Bridgett

Bridgett sighed in response to Travis’s rather sombre reply, her gaze cast upward. It wasn’t like Bridgett expected to save everyone, but… damn it, writing them off as losses before you even began just seemed… well… wrong!

Bridgett was about to reply, when she felt something heavy across her breastplate. Caught off-guard, she saw Travis’s arm, stepping back as she shot him a questioning gaze. One look at Travis’s evident attentiveness was enough to clue Bridgett up that something was wrong. Tracing his gaze into the bushes, she could have sworn she just saw something move.

~Good spotting~ Bridgett scanned the bushes, but it was clear Travis was much more experienced. She couldn’t see, smell or hear… wait, she could hear something. A guttural howl, and more. A cool shiver ran down Bridgett’s spine, as the quiet forest awoke into a deafening crescendo.

Inhaling a deep breath, it was Travis who had begun the starting’s of a plan, only to be interrupted by the appearance of three ravenous Candid’s. Travis took the initiative, flinging a knife into one of the creatures. It was a good throw, crippling the creature in one strike; though before Bridgett had time to compliment the aim, Travis was already charging forward for the kill.

“Cocky idiot” Bridgett growled under her breath, readying her spear. “Annie, stay behind me, got it?“

Bridgett turned, realising the girl had already taken off. Well, so much for that plan.

Turning back towards the fight, Bridgett would immediately notice two of the Candid’s had passed around Travis, one of whom charged directly for her. Drawing back her spear, she dodged the beast’s first strike, lunging forward as the beast passed to drive her spear into the creature’s soft neck. The creature struggled as Bridgett pinned it to the ground, though it settled as Bridgett drove the spear deeper in, plumes of smoke exiting from the creature’s mouth.

Removing her spear from the creature, her nose wrinkled. She could never quite get over the smell of burned meat.

Glancing up, Travis had evidentially won his fight against the Candid. Well, that much was to be expected; he was a guild member, after all! Only when he picked up his knife did Bridgett realise her folly. The other wolf was targeting the girl!

Turning on the spot, Bridgett rushed towards the injured Candid. If she reached it before Travis, she would take a swipe at the creature’s back legs.

Ridley O'Connell

Damn ship crashed. At least he didn’t die, having believed that the armed men were there to kill him. But no, he kept low profile and stayed quiet, and the armed men left him alone; they were after someone else. Ridley barely had enough time to run down and get his pistol, holstered tightly by his side, having found it just in time to run back up as the airship crashed, and the next thing he knew, he lied somewhere, still smelling smoke and fire, and spilt liquor.

He sat up, shaking his head and rubbing the back of his neck. His eyepiece did not do much to help his vision, but he managed to make his way to the lounge window, overhearing voices and seeing other people were being helped out that way.

Helping himself through the lounge window, Ridley saw Ben.

“Yer still drunk?” Ridley asked with a crooked face, Ben blinking twice and a little confused.

“Nah, I got drunk again.” Ben replied.

“Aye, an’ at least you dohn’t look like a clown anymore.” Ridley remarked, then stepped away from the ship, not bothering to help anyone. He stopped and turned around to see the crashed vessel. “It would have taken more than that to stop real Nalis piloting.”

Alicia accepted the assistance to rise, but it looked like she was still distracted as she stared after where the sound had disappeared towards. Looking like she was about to say something, the Princess instead just shook her head and continued onwards with Gareth. If she had any opinions on what had just happened, she was keeping them to herself.

The two of them would keep going for a little while before they would be able to hear sounds in the distance that they probably didn’t want to hear: those of combat. It was weapons fire that they could hear, but the accompanying noises, the sounds of animalistic howling, meant that, if it was indeed the ship that was under attack, they were under attack by monsters and not by other people. In a way, this was better, since it meant they could approach and probably not be walking into a situation where Alicia would be in immediate danger specific to her.

However, what happened as this came into earshot would make approaching a bit less of an attractive prospect. The sound of heavy footfalls, those associated with a creature much larger and heavier than the average human, approached them from the right for a moment before moving away and towards the sounds of combat. A very large shadow could be seen through the trees, a form that looked something like a massive ape-like creature, and it seemed that this monster was now moving towards the crash site. It sounded like they had defenses, but it was also likely that something like this would do a great deal of damage and harm before it would be able to be dropped.

There’s no way...they can’t possibly hold that off.
” Alicia whispered, her eyes wide as she followed the path of the creature. “

Crash Site - Ben

Ben got a skeptical look or two from those helping get the passengers out of the ship, but they didn’t stop him from assisting. It was clear that actually getting people out was more important than anything else, and since Ben hadn’t tried to attack them not much else really mattered right now.

His question, or at least part of it, was answered just by being there; those outside the window weren’t the only ones, and in fact they were only there because there were others inside that were actually getting anyone still there out of the vessel. He wouldn’t recognize any of those that were assisting people in getting out from inside the ship, but it was clear that not all of them were crew members. Also, the people that were being assisted out of the wreckage seemed to be more injured than most of those who were already outside; a reasonable thing, since everyone that could exit on their own probably already had.

“Fortunately not.” one of the two outside spared the energy to tell Ben as the people were gently lifted down and the one that had brought them out jumped down after to assist them to the rest of the passengers. “It sounds like the fire is mostly contained, and isn’t much inside the open structure itself. The engine blocks are contained well enough, and the structural integrity seems to still be intact. It’s a mess in there, though, and we’re trying to find the barrier generator that’s supposed to be here for emergencies like this so that everyone can be safe out here.”

He might have been about to say more, but was stopped by the sound of shouts from over by the rest of the passengers as well as the noise of weapons fire, and to top it all off a dramatic flickering of light as the fire on the side of the ship seemed to draw itself together and move through the air towards the side where the passengers were situated, seemingly of its own accord.

“Damn it! They’re here already?!” he exclaimed, eyes on the fire for a moment before the other one spoke, her voice calmer than his but still quite concerned.

“Come on, we just need to help here. The Captain said he’d have it under control, remember?”

Crash Site/Forest - Trio

The remaining creature’s snarls turned to even more shocked yelping as the searing spear connected with its hind legs, throwing it off balance and off the chase of the girl now climbing a tree. Now that it’d received multiple strikes to its rear legs, the creature seemed a bit more wary, facing the two combatants without yet charging.

Over by the ship, it looked like the creatures were closing in on the passengers, but it also seemed that they weren’t having as easy of a time as they’d probably hoped. The sound of weapons fire was coming from where the passengers were located, and the source of that was five people that were standing on the outer edge and firing at the incoming monsters. There wasn’t anything standard about those using the weapons, and it seemed likely that anyone who wanted to try and keep up a defense had been given whatever had been lying around. This wasn’t a situation where anyone could afford to be picky.

After a moment, though, there was a new addition to the combat in the form of two people that had shown up on the airship’s outer deck, one male and one female with the male carrying a rifle. One could assume that they had been inside the ship, helping to get people out, but whatever the reason only one of them looked familiar to one of the group. Bridgett would recognize that one of them, the man, as the Captain with whom she had met earlier.

He began taking shots at the monsters almost immediately, and from what could be seen he was certainly a better shot than any of the others that were firing. Admittedly, he did have the vantage point from up on the ship, but his aim looked to be markedly better than those on the ground.

As for the female, it became clear quickly that what she was doing involved combat matrices of some kind, as the area around her right arm was glowing an orange-red and that around her left shimmered in azure. The fire from the ship seemed to take on a life of its own, extending and moving through the air towards the oncoming monsters. Those it approached seemed to dislike that it was even there, and even more so when it wrapped around them and then blazed strongly, causing howls of pain to echo through the air.

The remaining creature looked as though it was about to charge when a massive howl echoed through the trees, accompanied by the noise of what sounded like another quadrupedal galloping from the treeline in the direction the wolf creatures had come from. The noises stopped the one near them dead in its tracks, and it was about to run when a giant fist came down atop it, flattening the creature as it let out an anguished howl that was immediately overshadowed by the howling of what had just connected with it.

The new creature was quite a bit more threatening, as well as large an angry. It had more of the shape of a gorilla, but stood nearly fifteen feet tall and had an enormous amount of muscle almost popping out through its hair-covered skin. As with the wolfish creatures, the eyes burned with murderous intent, and as it lifted the fist off the pulpy remains of what had just been the trio’s opponent, it gave them a look that made it very clear it wanted them dead and in its stomach.

Annie climbed as high as she could hoping that the strange creatures won't get her. She was terrified of them. She wished that she knew had a fight to help because she felt that she was the weak link if this group. She was looking for stuff to rain down on the strange creature to stop them. -Dances-

Ben

He nodded, at least the fire wasn’t immediately dangerous, but the gunfire certainly suggested danger, and then the flames started being funny. Seemed like Ben was quite the omen of bad luck.

“The hell be that shootin’? C’mon folks, we need to pick it up helping the people. Come on, let’s go!” Ben stated aloud, and continued doing whatever he could to help people. He did not know if he would be able in his rather intoxicated state, but willing to help, he attempted to climb up through the lounge window. “We gotta make sure no one’s left inside.” he exclaimed and then groaned, climbing rather loosely. Once he reached the lounge window and crawled through it, he proceeded to aid people out the airship. Although drunk, he was still a tall strong guy, so chances are he’d be able to help just about anyone.

After doing everything he could do in whatever amount of time there was before the flames grew too great, he called, “Hello! Anyone else here? We need to get ya’ll out if anyone’s left here! Hello?”

If the flames did not smoke him out, Ben would continue seeking out anyone who happened to be still inside, risking the smoke and heat. He buttoned up his duster around his neck, so that it served as a rudimentary semi-filter.

Ridley

Gunfire? Ridley immediately withdrew his peculiar pistol and raised it, keeping an eye out with that remarkable eyepiece of his. By the looks of it, there was a small group of people over yonder, someone above the ship, and possibly more groups elsewhere, but Ridley could not know for sure. He was still a bit shaken and dizzy from the crash.

Ridley ran forth to investigate. Upon joining whichever group of armed folk were nearest to him, he would proceed to fire at the incoming threat, whatever it was.

Perhaps it'd been because he'd been cooped up in that airship for so long, but Travis' eagerness to cut down some monsters had made his actions sloppy. His throws were perectly on target, and his blade strokes deadly, but his tactical awareness had been somewhat thrown off the moment he realized he was able to get stuck into killing some beasts.

Basically, he'd missed the fact the third monster had been going for Annie until he'd brought low his first target. Luckily enough the combined efforts of him and the spear-wielding Bridgett were enough to stop the creature from reaching the child before she finished climbing into the tree - just as he'd told her to. Good, the girl was able to recognize the danger and wasn't going to try and throw herself at the monster or something equally stupid. Gods, there was a reason he'd always tried shelving off escort jobs to other Guild folk...

Probably not the time to think about that.

Both Travis and Bridgett had found new positions facing off against the remaining monster, which had turned its attention to them with wary hostility. With its back limbs wounded the creature would be no problem for either one of them to finish off, but before Travis could move to do so, or indeed the wolf-beast could make a move of its own, there came the echoing roar of a far worse uninvited guest.

" Figures the noise would draw in a big one... " The Guild member grunted, likely inaudible to Bridgett as the vicious howl overcame most any other noise. He tensed and shifted his footing, dagger held in a backwards grip as the new, far larger, far angrier, monster broke from the treeline and pulverized the wounded wolf-beast. Travis observed as much as he could manage as soon as the Big Monster came into sight, estimating its height and - quite obviously - the fact that a strike from those muscular limbs would easily break bones.

This one, like the wolf-monsters, was a creature he hadn't encountered back in his home region. Still, there were
