It encourages people to play in larger groups, which promotes sociability as there are common goals and mutual gains from joint actions.

There would be a large playerbase cross section, with a natural, continuous spread of skill level, and all with the potential to enjoy the minigame, and be rewarded for it - just as importantly, they can actually get into playing games, whenever they wish, and any sabotagers or afkers have a much reduced impact, and no reason to be doing such things, anyway.



Defence would be reduced, as a role (perhaps there could be defence, oriented versions), but there's more than enough bred** for play, without it.. and it'd still be there if wanted.

The Acantha and Vief lore would have to be explained by Elriss/some other Wiz deciding that reward should be given equally (defence games, and duelling and such, could be linked to Acantha and Vief funding their own illicit side-schemes in order to continue their aims). This would mean no major changes are needed - nothing beyond political spin/focus on the situation).


Competition wouldn't be directly enforced in everyday play.. it would still be evident, in the scores (and could even have a small effect in the form of a bonus.. but nothing more than 5%, at most, so it doesn't give rise to game-fixing; even that isn't necessary), but this, even if it lead nowhere, would be well worth losing, for the benifit to the content and it's users.

Positively it will do more... as what it will do, is (greatly) encrease the pool of players who are skilled in playing the game, and therefore also in those who can enjoy it - making the number who would be willing and able to participate in any community (or JAGEX' CM team) run tournaments and competitions, not only viable.. but potentially vast, and diverse (allowing for more skill leagues, and style-based tournaments). So it will actually have a positive impact on competition in Gop..

The gap between what you get when new, and when skilled, would be greatly reduced, while actually being more rewarding for effort and skill, and being fairer for newcomers, as well as losing a negative behavioural rewards that occurr in the present system.



All in all, it would be enormously more positive than the current systsem, and support all users of the content. Nearly all potetial negatives are turned around to have positive effects:


Boosters can still boost... but they support play by doing so.
Competition may not be enforced in all play... but more people will be able to compete when they wish.
Afkers can't gain fast reward... but that better reflects the content, and they can still play in a relaxed manner and be rewarded; what's more, most of the reasons to afk will be gone, with no enforeced negative experiences for newcomers, and anyone who does afk, has had their negative impacts on other players reduced (and their ability to entirely ruin the game for other players, reduced).




The only people who could complain, are those trying to avoid the content entirely.. but not only do they have reduced reason to want to avoid it, but they also can do the sensible thing, and just avoid going there (that should be enough.. but they even have the thaler shop, now.. so their only reason to go to Gop to afk, now, will be to be disruptive.. which will stand out and be more easiliy dealt with).



This would be best paired with a complimentary set of rewards, which can be unlocked at various target scores (giving an end-goal for all the skill and exploration, other than efficiency (which loses out, once you have all rewards), and competition (which can be subject to other player availability), and don't have to take up resources, if they just involve progressive colour unlocks, for current rewards (to give a community cohesion, for those who enjoy the content, distinguished from those who get the reward elsewhere).

This'll take a while to read. I'll quickly reply to each thing:

- Will make more important updates pretty in pink
- I'll add links if there is enough space
- The hunter/hunted stats are tricky to solve: I'll leave it at this for now and if JMods look at the code, they'll figure out the best solution
- RC gloves cost less than 100 tokens; seems fine. If they add blood gloves, they'd be more expensive, I reckon.
- Player options; I'll change to left-click
- I'll just link the rest. :P

- Barriers: I do. Currently, barriers are useless, because they block ALL orbs. They can be used much more strategically if they only block the opponents'.
- Can do that, but essence is also sold in the reward shop and Sedridor's chest has a ****load of the stuff. :/
- The staves used to be much more valuable than they are now. But what the hell, I'll remove it.
- Bonus xp was just a random, arbitrary number. I'll just remove it as it'll be Timbo doing that anyway.
- There is an activity bar; it could deplete quicker to completely ban afk'ing.
- Good idea (1v1)!

- As for the essence, you and pick it up and stuff, but, for instance, I personally would like to save up all my essence for the nature altar. Now I'm forced to use it prematurely at e.g. water and body. :(

@Jynx:
- Yeah, I had to think about the CW activity bar for a while. It definitely wouldn't work at Fist of Guthix, but at Castle Wars, if it doesn't go down too fast, it should be possible. With enough players, there is plenty of opportunity to attack; with less players, you can always play with the underground cave-ins or catapults. It's not an ideal solution, but, looking at all the afk'ing...

Yeah. I either get a maxed killing machine, an afk'er or - very rarely - a proper opponent.
