I think I remember Mod Kelpie talking about this on a Dev Q&A stream a while back.

They can look at all of the numbers and data and everything to gauge how much an update will be used and interacted with by the players. For example, revamping a current skill could be something that a group of players is vocal about, but creating a fresh new skill might be a better use of development time for something that'll get a lot more activity and play-time, and for a longer period of time.

(At least, that's how I've understood it :) )

Erehk, a big problem with looking at it that way is that we still need to interact with old content if we want to unlock things.

A current example, I'm trying to get Penance King kills for insignias - I'm finding it ridiculously difficult to find a team (it's easier to find a team to go to Yakamaru, for example) as most people have no reason to BA, and those that do either do 1-5 or 1-9.

I could just give up and admit the Penance King is near-dead content, but then I'm not able to get insignias (and if I didn't already have one kill, wouldn't be able to get a trimmed Comp cape, etc.).

Strongly disagree. What has died should stay dead.
No it shouldn't stay dead, For example when you have to do BA for trim requirements.

It's not only mini-games, but also bosses. There are tons of glitches for many bosses. For example Nex, Nex has been out for a long time, it probably has more glitches than any other boss and nothing is being done to fix it.

100% old content. Most things I loved to do in RuneScape are now "dead content". I actually get the feeling the amount of dead content is bigger than the content that's still being used.

I'm hardly motivated to log in currently. The reason is the content I once enjoyed hasn't received any TLC in ages and the new content (ex: Raptor's Challenge) is difficult to the point of just being frustrating rather than entertaining. I have no desire to partake in it.

I would love to see older content fixed as long as it's not transformed into more ridiculously difficult fights. That's just not my "cup of tea".

As things stand now, I'm not very interested in playing Runescape.

Perfect example of how Jagex uses data instead of actually knowing themselves as developers what direction will improve the game.

You can sit there ans stare at all the figures, statistics and data you want but a real games developer knows, you think when Gowers made this game they were checking out data or they were creating a game they thought would be good?

Its a perfect example of what happens when business people take control of a game, they dont know what they are doing so they have no choice to rely on data and feedback regardless of how well it is interpreted or not.

We as clan leaders get the same response in here, data and figures are always more important than or experiences. Cool-down is good because the computer says so.

Invention i can only imagine was halted and revamped because some guy in a suit said all the kids these days like steam punk so lets jump on that bandwagon.

I'm sure quite a mixture of factors goes into the decisions about updates and new game content. All I meant to suggest is that, for example, an idea we hear "trending" among players might not always be the best choice for an update (and that's where data and the developers' know-how helps to decide what to do, I imagine).

Of course, I'm no game developer and I can't speak for how things work behind the scenes, but I'm confident that updates aren't decided upon solely based on data and statistics. :)
