Breath Mint, ASCII art has been in forum games for as long as I can remember.

Doesn't change the fact that they are not forum games. The ASCII community is already tiny, haven't you noticed how those two threads were created almost three years ago and barely have 3,000 posts combined? Most of the people who frequent this forum never post on them anyway. A change to the appropriate forum would not be harmful for either.

ASCII has become extremely integrated with forum games, that cannot be denied. Threads like Continue the Signature, ASCII War, Rate the Siggy, etc ARE games. Hell even other threads like the schools and the stickies are gamelike. I suppose, the only threads that you could argue don't belong are the galleries and the companies, but it would be rather foolish the split up the ASCII community between forum sections.

As an active member of both the ASCII and forum games communities for the past 5 & 3/4 years, I can say without doubt that they are integrated to the point where a separation would be detrimental.

Anyway, let's not derail this thread any longer. Mods have always stated that ASCII belongs here, doubt that'll change.

I haven't been active in ASCII for a while, but just looking at the Siggy Guide it seems much more guide/school-like whereas DB# is more of a recreational/random hangout. I could see them being merged, however if people are actually trying to learn signatures and such, it seems like that could easily get drowned out by people posting ASCII art. But they are similar enough to where I definitely see the motivation, so I can't give a definitive opinion.

Regardless, I agree that Forum Games is the place for ASCII to stay. It's always been here and is very integrated with this community by history and by nature.

None of which are very active games. Continue the Signature has 187 posts in 2.5 years, Rate the Signature has 494 posts in 5.5 years. I couldn't even find the other one you mentioned. What does that tell you?

To be fair, if you were active, you wouldn't have threads from 2010 still on your profile.

Anyway, I am not naive enough to think they would actually be moved in the first place, I just thought I would point that out. However, those two threads should definitely not be stickied. The ASCII community is too small and not active enough. Merging them is an idea worth considering, though.

Starting typing a response, but I can tell this isn't something either of us is going to change our minds about. :P Agree to disagree.

ASCII is here to stay in forum games and has a small, concentrated, yet active community with a long history.

The only point of debate here is whether or not to merge, which I believe should be decided by the ASCII community.

Are you kidding me? The tone of this thread is "We've already made up our minds and we're doing this"

The only possible reason you could be wanting to do this is to clear up sticky space and claim ownership of the BD# thread and there are plenty of other threads that should be removed way before the BD# thread.

or maybe your thread should be moved to ... well.. guides as it is a guide

I'm open for new ideas, but currently I'm afraid the main "benefit" would be one ASCII sticky fewer, which I personally don't consider as a benefit at all.

Another possible issue. Some people are only interested in learning how to make a simple siggy for themselves. Others simply want to doodle. If merged, what would the title be? "ASCII Art [something]" That may turn new people away.

This is what I was thinking as well. How would you title the new thread? When I was new, I didn't know what "ASCII" means. Two separate threads called "Guide to Signature Making" and "Bored? Draw #ere!" seem much clearer to me.

I feel the need to stress that whilst some players might prefer one alternative, it is by no means confirmed; much rather a matter of figuring out what the majority of the community wants. So, as Ruby said already, everyone's opinions matter indeed. It is however worth noting that the OP of one thread has been inactive for roughly a year and that a majority of the thread needs updating per the new forum changes. A fact which sparked the initial thoughts.
