Positives first: training the combat with low/medium level monsters is a joy. Rituals don't bother me as much as others have commented, although keeping up on one's stock of inks is quite the task!
Now for the major negative, and it is a dealbreaker for me:
I'm not happy that the equipment is locked behind quests and bossing (and, on reading through this entire thread, it appears I am far from alone in this regard!). I feel excluded as I am not a PVM enthusiast and I find the Kili requirements unnecessarily restrictive. Having to do a quest requiring 3000 souls and a boss kill just for T70? I would understand that for T90, but that is not acceptable for 70. Also you can't even wear the items if you buy them unless you've gone through the process to do the quest and make them.
I understand that you are supposed to enjoy necromancy as a journey, but it needs to be more inclusive to players of other play styles, such as those who don't enjoy PVM or questing as much as others do.
This skill is out of balance with other RuneScape skills; it feels unnecessarily burdensome due to the unreasonable requirements.
That said, I think I will be taking a nice long break from this game, as my disappointment in the Necromancy requirements has put me off for a bit.
Happiness has no queues.
