Background
I was first exposed to ASCII art when my brother commissioned a forumer, Notl3y989, to create a cross for him which he wanted to use in a school project. At the time I had not started playing Runescape myself, but I have always been very interested in art and was therefore very impressed.
I began playing Runescape in 2005, and even though I was not a member, the aforementioned incident introduced me to the forums and I spent many hours sifting through the Bored? Draw #ere! in order to marvel at the works of artists such as Notl3y. It was during this time that I started to experiment with ASCII privately by trying to drawing in a Word document. However, since I was not a member, I was unable to post them on the forums and see if they were of any success.
By 2006 I had eventually gained membership and therefore the freedom to post on the forums. I tried making some measly drawings on the BD#, but they were never very successful and I never imagined I would be of the same caliber as the artists that I saw posting on the BD#.
I eventually created a Goals & Achievement thread to keep a log of my goal of 99 Woodcutting. I applied for a logo to be made at an old logo company, but after waiting weeks and not receiving anything, I took matters into my own hands and created my first successful logo.
I completed my goal of 99 woodcutting by chopping magic trees from level 85 to 99. This was a long and tedious method, but it gave me plenty opportunities to afk and experiment with ASCII. Needless to say, once I had finally achieved my goal I was starting to be considered as a full fledged ASCII artist.
