IMO gathering souls is the excessive part. IF you take that out of the equation, the rest is actually nice. Multipliers are a big part of it, so gaining levels in combat first seems like a better idea.
I'm trying to think of how this all will play out in the future with bonus XP, double xp and all of that. The levels themselves are mostly meaningless.
It's pretty obvious the soul gathering is an important part, to limit progress. I'm thinking there should be an option there, maybe cut the gathering in half and then we get another urn to store souls in.
But they are random(ish) drops from monsters. I know they want to reduce the RNG with this system, but friendly RNG is always welcome.
