Yeah, that amulet thing today... just, wow. How much worse can Jagex make it? They've never yet failed to unpleasantly surprise me with the kind of **** they can think up to basically force spin-buying.
As far as EoC, the action bar is really kind of a cool concept. Unfortunately, it doesn't really fit in with how Runescape works. As I'm sure I've mentioned before, the game I now play has a system that is similar to what Runescape is moving to(as far as I can tell from what I've read, at least). The difference is, in that game, every situation is more or less unique. Every lane skirmish, towerdive, teamfight, and base siege is different, and even the team compositions for the games are almost entirely different, so when you're sitting there cycling your abilities and engaging your enemies, it's always different - nothing about it is dull or boring.
Runescape is not like that. Unless PvP is different(I haven't done much of it, to be fair), nothing in Runescape really lends itself to that. Everything is a grind - which is how MMOs work. Farming monsters, whether on a slayer task, at a boss, or even just training up a combat skill, doesn't really have much variety. It works for WoW because(at least from what I've heard) WoW has largescale teambased combat of a similar nature to the game I play... the closest thing RS has to that are minigames, which will probably fare better in the new system then anything else.
Dungeoneering will probably work slightly better then slayer, but honestly, after enough dungeons, even the randomness of the floors gets a bit repetitive, so the new system doesn't really hit its full potential even there.
It's a really great way of doing combat - it just doesn't fit with the way combat generally works here in Runescape.

Not going to get too involved in the Eoc Discussion, but even "hate" isn't a strong enough word for how I currently feel about it.
Sure Yelps is pretty horrible, but at least he doesn't affect my gameplay in the slightest.
Solomons Shop is ok with me as long as it stays cosmetic. The only thing stopping me from purchasing anything from it is the fact that Yelps is still around. I would support Jagex through buying cosmetics, I won't support Jagex through buying cosmetics while buyable exp / gp is available.
Will I quit if high end gear becomes available to buy? No probably not, because again that doesn't affect me in the slightest.
The only thing in the works that currently has me questioning whether I want to continue playing this game or not is the EoC, and so far it's looking fairly grim.

seriously if you don't look at is as forcing you to use abilities and more of them as assisters, it really isn't that bad, in fact i'll go as far to say that right now the EoC looks like it has been as blow out of proportion as Hp to Constitution and adding a 0 to prayer. it's really strange to see all this hate on the forums and then to go into beta expecting it to be dreadful and not experience any rage at all. i honestly don't know how to deal with it.
there are some changes that take some getting used to, like for example, some monsters that were aggressive in game aren't in beta and that the chaotic rapier is no longer some kind of slayer superweapon. there are other little details like the main demons use mage too but i have dg'd enough to consider that the norm.
i have found that with the new ability interface, you only really need to pack the actionbar when you are pvping so you can get a look at the opponent's stat effects and still have access to abilities, but otherwise, you can set the actionbar with food and pots and use it without even numberspamming. i myself tend to click my way through using the abilities (when im not sitting back with momentum active) and i treat it in a similar way to prayer selecting and flashing
also on the subject of prayer, we have spent ages saying which part of the combat triangle is overpowered when in fact the true over powered combat aspect was prayer. just by clicking a button you were immune to all damage of that type but with the combat we have now you really need it but not in beta. you dont need to rely on prayer to protect you from damage because armour is actually effective enough.
calling it an evolution seems to be a bit of a misnomer. it implies that something major has happened, like it requires full attention for everything but it doesn't. it seems that the only attention needed is in cases where you are already focused like dg and bossing except this time you get a book of special attacks but i dunno

After playing WoW for a while now, I realise that the last year's updates in RS has been to move Rs towards a game style similar to Wow's all along. I totally agree with Buff - if you want to spam 30 different abilities in combat, and go crazy with armour/weapons setups - then Wow is a good (or prolly better) alternative. (Wow is less laggy, has more detail and better gaming experience over all. The music and graphics are sometimes breathtaking)
The question is tho; why would Jagex want to go down that Wow combat style-path?? Why drown their players in cosmetic nonsence and buyable progress, while leaving the real content development behind?
I firmly belive that RS would have flourished if Jagex had stayed true to it's values, quality and it's own style. It would have attracted the world wide amount of gamers that are looking for something different; for that genuin game story, for a more inspirering, relaxed and cohesive approach.
Now RS is just becoming a lesser "wannabe-version" of any other MMORPG. And with the limping game technology and the grinding influences still attached, RS doesn't really stand a chance...

Exactly, Sun. Runescape's uniqueness was its strongest attribute, so I can't imagine why they would want to remove that.
Dmw, my situation is the reverse of yours. EoC doesn't affect how I play the game at all - as far as I'm concerned, it's just a minor change in the way I do things, like any other combat update or new spell or prayer. Now, granted, it's a much larger change and it's coming all at once, but to me, that isn't really a problem - it might even prompt me to log in to the game itself, which I've so far avoided for something like 75 days straight.
The selling of XP and gold, however, *does* affect the way I play. This game, at least for alot of players, is all about being better then the other guy - who can be the highest ranked on the high scores, who will finish the newest skill first, who has the most partyhats. Now, while I wasn't entirely on top of that, and I took my time with things, my achievements in game, like 200M defence, my red partyhat, and what was slowly approaching my max cape, were what meant the most to me about this game, or rather, what I felt proudest of when I look back on playing it. To those of you who play for friends or for the actual enjoyment of the game, that may seem rather strange, but that's how it was for me.
So seeing players who were wealthy in real life suddenly made able to buy their way to all of those achievements was extremely demoralizing for me - it kind of took away the point of the game for me. If it took me 7 years to get to where I am now, and some rich kid can buy it all in 7 months... what's the point to playing anymore? Sure, there were more efficient players then myself(one friend I knew went from tutorial island to trimmed completionist in two years), but that doesn't bother me - they're actually putting in the play time and effort that I never put in, but could have; not the money that I can't afford to put in.
And that's why the SoF hit me so much harder then it apparently did to others.

I am different from that. EOC will drive out some people, SOF/SGS others, bots will frustrate a few, but in the end none of the these will drive me to quitting for a long time.
The thing I enjoy most about this game isn't progressing my stats or gp stack. It's the ride along the way. I don't like reaching that end goal of trimmed comp/bils of cash. I like the progress you make. I like the comparing myself to a friend. I may be better than them one day. They may be better than me a few months later. It's something that says to me "I've progressed alot, but I still have alot to do in this game." or "Hey your still better than me, but I've come along ways and closed the gap considerably."
I use to build legos all the time when I was little. When I would finish a design I wouldn't care about the finished product itself. If its a model all it does is sit on a shelf. Course I would play with them when I was younger, but when I got older I just liked the act of building them. I kept doing more and more elaborate designs. It wasn't the final product I enjoyed most. It was building it that I loved. It greatly outweighted any joy I got over admiring the final product.
If all my friends quit then the journey to comp cape becomes pointless to me. It's no longer enjoyable.
