Alicia fell away from the door, looking around for someone or something to catch herself on, while Chloe managed to grab a support on the inside wall of the ship and keep herself near the door.
Unfortunately, as the ship began to shift, the soldiers began to stir. They did not move as one normally would, their movements sluggish, but it was enough to show that whatever had happened was wearing off. It was enough to make Chloe, who had been paying attention to their state, curse and start to fumble with the matrix again, looking like she was trying to do something else.
Sadly, that wasn’t to happen. A gunshot echoed throughout the hold and Chloe’s hand flew backwards, the hole in her wrist making her cry out in an exclamation that was part shock, part disbelief, and a whole lot of pain. It also sent the matrix, which had been in said hand, go flying out the open cargo hold and into the darkness of the storm.
For the briefest of moments, where the shot had come from wasn’t clear, but then the front of Chloe’s shirt tightened, like a hand was grabbing it. A second later, the air in front of her shimmered, and a person appeared out of thin air, their hand grabbing the front of her clothing. The individual was clothed almost identically to the other soldiers, the difference being that they were not wearing a helmet. Instead, it looked like he was wearing some kind of visor, although it was not entirely visible because his back was to everyone in the hold.
In what almost seemed to be slow motion, the man pulled Chloe a few feet over towards the open door, paused for the briefest of moments, and then half-tossed, half-pushed her out the opening, sending the young woman on a path to follow the matrix that had been lost moments before.
By this point, the soldiers were beginning to move again, but surprisingly enough they did not make a move to shoot anyone.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.
