Threshold abilities in the beta now drain your adrenaline bar. The beta still has a ways to go before I'm content with it, but I think this is a huge change for it. Maybe it won't be so much ability spamming now, and maybe ultimate abilities will have some use now. I felt like they were pointless before because they drained your bar, and threshold abilities didn't drain it while doing ridiculous amounts of damage.

i find this very intriguing, basically turning constant abilities back into special attacks, so to speak. this all reminds me of Thok in the saga's using his 2h to do nearly every dragon sword special attack (another instance of dg content hinting at a combat update? :P ).
the ultimates do have a sense of oooooo looky here like Tsunami but some did have their uses even bordering on the overpowered like the instakill dual crossbow spec Unload. Binding shot + Unload could potentially kill anything.
i just see this as further proof that jagex are listening to feedback and genuinely care about the playerbase's perspective on the mechanics of the EoC but then again i have been a firm supporter of the EoC since i heard about it so maybe im a tad biased :P

I need to get back on the beta again. I start, log in, look at having to figure out what to put on that bar and decide it is too annoying and time consuming so I log out and go back to regular rs. I want to gear up and go, not fiddle with putting stuff on the bar. I really hope I can get used to it. Right now, I honestly don't enjoy it at all. I just start to find the button mashing monotonous after about 15 minutes. I want to look at the game, not look at that bar constantly. I have been to all the gwd bosses and I get discouraged. On regular rs I can get kills easily, on beta, I never get a kill. It is like I have been crippled on it and have been put back to the time when I had low stats, etc. I really really want to like Eoc, but so far, it just bores me.

Why do you need to look at the bar? Doesn't it have linked hotkeys? And do you really have to set it up everytime? I would think by this point in the beta, they'd let you save bar setups and load them in a later play session.
If this is the case, then it should be as simple as loading up a preset combination and playing. In League of Legends, for example, each champion has four skills, and 6 item slots which might be able to be activated depending on which items you build.
They key maps for the item bar are 1-6, and for skills are QWER, so I have my right hand on the mouse, left hand on those keys, and eyes on the screen, and I click with the right and cycle abilities with the left.
I have no idea how the RS beta works, but if it's any kind of logical setup, you should be able to do something similar to this.

I so totally share your frustration Gene, and I couldn't agree more!
Scr*w hotkeys and action bars! >.< The relife of not having to deal with stuff like that, was what made RS so special and loveable! Now RS is just gonna become a cheap, boring copy of tons of other games on the market.. :'[

Yes, Sereg, I have all my keys set up like that, but you have to watch the bar to wait for the ability to "fill" up. Otherwise you are just key spamming. Then there is the very annoying matter of trying to move your camera view, your hand is on the keys, your other hand is on the mouse, so one or the other must come off of what they are doing to move the camera. This is extremely annoying at places like Nex when you are constantly moving. The whole thing is just very awkward to use. lol And don't get me started on trying to talk while in combat. While in combat, when you have to spam abilities, move camera view, move the mouse pointer, you have to stop, hit enter, then 2 slashes to talk in the cc, then type, which makes your ability bar sit idle. This was honestly designed by Mickey Mouse.
On the other hand I am glad they made it easier to kill things in dungeons. I had one strange problem, after switching to mage, I could not turn it off, I had to drop my runes to make my character stop maging.

Right, I forgot RS had a variable camera... I'm used to LoL's fixed view. Still, it's possible to adjust the camera with the mouse now, and while I never quite got the hang of that, it seems like it'd offer a good solution if your left hand is occupied with hotkeys.
As far as bosses go... I never actually did that. Never been to Nex, never had any plans to go, so I can't really address the need for multiple camera angles there.
Chatting would be best done while not in combat - it certainly worked for the slayer skill before, but now if you're using hotkeys in combat, it's probably something to be avoided. I know I turned off my chat whenever I did something I needed focus and/or function keys for, like the Fight Caves or the Kiln.
I also had it off for non-combat activities that weren't efficient without alot of attention, like hunter, so there's a time for chatting and a time for playing, I guess. LoL makes that especially difficult - it's rarely worthwhile to try typing to your teammates, because you will generally disadvantage yourself to a greater or lesser extent to do so. Voicechat makes it easier, for example if you're in a premade dungeoneering team, but of course isn't going to work everywhere(and yes, I know I was an opponent of voicechat for dungeoneering floors - things change =P).
And while I'm sure you're not exactly looking for all the reasons someone who doesn't play and probably won't again who has also never actually experienced the beta can provide that it's not as bad as you think, some of these things may help to a certain extent.
If not... maybe EoC just isn't for you. SoF wasn't for me, and EoC may not be ideal for alot of players... it is what it is.
