Either he would live, save the girl, and hopefully prevent a war... or the sum of all his life choices would be two unidentifiable globs of a jam-like substance splattered on the cold hard ground.

He jumped out of the hold.

Bridgett

Bridgett gave the captain a hard stare as he confronted her accusation, but was not found wanting. The man seemed genuinely upset at the prospect of war, and if she was any judge of person, not the sort to cohort with such ideas readily. She also couldn’t fault him for failing to mount a defence; this was a civilian craft. Ordering his men to take up arms was akin to asking them to die, all the while putting the passengers in the crossfire. It really was a no win situation.

Dropping her gaze, her expression softened as she breathed a sigh of relief. In her eyes, the crew were absolved of suspicion… a minor victory, at best, but she was grateful. On the bright side, at least she didn’t have to worry about being actively stabbed in the back.

“I understand, captain, it must have been tough…” Bridgett admitted, falling silent as she felt the floor list. As an expert seaman, she already had one arm pressed against the back of the captain’s chair, so it was easy to compensate – but that didn’t make the counter-list any less worrisome, a worry that only intensified when an operator announced the cause; the cargo doors were open!

Bridgett was dumbfounded. What brand of idiot would open the cargo doors in this storm?

“Captain, do you have someone who can show me the way?” Bridgett asked, with a twinge of urgency. “We need to shut that door.”

Name: Travis Fenwick.
Age: 24.
Gender: Male.

Appearance: Travis isn't one to stand out in a crowd at first glance, sporting shortish dark brown hair that sticks up at the front - even becoming quite fluffy when exposed to enough humidity. He has a short but well-kept goatee, light blue eyes and a series of four small, slight scars that come down from the lower right side of his right cheek to nearly his jawline. They're quite shallow, but unmistakably mementos left by some kind of large creature.

He isn't especially tall or large, coming only to about 5'8" with a slender form. However, he has an impressively lean physique that can't easily be made out clothed - clearly maintaining an excellent fitness regime and honing himself well. Darker colours suit him well, often wearing practical clothes with a lot of pockets and hidden alcoves - plus a good pair of boots that never make any unnecessary noise.

Profession/Skills: Travis is, in his own opinion, (and admittedly a lot of people he's worked with's) a master with knives and blades. He has extensive skill in using various short blades in particular, notably straight-edged daggers, in combat scenarios. He is particularly agile, and an extremely good climber! Mixing nicely with the rest of this skillset is his capabilities with stealth, keeping himself out of sight and unheard even without the usage of crystallis tech. He has considerable knowledge of monsters in the wild as well, and is versed in fighting, and killing, a small variety of them. Particularly big ones he can climb on to stab the fuck out of their weaker points.

Weaponry/Armor/Notable Accessories: First and foremost, Travis is never without some kind of blade - doesn't matter how small it is, but you can bet he has one at all times hidden somewhere on his person. All blades he owns are combat reliable, of course. Throwing knives, holdout blades, combat daggers, he owns a nice variety usually kept in a roll-out holder when he can't have them all on

him. Otherwise they're in sheaths or subtly stashed somewhere in his clothes, or strapped to a limb... Or elsewhere. He'll always manage to find a way to slip one past some security, he'd feel naked without one.

Of particular note are a pair of sturdily crafted twin straight daggers, each with a foot long blade and handles that seem to have been made from carved bone - each with a dulled blue crystal set into them. When the tech is active the blades of the daggers gain a thin, faintly blue sheen to them - and hum lightly with power. This is a light power field, giving them more ability to pierce and penetrate thicker armour - or, as they were crafted for initially, thicker hide and scales. The field will not cauterize wounds.

Travis does have a set of armour, a sturdy leather set that mostly provides him with some lightweight protection to his vitals, but that he doesn't usually need to wear until he's off on a job - thus it stays tucked away in his pack during casual/non-dangerous times.

History: Little more than a common farmer's boy from Verania, Travis has had his work cut out from him getting too where he is now - which isn't exactly high up the totem pole. His early years were spent working his family farm while doing his damndest to skive off working and instead explore his surroundings, culminating in a close encounter with a weak monster that almost killed him were it not for the timely intervention of his father and older brother. While the monster was killed Travis' father took an injury to his leg, leaving him unable to work the farm effectively, so it was up to the older brother to take over. Travis, still young and dumb, didn't want to be stuck doing the same for the rest of his life and slipped away in the night to strike out on his lonesome!

Clearly he hadn't learned his lesson.

Were it not for a lucky encounter with a pair of hunters from the Guild the boy would certainly have died out there. As it was they were unable to figure out where he

came from and, struck with few choices, Travis was taken in by the local Guild where he was put to menial work. Now the youth was right where he wanted to be, but he wasn't doing the right things yet, so he skived away whenever possible to spy on trainees and try to teach himself how to fight. It didn't go so great, and when he was caught (quite quickly) he was put back to work - didn't stop him from continuing though, and eventually they relented and Travis started to receive the training he wanted, albeit with the stipulation that he do his damned chores.

Long story short, Travis became a Guild member when he came of age and has done various jobs since then - having a particular eye for jobs that involve taking out monsters. He eschews guns, not liking them very much, and sticks to using blades of all kinds - primarily short, but he's used a few longer blades before. His crystallis imbued daggers were commissioned by him after his last blades broke during a hunting job, using his saved up profits and some of the bones from said monster to get his current weapons made by the local Guild's craftsman.

How did he come to be aboard the Enerias? Good question. Travis wanted to branch out a little, go to a new city with a different Guild building and start doing some jobs there instead - see some sights, kill some different beasties, you know, the whole tourist experience.

Other: Travis has heard of some pretty fancy combat matrixes out there that could make a person invisible, or boost their reflexes and agility. He's pretty damn interested in the idea of getting hold of a beauty like that, even if his current capabilities are already fantastic.

It really didn't hurt to be paranoid sometimes - in the case of Travis and his penchant for hiding blades, never had that been more true than when he woke up in the middle of an airship boarding.

Not that he'd been aware of most of the action the moment it started. He'd only woken up after near enough everybody had come and gone from the lounge where he sat, napping away on one of the comfortable chairs - an old baseball cap tilted down over his eyes as he quietly snored. It took a few gunshots before he started zawake, or maybe it was the whimpering of some nameless fellows a few seats over that finally did it, but either way he woke up pretty late to the party.

Poor guy ended up losing his cap when he started awake - the article of headwear lost to the mysterious land beneath the seats. On the other hand, being hastily caught up to what the scared passengers in the lounge knew about what was happening did give him a relatively decent idea of the situation. Sort of. Army guys with guns here to do something, they'd shot some people, clearly these were not good folk. Thus Travis did what came naturally and slipped out of the lounge, slid the small karambit knife he'd managed to disguise under his belt buckle into his hand, and quietly made his move further down the ship in the direction of the loudest footsteps.

Whether it was by luck, skill or a bit of both columns the slightly drowsy Guild member made it down near to the cargo hold's stairway shortly before the final two soldiers made it there. Hearing the gunshot and whirling winds below were a pretty clear indicator that it was where the main action was happening, but two sets of footsteps approaching from behind gave him a quick jab to the brain in regards to his lack of plan. He ducked into a narrow alcove just to the side of the entranceway leading into the cargo dock access, gripping his knife tightly as the footsteps neared and the two soldiers, one after another, strode on by his shadowed spot on their

direct way to the stairs - peripheral vision failing them in this instance. Probably because of the helmets.

Alright then lads, Travis thought to himself, sliding out of the alcove as soon as they were past. Time ta' stop a hijacking!

Sure, he didn't have the full picture of what was going on - but these guys looked the part, they'd shot some people, so his job was pretty clear. The brief second or two it took the first soldier to start down the stairs into the cargo dock meant the second was left at the top for only a brief moment, unable to proceed, but it was just long enough for Travis to silently get behind him, lock his left arm up under the left arm of the soldier (both holding him back from stepping forwards and forcing one limb away from his gun) and, simultaneously, drive the vicious curved blade of his knife into the man's jugular - ripping it sideways to tear a horrible gaping wound that sprayed blood down the steps and onto the wall.

Of course there was no way the first soldier didn't notice the disturbance a few short feet behind him, what with the spray that hit the back of his head and the gurgles of his dying comrade, but Travis was nothing if not fast. Tearing the blade through the second soldier's jugular sprouted panic, thus the soldier grasped for his throat as Travis used his left arm to force the soldier to the side - falling to the ground clutching his throat. Thus, while the first soldier was turning, Travis lunged down the steps and battered the raised weapon off-course before he could be gunned down.

Somehow neither man lost balance from this, but the tight quarters and sudden attack gave little room for the soldier to use his weapon - especially when Travis was trying to stab him in the damned neck. He let go of the gun, grabbing for Travis' wrist instead and catching it, preventing the razor sharp tip from ripping his throat like it had his comrade. The two struggled, Travis' free hand lashed out - slipped the soldier's

combat knife from its sheath in a fluid motion, and stabbed it straight into the man's thigh. The pain gave Travis the upper hand in the struggle, the soldier's strength failing him for that vital moment - allowing Travis' karambit to tear across his neck and splatter the Guild member with sprayed lifeblood. He promptly kicked the weakening man down the steps, ripping the knives free in the process, and followed the tumbling body with a really, really dumb plan in his mind.

...Which basically consisted of the body hitting whoever was down there, distracting them long enough for Travis to close the distance to keep fighting, give whoever the soldiers had been shooting at down there a moment of opportunity, or perhaps he'd just get himself shot. Really, he didn't think it all through so well - but hey, two down, right?

Cargo Hold

Annie’s attempt to attack the man met in complete and utter failure as he grabbed the arm that was wielding the knife at him and lifted the child into the air by it, leaving her hanging at least a foot off the ground. All this was done with only the barest of looks in her direction, and he uttered, “
Tsk, tsk. That’s not a very age-appropriate thing to do.
” in a chiding, yet malicious, tone as he held her there. The weapon, a larger than average handgun, that had taken the shot moments before remained in his other hand.

His expression changed as Gareth did a surprise escape stunt and pulled the princess with him, although he didn’t appear all that angry. Instead, he started chucking, as though he found it amusing that his prey had just escaped a grasp that had been all but certain. Turning away from the open door, although he didn’t close it yet, the man scanned the cargo hold, looking over the two crew members that were now frozen in a state of shock as well as the man who was still rummaging through crates. Seeming to find nothing of interest, he spoke, although given the storm Annie was the only one who would be able to hear it.

Pull back as according to plan.

As for Ben, if he searched for long enough - or had asked anyone who knew where stuff actually was - he would be able to find where his weapons were stored. They were in a locker way back in the corner, and he would find that it held all of the weaponry that passengers of the ship had been forced to hand over. There were three combat matrices, his weapons, and a spear in the locker, and that was it. It appeared that the passengers on this trip didn’t have much in the way of combat training.

When it came to the master plan of Travis, he had done a lot better than most of those on this ship, although at this point he was faced with the fact that not knowing the extent of the layout would mean his success did not translate into further immediate success. The tumbling bodies did exactly what they should have done, and made their way rapidly down the stairs. They would have taken out anyone else down there, but because the stairs came to a stop on a landing before turning past the stairs and going in the opposite direction as the catwalk there was nowhere for them to go except into the wall.

Still, it wasn’t a failure. While Travis may not have been able to hit anyone else with the bodies, he had cleared the way down the staircase and onto the catwalk. Whether he had actually alerted those down there wasn’t exactly clear, as they did not turn to fire at him but rather vaulted over the edge of the catwalk to land on the floor of the cargo hold a fair distance below. The movements of the one that had gotten hit with the bottle was more sluggish than the other, their impact much less steady than the other, but both of them were now on the floor of the hold and beginning to move towards the open door.

The one gripping Annie’s arm, however, did react to the killing of his soldiers: with another laugh, although it was unlikely anyone still in the hold would know why he had done so this time. He seemed to care not at all that his men were dying, and one had to wonder why exactly he seemed to be so pleased when everything looked to be going so poorly. Still, for the moment he did not let go of the arm holding the knife.
