Cape of Astriki

After an Apache and an Orc spoke, Emily shot a gas-empowered bolt at the large warship, and Salvator summoned the power of the stars upon the vessel. The starlight twinkled with wrath and rage, and the stars beamed down a barrage of sparkling fiery power. Those onboard did not expect any such magic, and the beams bombarded the vessel in many areas.

Emily's bolt thudded somewhere along the deck, and released some gases of some kind, which would be quite the nuisance. As the gas flowed and starlight finished, the sailors went to work, smothering flames with rags or dousing them with water. Since the vessel had walls and a roof, and even a tower, those within the ship or the tower were safe.

The oarsmen continued rowing, and the atakebune continued sailing; it was, after all, a floating fortress, and could withstand much punishment. It would still take some time before reaching the beach, but it was obvious a coastal nighttime attack.

Suddenly, a loud blast sounded, followed by powerful whooshing noises; a few cannonballs flew passed the cape, thudding against the earth or rolling along. There had to be another ship somewhere, a much smaller one, hiding amidst the waves and darkness, but where? It seemed to be coming from the left. Perhaps there was some way to scout out and illuminate this other ship?

Poca

The Darkbeast remained standing still, doing nothing. The black and red fog continued swirling around, and she saw a few more silhouettes gradually appearing... Perhaps she should do something?

T'was like an endless tide these Darkbeasts; two emerging from the shadows for every one felled, growling and hissing their discontent. In the heat of battle Gideon's mind could not help but wonder why there was such focus on him, Tsakirr's previous explanation left much out, but now was no time to consider what the world intended for him. Not when a great, shadowy hand caught him off guard and dragged him out of the ruined window arch.

There was no way for him to grab his fallen sword, it being out of reach, leaving the Unhallowed armed with only his rusted dagger that could scarcely last on its own for the entirety of the battle. He was hung in the air, upside-down, and received but a moment where his eyes caught sight of the original Darkbeast before he felt himself being slammed against stone.

The resounding clang echoed through the ruins, rattling the Warlord's bones but leaving no lasting harm. He twisted in the grip, legs pinned but upper body still under his own control, attempting to reach up and slash at the long fingers holding him so tightly. Such an action proved futile, the blade too dulled to be of much harm when he could not use his full strength to pierce the ethereal limb. Only when his ally was forced to the ground, pinned by tendrils, did Gideon see his passage to freedom.

Fate aligned itself with him this day; the massive appendage dragging him roughly across the ground in its quest to slam him against something else, the scraping of metal on rocks grating to the ears, but it drew him within arm's reach of his target. Tsakirr's fallen blade was snatched up at once, and being dragged across the ground gave the Warlord the purchase he needed to be able to sit up, driving down the dagger in his left hand with full strength to pierce the wrist of the shadow arm, intending to not only pierce through, but to dig deep into the ground and halt its movement if only for a few precious seconds before it ripped it free.

But those few seconds were

more than enough time to strike with the borrowed sword. Were it pinned by the dagger Gideon could lash out at the wounded limb with ease, aiming to pierce, slash and finally sever the black appendage from its coiled hand.

The ancient dagger was unlikely to last before it was broken; but the warrior knew it would serve him well for this final use.

Gideon

Indeed, these damn things could be quite numerous; they probably were invoked by a conjurator of some sort. Tsakirr's words suggested that Darkbeasts were after him especially, but there was still so much to figure out.

Grasped by the shadowy arm and treated like a rag doll for a while, Gideon's dagger did little, but he managed to grab one of Tsakirr's blades while being dragged, and rammed the dagger up to the hilt into the shadowy arm's wrist, then the dagger stabbed into and dragged in the earth, slowing down the arm. This was when Gideon swung Tsakirr's sword with all his might, the serrated edge biting into the shadowy arm and ripping through it, making a messy, painful slice. The hand became loose as it left its owner.

The sudden loss of a hand caused the arm to jerk back, the ancient dagger blade snapping from the sudden whiplash, but at least Gideon was freed. Tsakirr got angry and used his psionics to propel him with great power, and he ripped himself free from the annoying tendrils.

The first Darkbeast then howled, spreading its arms, bending its knees, and tilting its head back, and that was when several more silhouettes of typical Darkbeasts arose, those that had begun to arise previously now fully formed and charging the two Unhallowed.

“The howling one must be the Conjurator! He's the conduit for the others!” Tsakirr exclaimed.

Tsakirr then sprang to action, warping himself around Gideon and slamming into a few Darkbeasts, knocking them down. He then gripped his sword with both hands and began spinning in a rapid circle while levitating, and he became quite the blender for a second, shredding the Darkbeasts before another tackled into Tsakirr's back. The two rolled over one another, both growling and pawing.

For now, there was a means for Gideon to charge the Conjurator Darkbeast, who was preoccupied with his summoning...

Analee felt the power of compassion flow through her and visions from the past fill her mind. She now could heal simple wounds. Opening her eyes, she gazed at Ikelos. "Thank you" she said. Turning her gaze To the other girl, Analee could see her skeptical look. The fate he spoke of was that from her nightmares. Would she have the courage to continue knowing that it was that that lies ahead. Shaking the thought away, she asked him another question. "Can I come back here willingly somehow if I have questions or need guidance?" She asked as she turned back to face the dragon.

Miranda felt something, even if she was in denial, she still felt it. Lifting up her hands, she saw her veins turn a glowing blue as the power flooded her. As her power grew, she saw visions of her past, of her becoming who she was today.

She quickly looked at Ikelos as he spoke of something watching her body. Miranda quickly began think about herself and she vanished.

Miranda quickly awoke and sat up with a jolt. "Where are we? What happened?" She asked as she looked around for the girl that was once with her. Reaching up, she felt a bandage on her head. As she gazed around, her eyes met those of the darkbeast, two white eyes watching her. Pushing herself to a standing position, she quickly reached down for her weapon, which wasn't there. "Crap" she whispered, not taking her eyes of of it. " what do you want!" She called out to it.

Another of his weapons lost to the monsters, leaving only two still intact enough to serve their purpose. But with one out of sight, dropped amidst the ruins, Gideon had only one tool of war remaining from the ancient days. He picked himself up steadily, clutching the serrated sword that had freed him while sparing little more than a glance at the shattered dagger that had served him well for so long. The fresh blade was a welcome sight; its surface free of rust and grime, edge sharp and vicious.

The original beast, the leader, the Conjurator as Tsakirr declared. Familiar tactics of war; cut the head off the snake and the body will die. Many a battle won through the loss of leadership, those foolish enough to have stepped up to face him in the midst of the battlefield and those cowardly enough to hide behind the bodies of their men. Blood ran thick, splattered across his armour, near permanently dying his weapons red as he stalked across the broken bodies of the fallen, his countless foes-

" No... " His whisper was lost in the cacophany of shrieks and growls, but not to himself. Those thoughts of violence were shattered, replaced by the steadfast calm that cooled his non-existent blood and tempered the old fury that once drove him. No longer was he that same man.

The Warlord's gaze burned hotly into the eyes of the Conjurator. At that same moment Tsakirr's efforts paid off, his tornado of whirling blades carving a neat passage before he was forced into a tumble with another Darkbeast. The opportunity was not lost, and before the pair even hit the ground to roll Gideon was moving; greaves pounding across the rubble-strewn dirt, countless cries in his ears that signaled the amount of enemies that would swarm him.

But he would not be halted.

Beasts converged upon him; intent to drive themselves between he and their master, driven to bring down the ancient warrior and feast upon what essence lay within his shell. Gideon's borrowed blade tore through them

without remorse, a deft swipe claiming the heads of two unfortunate Darkbeasts that attempted to block his path, sharply followed by a skilful parry and riposte through the throat of a third. The blade tore through the side of the creature's throat as his charge went on uninterrupted, severing three clawed fingers from an outstretched limb that quickly recoiled in agony.

Another was met with a closed fist crashing into its muzzle, smashing it aside as if it were nothing more than a minor inconvenience, and the next shoulder-tackled mid-leap that sent it crashing into a nearby tree. The borrowed blade swept through the air again, bissecting a Darkbeast and following up with a thrust to the side, serrated edge tearing into the gut of yet another. The Conjurer lay just ahead, the way cleared for a further few steps, the charge unabated despite their attempts.

But perfection was impossible. A creeping shadow hid a clever beast, and too late did Gideon see the clawed limb swipe at his leg hard enough to break his stride. Momentum and weight carried the warrior forwards, toppling towards the ground... Until he curled into a roll, commiting fully to the motion that carried him onwards, greaves scraping across the dirt as the roll ended with him bounding back into his charge; the blade in his grip finding its way into the heart of a Darkbeast fully expecting to be pouncing on proned prey.

The sword was lost then, the serrated edge caught deep inside the beast, any extra force required to pull it free would only destroy his maintained momentum. Gideon released it, barely avoiding another lunge as his hands reached back and felt the last of his weapons waiting for him. He span, wrenching the maul free of its old binds and letting the weight of its head carry him around, smashing aside two further Darkbeasts before he raised the weapon up high overhead, his spin ending perfectly to faace the Conjurer directly before him.

And the head of the maul came down towards its own.

The dragon shook his head at Analee's question.

“No, there is no way for you to willingly come here at your choosing. It is the will of Morpheus if we may meet, I think? Morpheus, the Deity of Dreams, is the true power of these dreams. If he wanted us to meet, there must have been a great necessity for this to happen.” Ikelos spoke, then noticed Miranda's displeasure, and then, the agent disappeared, awakening back into the real world. Ikelos looked back at Analee.

“I suppose it is time we leave. Perhaps, you are thinking that I can just grant you fathomless power in many disciplines, all at once, but if I were to do that, the extreme power of magic would surely rip your body apart. Your body, soul and mind need time to get used to your new power. I sense that your body is safe, for now, but if you have any questions, I am listening. It's rare I get visitors, so I am satisfied to chat.” Ikelos said, then yawned yet again, and waited patiently.

Miranda and Poca

When the Darkbeast first arrived, Poca called out to him, but he did nothing, just staying still. Poca was ready to do something, but did nothing, and several silhouettes arose, that of more Darkbeasts that had yet to materialize. The black and red fog continued growing. Miranda shouted what the Darkbeast wanted, but he just cocked his head, and did nothing. The silhouettes formed, and several more Darkbeasts appeared, big white eyes glowing. They did nothing. Midnight whined a little, and a raven croaked. The raven was Miranda's raven, which had been casually and quietly following along. As a few more silhouettes appeared, the Darkbeasts began walking sideways, arranging themselves in a loose circle around the two young women...

Gideon

More memories, images, ideas... he had this. He approached the Conjurator, and the other Darkbeasts who pounced upon him, failed, their shadowy weapons (usually extensions at their hands) and claws unable to bypass Gideon's guard or advance. He was quite the battering ram of an undead knight, using his armour as a weapon as well, and seemed to have knocked aside a young Prowler, as one of them had a muzzle, whereas typical Darkbeasts did not. Curved sword released, maul in hand, a pair of beasts were struck aside, then the Conjurator was targeted, hammerhead arching towards its head.

Preoccupied with his calling, the Conjurator made no attempt to defend itself, just staring back blankly, and the maul struck its head, its skull crushing inwards, and the Darkbeast went limp and fell onto its back.

Tsakirr continued utilizing his usual tactic of mixing dancing moves and psionics, but he was swarmed by several Darkbeasts. No matter; he unleashed swirling magic, which was not shadows but a sort of evil blackness, which lashed out or swarmed against the Darkbeasts, stifling their movements, and leaving them vulnerable to Tsakirr's swirling attacks.

Without a Conjurator, the remaining Darkbeasts began smoking, and the shadows slowly started disappearing, starting at the edges. From that, the Darkbeasts seemed weakened. One Darkbeast intended to pounce upon Tsakirr's back, but he spun around to face it, and unleashed a wave of psionics, hurling it across the air and under direct sunlight, beyond the darkness, where it vanished into smoke.

Gideon and Tsakirr finished-off the remaining Darkbeasts without too much problem, but the darkness remained, albeit was gradually diminishing. Tsakirr quickly and briefly lifted his chin, and the sword he dropped glowed blue, faded away, then reappeared in his free hand.
