Suggestions for the Dragon Slayer quest to play more smoothly and be more rewarding:

Gameplay
-Remove the plot hole of Ned and the Lady Lumbridge (ship) returning to Port Sarim if the player dies on Crandor:
* Speaking to Ned in Port Sarim again after reaching Crandor would prompt the player to continue from the last checkpoint. Choosing "continue" would place the player as they had first arrived on Crandor, skipping the cutscene

Rewards
-New item, the Champions’ Cape, awarded upon quest completion
* Similar to the cape of legends, the Champions’ Cape would provide combat strength and armour bonuses as well as unlimited teleports to the Champions' Guild
* The cape would replace the rune platebody as the quest’s main reward and plot device
* Credits to Jack Flac for coming up with the idea and Rikornak for further developing the concept
-Crandor unlocked as a new teleport destination for the traveller's necklace
* During the quest, the player would find a necklace on Crandor which belonged to Lozar or Thalzar. This would add depth and narrative justification for the unlock
-Post-quest gameplay unlocking new/hidden features and parts of the island (see post 15 ). These would include:
* Furnace, forge, and anvil
* Drakolith and luminite rocks
* Silver and common gem rocks
* More moss giants
* Green dragons
* Bank chest

The above additions would fit both the lore of the quest and its target level range. Appropriate benefits for combat training and skilling would make Crandor a worthy place for adventurers to visit.

Thanks for reading.

Comments:

Transportation
-The traveller's necklace's new teleport to Crandor would complement the additional content by allowing players to return to the island more quickly
* The required materials are F2P but not the ability to craft or use the necklace. My suggestions presume that the traveller's necklace and other silver jewellery will be made F2P

Resources
-Silver and common gem rocks are required to craft the traveller's necklace
* Precious minerals would fit fairly well with the area's history as a wealthy city-state who grew rich from trade
-Crandor currently has runite rocks as a nod to the quest’s historical reward. I proposed adding luminite because it's the complement to runite
* I had also included adamantite before deciding that it wasn't necessary
* Thematically, runite and drakolith would fit the area best
-Following the Woodcutting rework, I originally proposed Crandor as a location for F2P teak trees. However, I think these should be added to non-quest locations, as they are a core resource and only T30
* Musa Point and the south Asgarnian peninsula would work well, as both have a tropical climate

Monsters
-There are not currently enough moss giants (3) on Crandor to make fighting them worthwhile
-To avoid overcrowding, more giants could be added in a separate subterranean cave outside the volcano
* For the same reason, the proposed Smithing facilities, additional Mining rocks, and green dragons could also be placed below ground (see post 15 )

I think in general the DS quest needs some kind of clean up - for that matter I do not fully know if the transcript on the wiki just was never updated, but if it still the current ingame text, the motivation to do this quest in the first place would be still the right to wear a rune platebody (and some other body counterparts albeit that never was mentioned in the quest) - which obviously isn't a thing anymore for several years now. Probably not the only thing off. Improvements: Tooltip / (F2P) QoL v2
Quick Fixes: Invention

I wanted to get these thoughts out before reading the transcript:

The premise of needing to slay Elvarg is inherently dubious because she poses no threat to humans anymore. Learning about the history and unlocking access to Crandor is significant obviously, but actually killing her is morally questionable. At the time the quest takes place, she has lived by herself on her island and enjoyed the peace and quiet for some decades. Invading someone's home and killing the person kind of takes the heroic aspect out of the quest.

I have an idea for a minor rewrite of part of the story. Oziach is full of himself as I remember, which could be played up more. He also appears to have something of a monopoly on the rune armour trade, at least in Misthalin. In short, my alternative plot involves Oziach brazenly manipulating the player by proxy of the Guildmaster, in order to add a trophy to his collection. When he carelessly lets this slip to the player upon the latter's return with Elvarg's head, the player responds angrily. Oziach, a spineless coward, then offers the player a free rune platebody in exchange for his life.

Sounds like a good idea - I like the alternative motive story for the quest that you added in as well :-) Things may be looking down now, but I see a light at the end of the tunnel;
Do you think I should get off the tracks?

I fully agree on need post gameplay for the quest. The dragon slayer is one of the most important quest in free player. It deserves to have post game unlock additions, not just unlocking tier 50 body armor.

Green Dragon make sense since the quest boss is a dragon. This would make
anti dragonfire shield
be useful for outside of only going to wild.

All those additions make sense since Crandor is an island. However, for anvil, furnace and forge to make metal equipment. Since there is no bank, what do propose just teleporting back and forth.

I do have a wishful thinking but not necessary. It would be cool to unlock a new unique harder boss than dragon slayer quest boss that only resides in Crandor or underground passage. However, having a new boss needs something to entice player. But this is just wishful thinking.

I read a suggestion in another thread to add a bank deposit box to Crandor as a post-quest unlock. I now think a full-on bank chest would be appropriate. If there are going to be players fighting green dragons on Crandor, they'll need to be able to restock supplies efficiently. That would also help with training Smithing or other skills.

I'm glad you agree. Dragon Slayer always felt like the finale of F2P to me. It's still probably the most difficult F2P quest in terms of length and combat.

There is a sequel to Dragon Slayer in OSRS with a harder boss, but I've never played so don't know much about it.

One of the reasons I suggested adding green dragons is to fill the void left by Elvarg. It really does feel like you should be able to return to Crandor and fight dragons.
