Ridley and Ben

A few things came to light. Gareth revealed a few points about this and that, though neither Ben nor Ridley seemed to care much. Ridley did not even react to Gareth’s revelation that Ridley was only partly expendable.

Talia offered her point of view about the situation. If what she said was true, Ben did not like how things were going. Though, all warfare is based on deception, so what else could be expected of human beings?

Talia also revealed her past, and her abilities, which included the use of two matrices. Ben did not know much about matrices, he was often an old-fashioned guy, and Ridley simply did not care. That is, he did care about what happened: he wanted revenge for the trouble the military guys did, but he was unconcerned with talking. He was a man of action and pleasure, not talking and planning. He was preoccupied with his thoughts.

Monologue finished, it was clear that Talia did not wish to talk much of her past. Ben was alright with that, Ridley did not care, and whatever anyone else had in mind, only time would tell.

“A’right. So, I guess it’s up to the young, short, spear lady to fight this Harbinger fella? Did he even tell us how he’s gonna get that going? ‘Cause I sure don’t, and I sure don't know what advice ta give her. You're much shorter than he is, I guess you could stab at his abdomen or thighs easily, as they'd be level to your hands."

Bridgett

As another conversation broke out about who would be doing what, Gareth began a line of questioning to Talia. Chloe seemed somewhat surprised, but it seemed all eyes were on Talia. Though she had not seen it for herself, the application of duel Crystallis use was frankly fascinating, if not truly impressive – though she didn’t pursue this line of questioning.

How about we leave the specifics to the professionals, okay? ” Bridgett retorted to Ben, her eyelid twitching as her temper flared. This was the second time her age, competence and height had been called into question, and she was getting more than a little insulted. With great refrain, she withheld any further retaliation. She didn’t want to side-track Gareth’s suspicions, after all.

"I don't see how justifies giving you greater attention or warning than, say, Bridgett or the Captain." Gareth pointed out. "And it seems rather odd that you insist on Chloe staying here, even though she is the only one among us who can fly the ship. A particularly paranoid individual might think you already knew she was their priority." Gareth shrugged. Then he looked to Chloe. "And while we're being paranoid, I would like to know how you survived."

Before either Talia or Chloe could answer, Gareth moved on to address the rest of the room. "As to who should represent us in the fight: I think we should choose Travis over Bridgett. I do not doubt Bridgett's abilities, but Travis has proven himself skilled as well, and if he loses a favor from him is likely less valuable than a favor from Bridgett."

There were other reasons for Gareth's decision, of course, but it would hardly do any good to state them. Gareth didn't like the idea of Harbinger approaching Bridgett for a favor any more than he liked the idea of being approached by Harbinger himself. And while Travis was with the Guild, and might feel compelled to carry out a contract, Gareth was hoping his principles did run as deep as Bridgett's.

And then Gareth found himself wondering what he would do if Harbinger called in a favor from him. And then he realized: he didn't know. Though he could lie quite well, he had never actually broken an agreement before, and for once actually felt a sense of uneasiness.

Negotiations - Discussion

If you’re going to argue against her remaining here when you know she’s a priority target, then I was wrong and you’re just stupid.
” Talia told Gareth, ignoring the fact that he had tried to move on to another subject. Although her voice was mostly level and controlled, it seemed like she was trying very hard to make sure it stayed that way. The annoyance it sounded like she was feeling was seeping through, but was not the full tone just yet. “
The fact that she’s your only pilot just gives another reason for it. How will taking her with you help? All they need is one sniper. Then she’s dead, you’re without a pilot, and everything goes to shit. Besides, unless you’re bringing the Princess with you, you’re going to have to send back for her unless Chloe feels comfortable with piloting a ship she’s never tried flying before into a landing in an extremely small space in the middle of a forest. Have you thought through your proposed scenarios at all?

Oh, but by all means let’s be paranoid. Let’s start making vague statements which will then be followed by a ‘I never specified what the alleged crime was so you obviously have a guilty conscience’ when whoever you’re leering at tries to give an answer. No, you know what, how about-

Silvandros, stop. You can consider this an order if that’ll help.

The Captain’s words cut through Talia’s, and although the aggravated look she was shooting in Gareth’s direction remained for a moment longer, her words subsided and she sat back in her chair. The look on her face said she was less than happy with what was happening right now, but that was the extent of what she displayed.

Now, I would like to say a few things. One, not engaging Silvandros is far more important than any of us because she will not fight unless they provoke her. As you already proved, you do not need the provocation. Two, I would appreciate it if you do not accuse one of my former soldiers of treason against their country. I understand that you may be looking for someone to blame, but nobody here is that person. Three, a favor from any one person here is not worth any more or less than that from anyone else. No matter who it is, they will all have a comparable use. And finally, I believe that a scion of the Melisandre house would be the best contender in a duel, if what I have heard about the family is true. That, however, is up to her.

Now,
” he said, looking over in Chloe’s direction, “
Would you like to answer his query?
” His tone was not accusatory, but simply curious.

After a moment of silence, Chloe nodded, and said, “
I don’t really know. I was just falling, and you know how when you fall you reach out for something to hold on to, even if there’s nothing? I did that, and when I grabbed, I grabbed onto the matrix that had been shot out of my hand. I was able to use it and stop my fall.

Also...I’d still like to go.
” she added quietly, looking down at the floor as she did so.

You’ll die.
” came the muttered response from the writer’s corner.

"I'm not accusing anyone." Gareth stated simply. "In a situation like this, where we don't know anything about the organization or the individuals behind this, it is entirely reasonable for someone in my position to not trust anyone. I am simply suggesting potential scenarios to see how you react. Your story has no apparent holes in it, and your reaction seems genuine, so thank you for diffusing my suspicions. And yes, I am fully aware of why she should remain here - I wanted to know why you thought that." He wanted to roll his eyes, but thankfully he was not foolish enough to actually do so.

Then he turned to the Captain, and shrugged. "I'm assuming connections to both the Nalis military and nobility are worth more than connections to the Guild, but I'm not overly familiar with the Guild so perhaps I am wrong. Bridgett it is, then. Anyway, regarding the challenge itself - what is our plan should we lose? Should we fall back on my idea of scouting then attacking?"

Ben and Ridley

Bridgett wasn’t happy about Ben’s remarks. He slightly raised his arms and lowered his head for a second, gesturing a playful conceding to defeat.

Gareth had questions, which Ben at first did agree with for the most part. Indeed, who would fly the other ship if they managed to sneak in? Or, was there some other purpose? Admittedly, Ben was unsure how their mission could be successful, but they had to try something, which was better than nothing.

Talia was the next lady to get a little angsty, Ben holding in a chuckle. But, he didn’t blame her, everyone was a little on edge considering everything that happened. Fortunately, the captain quelled Talia’s little outburst.

Chloe’s story was quite interesting, she was the most lucky (yet occasionally unlucky) person thus far. Ben slightly reared, eyes big for a moment.

“Well, I’ll be damned, yer the luckiest gal I’ve ever met.” Ben remarked, but Talia did not seem keen on letting her go along the mission.

Gareth gave his points on his subject, then asked a rather important question many forget to even think about: what happens when you fail?

“Hmm... I ain’t no army guy, so I don’t know if scoutin’ and sneakin’ be right with your idea and all. It’d be up to a professional, right?” Ben asked, looking up at Bridgett.

“All I know, is dat yer all sittin’ on yer asses doin’ notihn’.” Ridley suddenly exclaimed, standing up. ‘Come ‘n talk to me when yer actually gonna get sometihn’ done.” he continued while walking away, sounding rather angry, almost slamming the cabin door behind him.

“What’s his problem?” Ben mumbled. “Guess some people just can’t sit down.”

Annie listened what everyone was saying. She really wanted to help this mission so it's successful. She said," I think we should fail back to here and someone needs to teach the other people on this ship to fight. They don't know where we are yet. Or we could have scouts to look for a better hide out to protect the citizens and for a fall back." -Dances-

Bridgett

Bridgett had taken the insults in stride during this little get together, but Gareth’s suggestion that she ought to stay back for fear of what the man might ask really was the last straw. Sure, she could see that he was looking out for her in his own roundabout way, but she really didn’t need to be ‘looked out for’. The thought was infuriating, incomprehensible; she was the one who looked out for others, dammit.

“Gareth, I think that’s my decision to make-” Bridgett said flatly, before being headed off by Talia’s little rant. With a small sigh, she allowed the rant continue until it was headed off by the captain. This was a shocking development for Bridgett; up until that point, the captain had seemed somewhat distant and uninvolved.

Gareth continued to spiel out his crap, Ridey finally lost his patience with the roundabout arguments. Annie also chimed in, which Bridgett retorted, “ If I fail, I’ll be dead, they’ll be on alert and you’ll still be a rambling militia. So, you would all fall back and hunker down here.

Bridgett took a breath before continuing, “ Look – though I loathe to admit it, that man, foul mouthed though he may be, is correct for once. We’ve spent a good 15 minutes discussing why stealth, subtlety or even a head on attack won’t work. We have a working plan, all we need is an answer. And, for my part, I can’t wait to start my Vespanian holiday.
