As this went on, the Captain turned to address Bridgett’s question. He seemed both interested and surprised by it, but also seemed to be thinking about what it might give them judging by the way he answered.

Hmm. That’s a bit of a tricky question, although only because it really depends. If doing so would interfere with or put his current job at risk, then no, I would say that he would not. However, if it served his purpose, or was unimportant to whatever he wanted to accomplish, then he certainly would. To put it simply, he is an asshole, and he enjoys messing with people. Why, do you have another plan?

"They don't need to have a spy on the ship." Gareth told the kid. "They just need to know that the Princess would be on board, which can be accomplished by learning of her travel plans - no easy task, considering that her presence here was meant to be kept secret. From there they would just need to find out the ship's route and maybe plant some sort of tracking device for good measure. Even if there was a spy, they likely aren't on board anymore, considering part of the plan seemed to be crashing the ship . And if this hypothetical spy was still on board, we would have no way of discovering them without starting a witch hunt." There was a thoughtful pause, before he added: "Still, best to watch what we say in front of the other passengers."

Then he looked towards Talia. "I agree that it would be a good idea to leave Chloe here, to help protect the Princess. But if she stays, then who will fly the enemy ship?"

Bridgett

Annie’s mention of a ‘spy’, while somewhat relevant, wasn’t the sort of unnerving atmosphere the room needed at the moment. Sorting out why’s in the present was objective feat, and any conclusions had to be taken with a grain of salt. Right now Bridgett didn’t have any definitive proof she ought not to trust that anyone in this room wasn’t who they seemed, and as far as she knew, they didn’t either. Perhaps it was only a hunch, but everyone in this room could be trusted – at least for now.

In any case, Bridgett’s question had caught the attentions of the captain. From his description, he coloured her picture of a cruel manipulator. Okay, she could work with that.

I was just getting to that, ” Bridgett announced over Gareth in an obvious attempt to steer the conversation away from 'traitors'. Bridgett’s eyes locked with the captain’s, her face deadpan. “ As you all know, we are presently outgunned, out trained and are left in a tactically compromised position. Worst of all, we can assume he knows we’re coming. Reconnaissance or no, this is still likely to be the case. Therefore, I would instead use our communication equipment to contact this 'Harbinger' and challenge him to single combat. Our terms, naturally, would be unconditional surrender of their airship.

Naturally, I would stake my honour and volunteer as champion. ” Bridgett stated.

Annie repiled with a smile,”I understand that. My question is how they got that information of the travel plans of the princess if it’s very difficult to get? I agree we should watch out what we say with the other passengers just in case. I think we should look for that tracking device to make sure that they can’t follow us anymore. I am sorry if I’m being annoying but I’m trying to help.” She was happy that she was listen to her. -Dances-

"That's a horrible idea." Gareth found himself blurting out after Bridgett's suggestion, with some degree of surprise and concern audible in his usually stoic voice. "Even if he accepts, there is no guarantee that he won't simply lure you into some sort of trap. Even if he fights fairly, there is no certainty that he will actually yield the airship in the end. I should remind you, this is the same man who wears an invisibility matrix and shoved an unarmed individual out of an airship. And even if he intends to honour the agreement, I doubt his underlings will feel the same way, considering it is their only form of shelter and transportation."

Gareth paused, and for once actually seemed embarrassed at his bluntness, but then he recovered and carried on. "Besides, it would take too long. We would have to wait for him to respond to our message. Then we would have to negotiate the location, the terms, and of course lay counter-measures to prevent any sort of treachery... or lay a trap of our own. Either way, it requires time we do not have."

Bridgett

Bridgett clutched her fist, before releasing it. It was the only sign of frustration she shown as she turned to face Gareth. Perhaps he thought she did not think it through, perhaps he simply did not trust her, perhaps he did not care that he was trampling over her ancestor's pride. Either way, something about the boy she knew had changed; he was hesitating.

Funnily enough, tricks and traps are your forte, are they not? ” Bridgett said evenly. “ If this hastily formed militia is going to work, we have to play to our strengths. And yours isn’t running at a heavily armed airship with a Crystallis you got 5 minutes ago. Use that head of yours, Arenar.

There was extra emphasis on the Arenar, rather than Gareth’s name, a title she hadn’t used since the early days of leaving the manner. To her past self, Gareth was nothing more than an undisciplined layabout whose only claim was his father’s family name. And so, she coldly referred to him only by his family name, to remind him that he was riding on the curtails of his family name.

Of course, things had changed drastically since then – but the sudden reversion had to be scathing.

I’m prepared for this. I can do this, and I’m trusting you. Why won’t you trust yourself, Gareth? ” Bridgett continued. The hard look in her eye would dispel any doubt of her sincerity.

Annie looked up with excitement and said trying to stay calm,"I can help setting up traps. I know how to build traps from hunting. Maybe we can set some up around the ship to protect the ship. What do you think prIncess?" -Dances-

Gareth met Bridgett's hard gaze with a cold glare of his own. She hadn't even listened to his own plan, it would seem, based on what her primary criticism of it appeared to be. Then there was a brief moment of realization, as if he caught on to some sort of hidden implication and his expression turned thoughtful.

"I see. The duel itself won't be enough. As already stated, even if their commander intends to honour the agreement, his men will not - simply out of a desire not to be stranded in these conditions. However, if their leader were to accept, and meet you under fair conditions... the rest of us could attack the ship while you two are dueling. They will be leaderless, and he won't be able to surprise us with his invisibility matrix." He frowned, then turned to face the rest of the room. "There are still many flaws with the plan, and I am not entirely comfortable with it, but I suppose a compromise must be made."

Gareth appeared to be under the assumption that the sneak attack had been the Bridgett's idea from the start. Whether it was or was not, it had been her words that drove Gareth to his conclusion. He looked towards the Captain. "Do you think he will accept the challenge?"

Crash Site - Ship Interior: Bridge

Chloe said nothing of Annie’s childish response to what she had said, due to the fact that she was fortunately facing away. It was probably a good thing, considering the fact that Annie had just dismissed the fact that the entirety of Chloe’s family and friends that had been on the ship with her had been gunned down as stupid and worthless.

Well, if you secure it fast enough, you can either grab one of their headsets and call back to us, or someone can run back and grab her.
” was Talia’s response, and although there was going to be more judging by how she looked to be about to speak again, it was interrupted by Bridgett’s suggestion and Gareth’s immediate reaction. An impassive expression on her face, she watched them, adding nothing.

After a moment, she stood up for the first time since entering the bridge, walking over to the Captain and speaking quietly to him for a few seconds. He responded in kind, and although both of them appeared to have attention on the argument that was taking place as well, their discussion went on for the majority of its duration. Eventually, Talia went back to her seat, sitting down and leaning back once again.

Annie’s words were, unfortunately, lost in what was happening. Alicia had approached Chloe at the point where she had turned away, putting a hand on her arm with the quietly spoken words, “
I’m sorry.
” It had been met by just a shake of the head from Chloe as well as a few words spoken too quietly to be heard by anyone else in the middle of what was happening. It did, however, make her turn back around after she took a few deep breaths and wiped her face.
