Crash Site - Ship Interior: Bridge

Although there wasn't much extra that happened when she put on the helmet, one thing that Bridgett would note when placing the helmet on her head was that, when she looked at the members of the group on the bridge, there would be a readout that displayed for each one. Whether she actually cared to read, or even notice, them was up to her, as well as who she wanted to look at if she did decide to take advantage of this.

The response was almost immediate, the voice coming back through being that of someone that was comparable age to the Captain. It had less of his military seriousness, however, and was quite a bit more casual, as if the person speaking was having little more than a simple conversation with whoever was on the other end of the line. It was also a little more difficult to hear, but the undertone stated that he was, at the current moment, rather bored with how things were progressing.

"I wondered what your first move would be. Good on you for a surprise, since this was certainly not my first choice. Still, it took you long enough to actually do something, so now I suppose I should be wondering what else your strategists have come up with that necessitates you going through the trouble to contact me. In any event, I am who you want to speak to, although I can't be sure who you are. How about you introduce yourself and tell me what your master plan is, preferably in that order."

Bridgett

Bridgett paused, listening to every word carefully. His words confirmed her suspicions that the man had expected their interruption, and judging by the man’s tone of voice, perhaps he might have been indifferent to it.

Harbinger’s more casual tone was met with Bridgett’s clear matter-of-fact speech.

Very Well. Bridgett Melisande, next in line of the Nalis noble house of Melisande. I should inform you that you have committed war crimes under article five dash zero eight of the Aldlight accord by ransacking and firing upon an unarmed civilian vessel in peace time. But I’m told you’re a smart man, ‘Harbinger’. You know the penalties – and I’m in a position to see you caught, tried and hung as the terrorist you are. As the offended party, I demand that you and your crew relinquish your airship immediately and subject yourself to a court of law, or submit to single combat.

Negotiations

Maybe you should check your facts a bit more carefully, child of Melisandre.
” was the reply, spoken in a voice that said he really didn’t have time for the posturing that was going on. “
Only four people were attacked in the course of our occupation of the civilian transportation vessel Enerias, and all of them were invading natives of Verania, were not passengers of the vessel, and were combatants that opened fire on my people before they did anything. Our vessel also did not fire on the ship. That was the work of the vessel belonging to the same party that began the firefight aboard the Enerias. You have no ground to stand on, and you’re in no position to do anything of the sort.

There was a pause before he continued, “
I’m sure you don’t have time to waste on reciting pointless laws, and since single combat was done away with in any civilian, and most military, courts in recent years, I presume you added that in for another reason besides thinking it was actually a valid form of judgment. I’d appreciate it if you’d get to whatever point you’re trying to make.

Bridgett took a moment to contemplate the gravity of the man’s bluff. Did he truly plan to blame Verania for the attack and come out the hero, and where exactly did the Princess fit in his little story? Stealing a quick glance at the princess, she cursed herself as she realised she hadn’t gotten all of the facts prior.

Would the helmet provide any relevant data?

Negotiations

As she passed over the others to look at the Princess, small blurbs of text appeared and then disappeared rapidly, too quickly to see what they said. It seemed that, in order to receive something and keep it there, one had to focus their gaze on the individual that they wished to evaluate.

When she looked at the Princess for a moment, the display paused for a moment before giving the following readout:

Alicia Niere Ceris
Princess of Verania
Do not injure if possible
Not a priority
Expendable if necessary

Bridgett winced as she read the girl’s bio. So that’s how they thought of her; expendable. Despicable. Regardless, having the moral high ground wouldn’t get them a ship, and calling him out on his lies certainly wouldn’t prove the snake’s guilt. Lacking any form of martial firepower to threaten their target, their only option was to request an SOS. After all, regardless of affiliation, ignoring an SOS was a grave taboo.

“Forgive my abruptness, Captain. It appears I have talked out of turn.” Bridgett replied. “In which case, I would request the transfer of injured passengers and crew.”

Negotiations

"
Transfer to where, precisely? If you're requesting that my vessel, a small craft designed for the transport of less than five soldiers, attempt to transport the entirety of the passengers out of this area, I have to inform you that there is more risk involved in such an attempt than there is in waiting for a rescue. We have already sent out a call for assistance, and in the current situation that is all that I will order my crew to attempt.
"

There was a pause in Harbinger's speech. Up until this point, he had sounded almost tired, as if it was exhausting trying to explain this to Bridgett. Strangely, his tone was not condescending, although it did seem like he wasn't liking explaining all of this. When he continued, he sounded slightly regretful, but only so much as one would when saying something that didn't truly affect them.

"
Given the storm, however, I can make no guarantee that the message will be accurately received, and it is for the same reason that I am not risking a takeoff. If you are looking to assure the safety of those at your crash site, I would recommend simply remaining where you are and defending there. It will be of much greater help than anything else, as you will have to rely on a rescue team finding you regardless of what my actions are.

Bridgett

“That’s unfortunate, but I thank you for your time, Captain.” Bridgett said, before taking the helmet off her head and tossing it across the table. She shook her head, knowing full well she had botched the negotiations.

Well, negotiations are off the table. ” Bridgett said. “ How about we go back to plan A?

Gareth Arenar

Gareth looked at Bridgett with something akin to bewilderment. That had been, perhaps, the worst negotiation attempt he had ever witnessed.

Though admittedly, he had not witnessed many negotiations.

Rising from his seat, Gareth walked over to where Bridgett had so carelessly tossed the helmet, and then proceeded to pick it up... and put it on. She had, after all, not turned it off.

He was visibly taken aback at the various read-outs that appeared. He looked to the princess, and made note of her read-out. Not a priority... was that referring to her capture, or to the Princess herself? Expendable... well, her death would start a war just as easily as her capture or disappearance.

He looked at Bridgett, and began to examine her read-out, as he spoke into the device. "Rather cowardly, I would say." He said in his cold, even voice. "They said you're a fearsome fighter, but if that were true I don't see why you would be so quick refuse her challenge." Where reason failed, perhaps taunts would succeed, though he himself had his doubts.

At the moment he was more interested in the read-outs. After examining Bridgett's, he would then go on to look at the Captain, Talia, and Chloe, to see if theirs would unveil anything useful.

Negotiations - Take Two

Bridgett's actions were met with a rather incredulous look from the Captain and a single-handed facepalm from Talia. Neither one responded, though, or at least they didn't have time to before Gareth picked up the helmet and put it on. Anyone that might have been speaking, or had wanted to say something, would receive a motion from the Captain to cease their conversations, for the same reason that he had wanted to keep it silent when Bridgett had been speaking.

The helmet, which had deactivated when Bridgett had taken it off, came back to life when it was placed over Gareth's head. It seemed that whatever mechanism controlled it was sensitive to being used, and when it was not there was nothing about the helmet that was active.

There was the briefest of pauses inbetween Gareth's spoken words and the response, and the tone of the voice that came through the speakers by his ears sounded both amused and annoyed. What he did not sound like was dismissive, and it seemed that, from the way he spoke at least, that he was perfectly willing to hear out what Gareth had to say. He did not, however, seem to care about the taunts being thrown his way.

"
If you were listening at all to the conversation, I believe you would have heard nothing that resembled any sort of challenge. The first attempt was as though there was a force of law here that had any control over the area, followed by a request that is more dangerous to fulfill than anything you could do yourselves. From my point of view, my responses were entirely reasonable and not warranting a disconnect such as what took place.
"

"
Now, if you have something else to say, I'm all ears. Until it is safe to return to the skies, my crew is grounded just as you are. I would appreciate knowing who I am speaking to before we get to serious conversation, though.
