We've had countless members targeted by this scam, and had some lose upwards of 100M. This honestly has nothing to do with trust trading and the risks that come along with that. Obviously, they were prepared to lose whatever money was transferred should the friend not pay them back or if it was a gift. What they weren't prepared for, was to be deceived by a font into thinking that the person they were trading was a friend, when it was not.

And that falls partially on the shoulders of Jagex for using a font that can so easily manipulated. This needs to fixed; it's such a stupid issue to be had when the only thing that needs changed is a font.

Maybe to some extent as being smart about your own possessions should be part of the game, if youve willingly handed over your stuff to someone then i consider that to be you losing at the game, in the same way bluffing is part of poker.

But my mentality on it is different because I played this game in an era when it wasnt dominated by soccer moms and bubble wrapped children fresh from playing candy crush.

Quite frankly being scammed isnt the end of the world, you suck it up get back on your horse and you learn from it.

I just dont care if scammers go unpunished or not, theres more important problems to be fixed and looked at.

A simple font change will help in this situation though.

If I had my way I would have all the arrogant 'I am better than you ' players who deride honest players who have as much right to play this game as you as "soccer moms" banned . Personal opinion but I am sick of the derision and the sneering look down the nose everytime wwe are not as good as you or in this case want the game to be an honest & pleasant place to enjoy ourselves.

But back to the point - we report in game & nothing happens ( maybe because the reporting in game is not good enough), we report elsewhere and it is ignored.

No i dont think people should be going into a community and game and demanding rapid changes into how the game is played, like i said in the early years all this was just part of the game play and you learned from it thus becoming a smarter player.

It would be like going into a poker tournament and demanding that no one is allowed to bluff because its not fair and wanting anyone who bluffs banned. Weve had a similar problem in this game with people complaining that its not fair they get killed in the wilderness. So we get the soccer mom petitions to remove wilderness so everyone can play nicely.

After all it is just a game.

Lol I think it would be fine if Jagex simply admitted they're bad at dealing with Scammers just like Twitter is bad at dealing with Trolls. We very much rather have free trade with Scammers than not have free trade at all.

But going back to the topic of fonts,
I do personally support changing the font used by this game.
Not just because of Scammers, but also because right now the easiest way to find out how to spell someone's name is to copy it from their Clan Chat Website. And it's too much of a hassle to have to examine someone to find out on what Clan they are just to find out how to spell their name. :P

How do you tell a difference between a genuine loan and a scammer? How can Jagex tell if here was an actual deception and a scam being practiced? There are a bunch of issues we need to consider carefully and are not easy to moderate fairly. We are examining it carefully.
