I am opposed to the idea of merging the threads. Perhaps I am biased and old fashioned due to being part of the ASCII community since 2006, but I do not believe that ASCII logos and signatures are unanimous to one another. They are completely different. And I don't like change.

However, I would support the notion to having links on the BD# to relevant threads, such as guides, galleries and schools.

There are already some links on the thread though. LH7 has graciously edited one of her posts on the front page to link to several drawings and a gallery.

So the general consensus seems that a merge is not the right course of action?

It's also true that Long has a post on the first page with a few links.

So now the two questions are:

1. Do we want a new BD#

2. If we want a new BD#, what would we want changed?
———> Bulletin Board type thing (news about the community/thread links/etc)
———> How long should the guide be? Shorter? Longer? The same?
——————> Perhaps a one post "crash course", followed by something more in depth?
———> Icey's idea of a history of ASCII. I've always liked this idea, but I'm not so sure it has a place on the BD#.(r)
------> Logo request form? - now that the clan logos thread is no longer existant

Thoughts?

I think that it could work well as a nice consolidation post. :)

I'm glad to see that things are in motion! Personally I'd love to see a new BD# thread with a dash of colour maybe? :P I'd love to see you host a new thread Nop. We'll see what everyone else has to say about the two questions you've raised :)

I do want a new BD# just to have someone active to own it and update it. But at the price of losing what's in it? I don't know.

If we keep the current one, I'd be happy to change up my post on the front page to include more relevant links. It's just so far down the page, it's not an ideal place for them.

The only reason the original BD# guide was created and put up there was that the reply box looked so different from the posted message, new people had been messing up left and right. The guide was just to help people get their drawings to come out right. That's not really necessary anymore since the reply box almost exactly matches the posted message. A very brief crash course might be more appropriate now - just a couple things like "This is unaligned drawing, here are the suggested characters" and "This is aligned drawing, here are the suggested characters", and a small example of each. A thread with an up to date guide, maybe including information about signatures, can be made and linked to. Anyone who's not interested in learning at that level wouldn't feel like they have to.

If we make a new BD#, I think it should more actively encourage novices. It could be as simple as saying "Whether this is your first time in here or you've been drawing ascii for years, come in and create something!"

I like the idea of having the history of ascii written down somewhere. Also, having a more colorful and welcoming opening page does sound nice. :P

That's if we go ahead and do this, of course. Like I said, I don't know if losing what's in it would be worth it.

It might be worth mentioning that currently it takes well over a year for threads to fall to Chewy. When the current BD# was made, I at first lamented the loss of the previous version, but now I rarely even think of it. It's nice knowing that you can go back and look at all those historic posts that bring nostalgia, but in reality I rarely actually do go back and look. Idk :P

If this happens the first page could maybe look like this:

Post 1: Intro/ToC + Bulletin + Thread links
2: Quick crash course + links to Guide to Signature Making Sticky, and schools¹
3: Logo request form
4: A short ASCII history? - maybe we could do a longer one, but not put it on page 1?
5-10: Begin chatting :P

¹ of course, this would require me actually updating the sig and logo schools to the new font… and I would need help with teaching :P although getting this situation sorted out takes precedence

I don't feel as attached to this version as I did the last. I just don't like to get rid of things. :P I'd be up for a new one though, if the others agree.

That sounds good to me. My vote is for a longer history of ascii, but have it somewhere else just to keep things on the first page short.

I really don't like the idea of getting rid of the old thread. If anyone was to remake the thread though I think Nop should. I will say the logo request seems really misplaced for a thread like this.

Anyways, if you do go ahead and remake it, we lose all these drawings that have happened over the past 2 years. Considering there's no serious problems with the current thread aside from a few alignment issues, I really don't think it's worth losing all of that artwork.

I'm curious as to why you think it seems misplaced? I don't think we're active enough to create an actual company and keep up with all the requests. This would just be a sort of informal request in case anyone feels like drawing something for someone. I've drawn probably around a dozen or more logos for people who requested it on the BD#. I would put a note below the request form saying that there is no guarantee that anyone will do it.

In regard to your second concern. I don't really know anyone who doesn't save their drawings in a notepad file or in a separate gallery thread. I think all we would be losing would be a few conversations/fond memories. Additionally, usually when a new BD# is created, a few artists will come back to repost some of their drawings.
