How would clan members feel if I invited a few of the more upstanding members of our personal forum to join? You can find examples of their work on said forum. I don't really know how I'll choose, I guess it'll just be personal discretion... gulp. :)

I know I'm co-leader—and I think the decision to invite new members would usually fall on me or Orbie anyway—but I'd like some response rather than just being dictatorish. ^_^

Yeah Pyscho, that'd be fine. I do browse the 'other' forum sometimes, and there's a bunch of completely brilliant stuff on there :) We could sure use some new blood.

TO FEAST UPON.

*ahem*

As for the last two pages - holy crap! Just like old times :) . I don't feel I have a solid enough grasp on what we're trying to achieve to participate in the discussion, though. I'll keep reading.

I also am getting more and more serious about my Dunge expansion idea that just won't go away :@ There's really nothing to it anyway - just a name, Tower of Cercanti - but its stuck. So what would we change about Dunge, fundamentally, to make it more fun? I'm just looking for stray thoughts, impressions. I need somewhere to start.

I'd say the "Make Combat More Interactive" thread on the other forum is perhaps the best way to catch up on the last two pages. ;)

——

Invites being sent.... now! :)

We really need to find some new-new-blood. Rather than just new to us, but still old-blood... Although old-blood has been rejuvenated recently... with once past-tense members finding themselves more active. :P

——

When writing a fake April Fool's that was essentially a massive dig a Sailing (with snide remarks such as level 1: you can sail, and then we just filled the rest of the content with a minigame) I actually came to the conclusion that sailing could easily be a chapter of Dungeoneering (which would be renamed Exploration, to cover more aspects).

Seafaring allows players to explore randomly generated segments of ocean, defeating bosses, exploring caves, submerged goodies, etc.

Then there's my atlantis-themed one, which takes place in a submerged megacity-come-labyrinth whose puzzle use concentric circles and rotating the rooms in order to align a path to the centre in order to proceed.

You should post a thread on the "other" forum, as you can upload pictures. ^_^

Yeah, I'll probably make a thread on the other forum once I have an idea of where I'm headed with this.

Product of my brainstorming just now:

Dungeoneering: Basic issues

-excessive back-tracking
-difficult to group
-repetitive puzzles
-complexity
-time vs reward of making use of resources (ties in with complexity)
-limited solo tactics
-essentially mini-RS, but better balanced.

In any expansion, I would want to:

-largely eliminate the need for back-tracking
-create a solo-focused experience, with easy grouping
-limited puzzles, never involving chance
-simpler, but more focused (would not make use of every skill, but would require more intelligently using what is presented)
-would function as an addition to, not replacement of, Daemonheim. Similar to a D&D - after a week of toil in Daemonheim, you could spend maybe a day in an alternate dungeon and have a completely different experience while still training Dunge.

Would be ideal training only for a certain level range - ideally the repetitive ranges in Daemonheim where you unlock more floors of the same old theme.

Well, that's certainly a starting point :)

I never got that involved in Dungeoneering, so I can't say I've experienced backtracking or some of the other issues that arise when you get to the grinding-stage of the skill. But I fully agree if those are issues, so long as they are fixable (you've got the remember that all skills will feature grinding at some point (although I suppose it comes down to how well you can hide it)). :)

An infinitely high tower, an infinitely deep dungeon, an infinitely expansive sea and an infinitely complex maze all cover quite unique elements in terms of location, in my opinion. Just imagining the concept art to advertise the update, each has it's own unique feel to it... standing in the shadow of a tower that soars into the indifferent sky, appearing to sway in the wind; looking out over the bow of a ship to an unexplored island (this chapter of the skill would be more instance-based than puzzle based)(that banner that everyone thought was swimming pretty much comes to mind); and exploring the submerged ruins of a megacity, with fish, sharks and merfolk swimming in the corridors... that sparkling light-in-water effect that's so entrancing. :P

I don't think chance-less is possible. The point of Dungeoneering is instances/randomly generated quests/scenarios. Even if there are less choices, it will always be random to some degree. Whether it's the layout, or simply the occupants, etc. :P

Haha, I don't know if the rules have changed but we're not allowed to ask for personal information from you. Describe your age isn't a direct inquiry, thus I think it's a loophole (as players can answer "Adult", or what have you. ;)

... welcome to the team, Dragon! :P

Well, you have my vote ^_^

And, yes, I realize I have lofty aspirations :P . Haven't even got to actual puzzle and dungeon design yet. I'm working out combat at the moment.

Dunge, at level 100+, has a fairly tremendous balancing issue. Essentially Ranged is not viable when you have all the possible bindings unlocked - which is sad. In the Tower of Cercanti, I'm avoiding AAAALL the issues that come along with our aggravating rune/arrow ammo systems. Avoiding, by not including Ranged or Magic at all. In the Tower of Cercanti, you can be a Meleer, a Summoner, or a "Focuser", which is a sort of a combination of but really neither Ranged nor Mage.

And I am not designing Cercanti to be an unending Tower - rather, it is a varying height. Not concrete, but definitely has an end. While ascending, you gather 'time crystals' which are used by the defenders of the Tower to ward of their evil time-devouring enemies or something. So at the end of each Ascension there's a Skirmish scenario where you use the time crystals you gathered strategically to potentially rout your enemies and get a bucket-load of bonus exp.

That's the idea so far. And I think I have a nice solution to the back-tracking problem - centralization!

I didn't quite mean unending literally, merely how it might appear in a daunting sense of achievement to come. Obviously the dungeon has a bottom, and the tower would have a roof, etc. ;)

Would not allowing ranged and magic be met well? Could you perhaps just introduce weapons the provide unlimited ammunition? If you're going for a time-themed dunge (perhaps even steampunk? :) ) then you could have clockwork guns for ranged (which have an infinite ammo as the gun rewinds time to replenish itself), and element benders (avatar style) with weapons made out of the elements and do not use runes. :)
