Isn't it better just to get a permanent Tackle Box?

We also have Grace of the Elves and signs of the porters to do a similar and more convenient trick too.

We also have fishing urns if we want more xp but no fish.

That's why I'm saying it's probably obsolete in RS3 already since Jagex already implemented other mechanics that gave construction an opportunity to be valid.

There's a lot of instances as well where crafting has stolen potential content from construction, such as pyre ships.

It only shows Construction is obsolete rather, as Jmods keep finding much better skills and activities to put their best ideas into.

IMO, either they totally ignore a Construction rework, or they will need to find really good new ways to implement it outside the POH, for instance, community construction like how we build the Varrock barge and the Christmas Cracker.

The usefulness or obsolescence of most skills rely on how Jagex wants to balance it, and Jagex has opted to make it useless when they had plenty of opportunities not to.

Any basic concept of a mechanic could be implemented across a number of different skills, jagex just needs to decide which skill or skills that will be, and they never choose construction.

By design, The Gowers made construction only as a gp sink so it had never really been a "skill".

Subject: Construction rework

When will we have a house viewer and be able to move rooms without losing their contents like in OSRS?

When you start the construction skill, it's very hard to plan ahead and you end up having to pay to rebuild.

Also, find some way to gain XP without having to remove and rebuild a hotspot that doesn't cost a fortune. Went from level 67 to 75 doing this (for Plague's End) and almost ended up with carpal syndrome! And it cost me around 4,000,000 gp to boot.

It's high time for a rework of this skill.

Construction is supposed to be a gp sink and 4 mil gp is really nothing since you can get it back in hours with gp making skills. I believe going forward, Jagex won't remove this gp sink.

We already have plenty of ways to gain construction xp ouside of POH. You can always save bonus xp from other skills and convert it to construction with the help of Vic/Nic too.

Regarding OSRS way of handling POH, RS3 doesn't need to do the same for various reasons. For instance, as I mentioned, keeping construction as a gp sink is one very useful consideration, so it is not a bad idea for us to remove and rebuild a few rooms and spend a few gp in RS3.

Besides, OSRS is considering moving POH features outside POH following the RS3 footsteps. For instance, Poll 72 calls for:

"We’d like to give players the option to make Teleport tablets (in the Pyramid and Luna Isle but not the POH) for both the Ancient and Lunar spellbooks. Of course, the creation and use of such tablets would be locked behind their respective quests."

Obviously, even OSRS may think it is actually a better idea to take construction features from POH to the open world following RS3's lead. This is yet another reason why RS3 should continue their lead to make construction features outside the POH.

It is sad that this thread is almost 10 years old and nothing has changed. Maybe one day...

Do you realize they just added Portable Workbench today? It is a major step in the right direction to take the Construction skill outside PoH. :)

Oh dang, I didn't realize just how old this thread was. Wow.

We definitely could use an overhaul, especially with POH. It'd be nice to give them a revamp, maybe make them a little bit bigger, and a nice new look.

New features are always nice too.

I just kinda hope they don't overhaul it like they did with mining, I mean it's not necessarily a bad thing, but it'd be nice to make sure it still functions with older content.
Arrr! Only th' Devil an' I know th' where'bouts o' me treasure, an' th' one o' us who lives th' longes' should take i' all.

Devs just announced a new Construction training method coming up soon (probably after October though). It is said to be along the style and size of Safecracking, so I'll assume it is construction training OUTSIDE the POH.

Looking forward to the rework. Does anyone know if RS3 is getting something similar to the Mahogany Homes update on OSRS?

It is said to be comparable to the style and size of Safecracking, so I'll think the RS3 constrcution update is a more systematic update with rewards and progression than Mahogony Homes which is just a contract type alternative way of training construction.

I won't rule out the RS3 construction update also has some forms of contracts involved like OSRS, but I'll be surprised if the RS3 update is just a give-an-one-off-construction-xp-per-contract one. RS3 updates typically comes with a persistent progression system in mind.
