatter.
Your advice about the bait-and-switch scam, checking the trade values, rushed trades, and avoiding 'too-good-to-be-true' deals would have kept me from being scammed if I had stopped to think about it. Obviously there can be no compensation for my careless mistake, but I'd appreciate it if you added this variant to your list to help others in the future.
Thank you,
Amcant
