Negotiations - Discussion
“
Unless he had something to gain by telling you, it is very unlikely you’d get him to say much of anything.
” the Captain told Ben, sighing. He had looked unsurprised at the terms that Gareth had described, and offered the comment, “
He’ll mean what he says, at the least, but you still need to be cautious. What he might request down the line might not be extremely dangerous to you in terms of the request itself, but the consequences of the action might be much more serious. And if you decline to assist when he calls it in...well, that will be a whole other set of problems.
”
“
You’re not getting anything else, though. Bridgett is correct: you have no choice in this matter if you want to take this avenue.
” Talia spoke up. If she noticed the extended look in her direction or the involuntary step back, she made no mention of it. “
Still...if his demand is a favor, then it’s reasonable to assume that, as we figured, his objective is already complete. That’s assuming he’s not using it as a deception of some sort, but that’s not something I can really see him doing in this scenario. Am I wrong?
”
The question was directed at the Captain, who shook his head and said, “
Unfortunately not, at least not from my perspective. It would benefit us more if his objective was not complete, since then we might at least get some idea of what it is. I don’t think he would care if he told us what he wanted, though, because I find it more likely he would taunt us with that knowledge somehow. We have the disadvantageous position here, and he knows it. If there was really something he wanted from us, it’s likely he would come get it.
