i think for the first day or 2 of EoC, i would make sure i have every available combat style at my finger tips or at least use:
*2H Sword
*Spear
*Maul
*Hex/Saggi bow (longbow is for tanking/sheld abilities, shortbow is basically the 2h of the range world)
*Cele Cata Staff/Doomcore (if you have the patience for continuous runecrafting every floor)
*Plate
*Robe top
*Leather top
as a template and then adjust to your own style while leaving room for change when needed
Hexers are like grains of sand in a desert so, if you dont own one, its safe to put that at the lower end of priority in favour of slayer drops or even completing your sets with leg binds, but remember that the bows are range versions of swords of the same tier so dont ignore them (a good idea would be to bind a CCS and destroy your Surgebox for the highest tiered arrows you can craft *no t11 then wonder why GCbow wont work*, then make a bow if caught in the rare floor with no rangers)
with the Surgebox now being worn in the ammo slot *if they fix the offhand charge erasing glitch in time* 1H fighters now have the option to bind shields and still have infinite air runes on hand to provide suitable support maging. combining abilities like "Incite" and "Revenge" can increase your damage output for every hit you take, up to 100%, for short bursts of time while giving your team room to breath
with the balancing of each armour set, you will always be attacked by something so hybriding is indeed something to take note of. you will survive the same with say Plate, turmoil, and mage protect as you will with say Leather top, anguish, and melee protect so you dont have to clog your bindslots with every armour piece to combat every possible scenario, but make sure to play to your primary style otherwise you may be stuck with a few penalties.
even tho every boss is strong (or weak depending on how you see the glass) against every style (except necro), the Hex is still the best mage boss weapon because of its speed

Also, am I missing something, or did Jagex forget to include ammo in the new bind system?
Would be nice to be able to carry at least two types(say, laws and arrows), and have extras stored with the smuggler(surgebox and cosmics, for example, or even soul runes for you primary mages that like to cast curses).

No, Sereg, you didn't miss anything. Ammo is still in in the bind system and still limited to one item. Because of this, it isn't included in the smuggler's bind setup interface. You will always have the single ammo bind loaded for any setup.
There is a glitch, regarding the surge/blast boxes. While the box and charges is an ammo bind, the box is wielded in the shield position. If your setup has a bow or 2h weapon, or a staff/1h weapon with a shield, there isn't a problem. The box will go into your inventory with all charges. If for the staff/1h weapon setup, a shield item is omitted, the box is wielded in the shield position, but empty of charges.
So, until Jagex fixes this, the simple solution is to bind a shield, like a ward, to block the box from being wielded by the bind setup for staff/1h, then wield the box from your inventory with intact charges. Ofc just using 2h items is workable, too.

Yes it would be great to have a second ammo bind for curses or easy teleports but the way that it is being suggested, jagex are trying to, in the case of the mage spectrum, remove ammo for attacking altogether and use it for "something else" (my money is on using runes for staff and robe buffing in the near future).
With the addition of omnielemental staves and the deletion of catalytic runes needed for standard elemental spells, you can cast all combat spells off the bat infinitely so are a lot easier to manage than spending time at base crafting 250-500 of fire/earth/water and 1000-2000 airs if you have bound arrows.
Therefore a Bow, Arrows, and CCS (i think that may be the only permanent one atm, omni staves keep appearing and disappearing frequently) are the most effective hybriding setup leaving you to craft teleports and support spells (antipoison, alchs, entangles) upon starting. Business as usual. :)
Side note: BloodNecklace now splashes (no damage) on (or potentially heals them now i think on it) Stomp and Luminescent Icefiend when in Charge Crystal and Icecrystal phase respectively :P Have fun

Didn't the BN always work that way? I remember killing alot of stomps and icefiends with it, when I otherwise couldn't damage them. I think the only thing it didn't damage was Thunderous, before he was released.

no, it doesnt damage them at all now when you cant attack them, so you cant skip phases anymore by Bloodnecklace killing them during their invincibility phases
