The Rank Dinner Mystery

Thread v94 had a post asking to solve a mystery. I, Canada Grrl, was having a dinner party. See if you can solve it! Don't forget to use the spoiler button when you post!

I have invited 17 other ranks and told them they are allowed to choose where they want to sit at the table. A Random Rank has asked them all to send me cryptic answers for their choices and I just can’t figure out where they want to sit. Can you help me?

There are 18 ranks all wanting a specific seat at the table. There is only 1 possible order of seats and ALL will fit.

Here are some clues to help you:

Canada grrl:
-I sit west, with Random Rank across from me
-I want one star (any) and one single banana next to me and the same for Random Rank
-I want some generals in the middle of the table
-I want that there are never 2 of the same ranks next to each other (across the table isn’t seen as ‘next to’)
-I want that every rank is happy with their place. They’re happy when all their wishes have been fulfilled

How to solve it?

It was best to take a piece of paper, in landscape and then draw the table, like what was given in the challenge.

At every ‘x’, you put all the ranks names, except Cg and Random Rank. As you know already at the very beginning their exact locations (Cg far west, at the left side of the table and Random Rank far east, at the right side of the table).

Then look at which ranks had an obvious seat.
(Elipile, Topaz Nails and Woofumz were the easiest to start with, as Topaz Nails has to sit next to Elipile and closer to Cg then to RR and Elipile wants to sit closer to RR than to Cg and both have to sit north, so that means that at the northern side, seat 4 is for Topaz Nails and seat 5 for Elipile. Then Eli says that a General has to sit in front of her and only Woofumz is left as a General).

You continue to do this for all clues.

‘Why is ‘XvinDialDoor’ sitting next to Armcie?’
XvinDialDoor is an anagram for ‘VoidLordXian’.

‘*whispers* Hey, you’re twice as good as me’
As Slaine whispers this, he has to be speaking to the person next to him… And twice as good = double banana, as Slaine is single banana.

‘Beside me, some cucumbers are truly tasty, yes?’
Woofumz meant that, next to her (beside her), there is a seat for Scatty. How's that? Well take the first letters of each word (except for beside and me).

All the clues of the food:
They all indicated some things: when person A asks to pass something to person B then that means that that person B doesn’t sit next to person A, otherwise he wouldn’t ask to pass it but just give it to person B.

If you did all the clues, and they suddenly all fit, then you should have the answer.

I asked the hunters to tell us how you would know if you were a penguin addict in 2012 and we added to it over the years. It went as far as #126.

You might be a penguin addict if....

1. When you can't find something, your first thought is to check inside the wall.
2. You've been detained at the zoo for demanding a reward from the polar bears.
3. Go look for special traps after a graphical update
4. Try to move a penguin to a trap outside World60 when you are supposed to be doing something else
5. Imagine a penguin moving around following WESN when you are shopping in a Supermarket
6. As you walk into a friend’s house, you look to see where the special traps are
7. You train your dog to herd like a toothy
8. You change your name to Yanille Wall
9. You reset your block after being walked on in the grand exchange
10. You automatically follow anyone wearing a fez (canada grrl)
11. You try to spy the bushes in lumbridge castle courtyard
12. You know which crate in the sawmill is spyable
13. You know what quick chat code efdp2 does
14. You carry a ring of stone with you at all times
15. You’ve ever visited dragontooth isle

Some very smart ranks used to post ChAoS pEnGuIn HiNtS each week so we could guess what penguins would be coming. Here is a sample from v85 and 94. Try and guess them!

* Moo! No! Muh! Not here! Meuh! North of here!

It is the island north of Neitiznot. Moo, Muh, and Meuh are the three variations of Moo said on the English, German, and French Runescape servers respectively.

* This sour rock is deadly, I want the other one!

It is Elf Limestone mine. Sour rock = limestone. There are two limestone mines, one by the Weird Old Man, who collects bones and hides (referring to dead creatures), and the Elf mine.

* Abberant, this sacred river is. Swampy, it is not.

It is the Kharidian Desert duo, Smokey Well and North of Nardah. The clue explicitly says NOT in a swampy area. The sacred river is the River Elid, found spiritual in the Spirits of the Elid quest. Abberant refers to the Aberrant Spectres, which are found in the well under Pollinivneach.

* It’s fishy, thrusty, and rusty!

It is Port Khazard. Fishy refers to the fishing trawler, and thrusty and rusty refer to the swords given to the Tindel Merchant in the Port.

* How strange: why is the wise gnome far away from his brothers fighting the unwise humanoids?

It is Wizard Tower and Ape Atoll. The wise gnome is Professor Onglewip, a wise gnome who studies at the Wizard Tower, which is far away from other gnomes. The other gnomes referred to are fighting monkeys/ humanoids, during the Monkey Madness quest.

* The clothing itself is colorful, but why is everything else brown here?

It is Relleka. The colorful clothing refers to the stock of Yrsa’s Assortments, a clothing shop in Relleka. Relleka is a settlement with all brown furnishings. :

ChAoS pEnGuIn HiNtS - v85 - Revealed!

It is Jatizso and Neitiznot. The clue is an allusion to the song "Norse Code," where the length of the notes were Morse code for "R-U-N-E-S-C-A-P-E." You unlock this song with the Fremmenik Isles quest, which unlocks Jatizo and Neitiznot.

* "I need sleep, hand me a mattress" -T

It is Port Khazard. The clue is a reference to the One Small Favour quest, where Tinsel the merchant asks you to stuff his mattress.

* Red balloons go BOOM! Tunnel collapsing!

It is Ape Atoll. The red balloons are reference to people wishing to train range by using red chinchompas on skeleton monkeys in the Ape Atoll dungeon, where the tunnel collapses periodically.

* *cough* Partial to Warmth! *cough*

It is a Desert duo. Partial to warmth is the examine text of the Desert lizard (spawn #1), while the coughing is an allusion to the Smokey Well west of Pollivineach (spawn #2).

* Human, now a big fat creature. 8-legged? Immaterial. It's all black and demonic.

It is high-Wildy. The clue refers to the Mage Arena minigame owner Kolodion, where when you fight him, he begins as a man, then transforms into a Jogre, an ice spider, a ghost, and finally a black demon.

* According to history books, odd foods don't exist anymore.

It is Gnome Stronghold. Before an update in 2006, while doing the Gnome Restaurant minigame, if you did not cook the food correctly, you would end up with "odd" cuisine.

* I went upstairs just 5 minutes ago and there wasn't a whatsathingamagiggycalled.

It is Wizard Tower. This refers to a postbag letter from the wizard Traiborn, who resides in Wizard Tower.
