Don't shy away from conflict. I always encourage my clanmembers to come to me or a rank if they have an issue with another player in the clan, and I get everybody in a friend's chat to bury the hatchet so to speak. Unresolved conflict fosters an unhealthy clan atmosphere.

Be the first to protect the interests of the clan! This could mean taking up war against other clans but never let people walk over you. As owner of my clan I listen to my fellow deputy leaders. Although me and my girlfriend make the final decisions.

We also specialize in certain things. Therefore much easier to run the clan without arguments. Also never shy from a debate. Debates are good and important to make the best idea the winning idea

I feel that a leader is there to ensure that all members of the clan are happy and content and are having fun playing the game not just themselves.

Sure and if that's not happening you should probably find another clan or lead one yourself. ;)

If you are using the clan and its members to make your game more enjoyable at their expense then sorry but I cannot agree with that sort of leadership.

I treat all members as leaders by holding them to the same standards I hold for myself.

I strongly disagree.

I'm a big supporter of servant leadership, but I also believe if your team is unwilling to support you, then you either built the wrong team, or you built it the wrong way. It is not about taking advantage of people, but rather; mutually supporting each other for a certain cause.

This. A good leader can accomplish much, but a culture of leadership can accomplish much more.

One thing is for certain, the forth coming removal of the clan cooldown period will have a dramatic effect on clan dynamics.

Those clans who strike the right balance of leadership and loyalty will have a huge advantage over those who have failed to achieve that balance.

And when it happens we shall gladly feast upon their flesh.

Well Archaeox gets it.

If you are there for the clan and ensure that all members are happy and enjoy being in the clan then they will bend over backwards to help you move the clan forward. But if you treat the clan as your ego boost or for your own needs then they probably will behave the same way and the clan will get no where. In my opinion.

In my clan I am just the one who took the piece of paper, and while there are some decisions I make solo because I believe it is the best thing for the clan, I do encourage every member, even new recruits to have their say and we have equal votes on any big decision.

And be assured, if I do make a decision the clannies are not happy with, they will speak their mind and that is how it should be. The leaders in our clan encourage all members to speak up and be heard and to join in with any discussion involving major changes to the clan.

That means if you are there for the clan members, then the clan members are there for you, too =P . You are saying the same thing as we are, but I think you are a bit too fixated on showing how the Leader must be willing and practicing helpfulness towards other clan members (which is definitely a great and honorable thing, and how a leader should conduct), but my advice is not to let that overshadow the space of contribution of the other members, whom as myself and Pescao6 have expressed, to not be any less than the leader's (or at least close to), as it is much less effective if the leader does too much, and the rest does too little. The leader will end up burnt out, and may snap later and do irrational decisions, that could have been avoided if the degree of contribution was more balanced.

And to be clear, I'm referring to your first post on this thread, which IMO, could have been worded differently.

Never forget that you are there to serve the clan - not the other way around.

also remember that even a leader should enjoy the clan if it is to be successful. Which doesn't mean constant behind the scenes work but joining in, sharing a bit of banter and of course not overworking your self

Yes maybe I could have worded it better but it was meant as a tip, nothing more. I guess I am just sick of reading about clan leaders going inactive and the responses along the lines of 'it's their clan, they have the right to do what they like with it, just make a new clan'. That uncaring, better than thou, because I am a leader attitude just gets my goat.

EDIT: and i am definitely not saying the same thing as you. My clannies are equals in my eyes not servants.
