Gareth Arenar

Gareth considered the Princess's words for a moment. On one hand, there would be people on the ship in need of assistance. It would also have supplies that they could scavenge, which they simply could not get far without. On the other hand... for all he knew, the people who attacked the ship could be waiting at the crash site to round up survivors, or it could be a bid to lure him and the princess in, knowing that they already abandoned ship.

He didn't like it, but in the end they really had little choice. It was dark and it was raining. They were both injured to some extent or another. Neither of them had a precise idea of where they were located. If the ship turned out to be a trap...

...well, if they were taken prisoner, then presumably they would at least be fed and sheltered. The alternative would be execution, but... was that better or worse than starving or freezing to death in the wilderness?

There really was no alternative. There was nowhere else to go. They were both nobles, and although Gareth had read some books about the subject he had very little firsthand experience about surviving in the wilderness, so as a result he was not entirely confident. The Princess's own skills were likely non-existent. Resigned to his decision, he fell in to step with the princess as they moved towards the ship.

"Be careful. We're likely walking into a trap. Watch your step, and stay close." He offered in the way of advice. A pause. "Why were you on that ship to begin with?" He suddenly asked.
Beneath the gold, the Bitter Steel.

It was hard to miss the look the young woman gave Travis - it was the kind that would send cold shivers down your spine, but then that was probably because his back was to a storm. Regardless, the two girls jumped ship hand in hand while the Guild member followed a couple seconds later - letting out an exhilirated yell that was muffled to nothing beneath the howling winds.

Free-falling was a new experience to Travis. He'd certainly been in his fair share of deadly and dangerous situations, but dropping to the earth below at break-neck speeds was not among them. It was cold, loud, terrifying and probably not something he'd repeat if he could help it - but by all the Crystallis in Nalis he could not stop his manic grin from taking control of his face. Adrenaline heightened every sense, nearly slowing time before his eyes even when all he saw was cloud - and then it ended, and below came the sight of rushing green as trees approached quickly. Two blurs not far off told him where the girls were dropping.

Travis wisely decided to activate the bail-out gear, his thrilling drop replaced sharply by an almost casual drifting. As the trees neared he shifted the weight on his shoulder, bracing both arms in front of himself to shield his face from the leaves and whipping branches - tucking himself in to lessen the amount of things that smacked against him. He felt scratches and small cuts open up on his exposed skin, grunting when his descent was abruptly halted by a tree trunk, and from there he slowly slid down the trunk as the gear finished its work.

All in all, not that bad of an experience.

Albeit his legs were a tad wobbly when he managed to get back onto them.

" Least you ain't dead, Travis... " He muttered to himself, unstrapping the bail-out gear and letting it hit the ground. Travis checked his immediate surroundings but, at least from this position, couldn't spot any of the others who had jumped. They couldn't have been far though, he'd been no more than a

couple of seconds behind them. This thought was quickly confirmed when a shrill voice shouted from somewhere nearby. He couldn't help himself, the man chuckled - what better way to celebrate people's survival?

Checking his bag it didn't appear to be overly damaged, just scratched up from the branches, but that was nothing new - it'd been through worse. He decided to quickly head over to where the shouting had come from, figuring that if anyone else had heard it they'd probably be doing the same thing - and he knew damn well better than most that you shouldn't be wandering alone in a forest. Less you knew what you were doing, of course.

...He'd bet those girls and the drunk guy didn't.

Travis didn't need to go far before he saw the young girl with the spear, and a glance up found the source of the shouting - the child on a branch. She wasn't all that high up, at least not to him, but it could still have been scary to her - hell if he knew. Dropping his bag by a trunk he moved to position himself directly below the dangling girl.

" Alright miss, you ain't that far up - just drop, I'll catch ya' !"

Annie was scared to speak so she nodded her head. She let herself drop and screamed as she fell hoping he would catch her. She was scared that she was going to die at this moment. She also felt like she was going to throw up. -Dances-

Bridgett

“… You know she was still wearing the Descent pack, right…” Bridgett sighed, ambling up to the pair. She might have been inclined to continue her lecture over their dangerous stunt, if not for one look at Annie’s sickly face. She had probably learned her lesson.

“Urgh. Never mind,” Bridgett conceded. "In any event, I have some questions, if you would oblige; who are you two, and what were you doing in the hanger?"

Travis had no real problems catching the child as she dropped, setting his feet against the ground and keeping his arms up to lessen the force of her fall - mostly for his own sake. He grunted as he caught her, his arms dropping under the weight but, thankfully, he managed to hold strong. With that he set her down on her feet, rubbing his shoulder as he glanced over to the spear-wielding girl - she seemed like the type who liked to take charge of a situation, seemed vaguely aristocratic, but that was just a guess.

" Well, I ain't got a clue about her, " He jerked his thumb at the child before taking the few steps over to where he'd dropped his pack, crouching down and opening it up as he spoke. " But the name's Travis, I woke up an found out the damn ship got invaded - so I figured I'd try my luck at getting rid of 'em. " From the bag he pulled out a bunch of leathers, removing his coat and stuffing it away before beginning to put them on over his clothes - not seeming to be in any discomfort about it.

" Managed to catch two of 'em by surprise, think you probably would've passed 'em on the stairs - couldn't get anyone else though, the pricks were already leaving by the time I got down there, and that one bastard in the mask had some kinda wind-controlling matrix, kept me from catching anyone else, " He finished with his leathers and went back into the bag, pulling out a large roll that he set on the ground, unlatching it and rolling it open to reveal a lot more blades than any person really needed. With casual manner he began to grab the various knives, daggers and blades and stash them about his person, many seeming to just disappear from sight once they were somewhere. The coup-de-grace, however, was the impressive pair of straight-edged daggers with handles seemingly carved from bone. Those he slipped into a pair of sheaths on his sides, and then finally stood up, turning back to the girls.

" I'm with the Guild, by the way. "

Annie was so grateful that man caught her. She felt relief but she still felt sick from what just happened to her. She said in a nervous, sickly voice,”Thank you Travis for catching me. My name is Annie. The reason I was on the air ship because I was going to live with my father.” She was still shaking with fear. -Dances-

As Bridgett listened to Travis’s little tale, her face told stories as the man boasted of his kill. Her brow furled in disapproval, but it wasn’t like she was in any position to call him out on it. At the very least, his story matched with everything she had seen thus far, which made seeing the man pull so many knives from his pack all the more unnerving.

In any event, Travis’s story wasn’t as complete as she would have liked. It was apparent that he arrived not long before she did, but this didn’t quite sit right. To start, he wasn’t alone in the hanger, the weapons locker was unfastened, and the Descent Packs were already unpacked. Given the sheer amount of gear the Terrorists were outfitted with and their disinterest in plunder, she highly doubted they would have wasted time raiding through the ship’s supplies.

There was a little more to this story, probably relevant to the Princess. At the very least, Bridgett didn’t want to risk bringing up that topic openly, at least, not until she had some definitive answers and a good talk with her father. In any case, she decided to prod for a little more information.

With a sigh, Bridgett asked, “So, if you two arrived late to the party, then just who was causing all that ruckus in the hanger?”

Travis gave the child a lazy wave in acknowledgement of her thanks, though he gave a few seconds of thought to the fact the child hadn't actually explained what she'd been doing down in the cargo bay in the first place - only why she'd been on the ship. Thinking back on it, the first he'd seen of her was when she was being lifted by her arm by that masked fellow, anything before that was beyond his knowledge. The spear-wielding girl was apparently unsatisfied with the answers provided, her line of questioning seemed odd though.

" You'd have to ask her or that drunk fellow who bailed out before we did, " He replied with a gesture to the child, who'd introduced herself as Annie, raising an eyebrow slightly at the spear-wielding girl. " First I saw was the kid getting dangled in the air by the masked guy, and that drunk fellow hiding behind a crate with a pair of guns. Whatever went on before that? I'm as in the dark as you are, miss. "

With that said Travis spared a look in the direction of the fallen ship, the rising smoke a relatively clear indication of where it had hit the ground if you hadn't been watching at the time of its landing. He'd heard the rumbling thud, but no explosion, judging by that the ship was still in one piece... For the most part. No doubt there were survivors. He turned back to the girls, jabbing a thumb over his shoulder in the direction of the crash.

" Don't mean to be rude, but I figure that's enough standing around - those folks are gonna need whatever help they can get, and I don't know this forest but I know damn sure it's gonna be full of monsters. Better we get moving than stand around for too long. " He looked between them, focusing more on the spear-wielding girl. " Well, unless you'd rather go your own way without me. "

Bridgett

With a sigh, Bridgett dropped her line of questioning with a shrug. She was hardly in the mood to interigate a child, and Travis had a point.

Bridgett’s gaze followed Travis’s towards the smoke trail on the horizon, clearly weighing her options. The ship had made a lot of commotion as it descended, and it was only a matter of time until the less skittish predators accept the invitation. Although there were guns aboard, the ship was manned by injured, if not shell shocked civilians... hardly the fighting sort.

You drive a hard bargain ,” Bridgett conceded, “ Though about that drunk fellow… It would leave a bad taste in my mouth if we didn’t at least look for him first. He should be somewhere close.

Bridgett paused for a moment, turning to Travis. “ And the name’s not “Miss”, by the way. It’s Bridgett.
