Perhaps I should fire up HOI3 and try a world conquest as Australia.

You could try to conquer the world starting from Neutral Moresnet, a small state of 3.5 square kilometers between Belgium and Germany fromn 1816 to 1920 that formed one of the few quadripoi, nts with its borders. It was a small triangle that started with its tip at the Belgium-Dutch-German three-land pount and ran south.

That is so exceedingly obscure you could pin a tail on it and call it "obscure".

With respect to obscure history there is a guy called Mark Felton who does a series of short (10-15 min) youtub videos relating to incredibly obscure snippets of modern history. Mainly WW2 but also more recent. Here's a link to one of his vids, its about the fighting between American and Swiss ( yes, Swiss ) air units during WW2.

Cheese? Chocolate? I dont think you lot are paying adequate attention

I find those sort of obscure historical facts interesting. Like the thing with Neutral Moresnet. Probably cos I have always liked reading history and been into wargames. Did you know the Japanese actually landed soldiers in Australia as part of a small reconnaissance mission? Or that they launched a second attack on Pearl Harbor ( albeit a very small and unsuccessful one ) . Or that during the Battle of the Denmark Straits the...

Naaaaah. Swiss.
Fite me.

Anything interesting happening on the forums? I cba to read them since ...oooh... around the time of the Battle of the Denmark Straits.

We could offer 'joining bonuses' to new recruits ... a bag of (Swiss) chocolate and a Maccy D.
We'd be maxed membership in no time.

Swiss chocolate is the bestest.

But Belgian chocolate is bestesterer. Just like the fries, the waffles and the beers. We've got some nice cheeses as well.

I was deeply upset when I learned about the fate of the HMS Hood. I had grown up with the concept of British naval invincibility, Trafalgar and all that. The scene of it blowing up left an indelible psychic scar on my consciousness. Along with the physical scars on top of my head from chasing car wheels.

My brother used to make Airfix kits of planes, ships etc as a kid then re-enact battles .... setting fire to the airplanes (German ones) and dropping them off the balcony of our Council estate flat whilst waving a triumphant Spitfire in the air (yes, he was quite mad from a young age).

That film clip looks remarkably like a scene he might have set up in our bathtub .... all it needs is a stubby set of toes poking out of the water on the 'horizon'.

Maybe we could start a Clan Film Club? Lock some Clannies up in the Ciradel and film them trying to get out, then release it as as a modern take on 'Escape from Colditz'.
