I decided to create this thread so people can share their leadership tips and advice. Please share!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mine is going to focus on emails/text communication

So I had recently attended a leadership conference and I attended a session where the speaker discussed emails, and other communication via text. I would like to share some things with you, since I find that it can be useful to everyone.

One thing she spoke of was a signature (mostly referring to emails but can be applied anywhere) So, I will use some of my old positions IRL as examples:

I was...
-Diversity Coordinator Of RSA
-Social Chair of SAE
-Hall Council President of Harshman

So, the only time to present yourself in a position of power is when you are speaking on behalf of that position. I would not use my social chair position in my signature if I was messaging on behalf of the RSA. The reason is because I am not representing my fraternity in that situation. Only use the position you are representing, or speaking as.

IE

I am sending an email to my Exec Board of Hall Council, so in my email I would not put this as my sig:

Michael K,
-Hall Council President
-Diversity Coordinator Of RSA
-Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Social Chair
-Owner Of The Seventh Regiment
-Level 99 noob

Its excessive

Another
thing
she
discussed
was
color
and
font
of
your
text.

When speaking in a professional situation making something "pretty" or similar to a coloring book takes away from your point, and makes you seem not serious about what you are saying, not only that, it can be hard to read as well. People often have to strain their eyes to read the colored text. Always stick to plain colored, and normal type.

This reminds me of something my clan leader does on the fansites he runs. Whenever he leaves someone a message, he uses the normal signature system, but then he adds "admin" in boldfacing after his username so people know he's an admin and is speaking on behalf of that position of power.

My two rules I follow;

Lead with a iron fist, but a open heart. I remind myself of that, to make the tough calls, follow the clan rules, but listen understand and help people. People will say this is pretty me, the rules are always important, but at times someone is going through something and while they break the rules understanding why is of great importance.

The other thing I say to people in the clan - my rank makes me no different this clan isn't about me, its about us the people as I like to consider it a family around the world.

Think.
Take advice.
Think again.

Can't say it any better than that. Obviously sometimes you might need to react quickly, but it can be suprising just how often your stance changes after spending a little longer thinking things through again.

You are there for the clan, the clan is not there for you.

Lol I kinda have an opposite view...
The clan is only useful if it helps you enjoy the game more.
Try to spend more time playing with Clanmates rather than working on Clan stuff.
