Raven

Raven’s eyes shot open, a feeling of exuberance tremoring down her tired muscles. Something felt off, and down here, Raven had long come to trust her senses. But this didn’t feel like the malicious intent of the guard who so frequently came down to mock her, but instead, a somewhat complex intent she couldn’t recognise.

Momentarily mesmerised, the giggle brought Raven back into reality. Jumping to her feet, she raised a bandage-wrapped to blind against the brilliant lights of the silhouettes.

"Sally, get ready to strike the ship if they fire any cannons! The rest of you, head to the town!"

Emily got on her own mount, a young battle boar, and made for the port while taking out a crossbow. Both sides of the boar had different bolts for the weapon; the left side had normal bolts, and the right side had bolts with enchantments that allowed them to expel a special gas which harmed sinners. The latter came in useful when flushing invaders out of the ship before they got to dock, or from hiding spots, but they came in little supply so were used sparingly.

Seven of the guards met and stationed themselves around the town, setting up protective wards while keeping a watch for anything else that might attack. Some had bows, while others used swords or wands. The bowmen held healing potions just in case.

Sally was getting ready to turn into his Angel form, but wasn't going to just yet. And he couldn't make out the flag of the ship, but was prepared to launch a starlight barrage on it; he was on edge now. Was it the Barbary Pirates? Or the Bonoman State come to pillage or expand more? Could it be someone even worse? The tension ate away as the light emanating from him slowly intensified.

The remaining guards took up positions around the rest of the island, around farmland, in the woods, on coastlines, anywhere they could find, and in equal distances from each other. This would maximise protection for the rest of the island, and often caught out pirates that tried ambush tactics.

Emily held a horn between her teeth as she loaded her crossbow with the gas-emitting bolts, while looking to see if she could make out the flag. If they were the Barbary Pirates or Bonoman, Astriki could be in serious trouble. The mist was gradually giving way, and the starlight intensified by Sally would show the flag once it appeared...

Cape of Astriki – Salvatore

Due to the wealth generated by their vast trading networks, the Bonoman privateers would indeed be capable of affording some of the best weapons and armour of their locale, as well as purchasing from other traders from other cultures.

Captain Peacehaven—she obviously did not have a Hellenistic name—was considerate enough to even ask about Sally's nightmares.

Then, a ship was seen off in the distance, which Salvatore immediately reacted as if it was an enemy vessel of some sort, so mounted his unicorn, casting his bright magic, which meant those in the other ship would also see his magic. Amidst waves and darkness, it would be difficult to see if there were any other ships nearby. His astromancy was readying. The incoming ship was still a distance away, and would take some time before reaching the coastline.

Meanwhile, the town prepared itself, having a strong emphasis on magic. The town was ready to defend itself.

Back at the coast, Emily had mounted her battle boar and got her special crossbow ready. They waited for the worst. As the drifting fog cleared, and the starlight and moonlight shone, the ship was revealed to be much, much larger than anyone expected. It looked quite foreign, unlike anything anyone had probably ever seen: it was an atakebune, and had multiple flags showing the symbol of some foreign clan.

The atakebune was quite a lumbering warship, having a hull covered with iron plates, the front of the ship having a big dragon-decoration, and a tower was near the front of the deck. The ship was about two hundred feet long, had 180 oarsmen, and on-board would be at least a few hundred marines.

Such a huge ship was more of a floating fortress than a warship, absent of masts due to its supreme weight. It did not have any cannons, but would surely have many archers. As would be expected from a battleship-carrier, the atakebune prepared for a coastal attack. This did not look like a typical pirate raid!

Fortress Naamoth – Miranda and Poca

After dealing with the devilish robed creatures, the barracks now erupted into flames and the beings inside roasting and screaming from the ignited barrels of liquor, Miranda ''The Raven'' Banner went down the hallway that led to the outer bailey, popularly referred to as courtyard.

At the same time, inside on section of walls, Poca had shot a flaming arrow against one of the bases of a siege ladder that stuck out over a hole from outside. The arrow had whizzed amidst several Vaal'Amar and thudded against the top of the ladder's base, and not much happened. The little flame at the arrowhead caused some blackening of a square inch of wood, but it was not enough fire to ignite anything.

Shooting the arrow got the attention of a few dozen Vaal'Amar, who had finished incapacitating the elven soldiers, and many of the devils, upon seeing such easy prey, eagerly charged the 5'1'' 16-year-old.

Unable to defeat so many foes, Poca was forced to flee. She cast a blast of bright flames forth, which were so bright they blinded the Vaal'Amar at the front and burn them, as the flames flowed over their shields.

While some of the beasts were blinded for the moment, Poca shot an arrow and hit one of the devil's in the eye, arrowhead popping out the back of his head, then Poca put her supplies back into her backpack, put her backpack on, and ran away, swerving amidst weapons swung at her, and dove out the small hole she noticed earlier, a few devils trying to jump after her, but they could not fit through the hole.

Miranda observed the area, and saw a little elf guard-looking figure just jump out the back of a wall, through a hole, a short person wearing a mail shirt and an elven helmet (Poca). The figure plummeted a dozen feet or so before thudding against the top of the stables. Poca regained herself, and saw a raven standing beside her, the two staring at each other, and the raven croaked.

In the courtyard (the area inside the walls but outside the keep, the bailey) were several dozen elven soldiers with glaives or curved swords fought their devilish opponents, who had taken the walls and were rushing out the doors at the bottom of the tower stairwells.

Miranda and Poca observed that the fortress was simple, consisting of a square set of walls and a keep, the walls having their own walls and a ceiling to better protect those inside, and various wooden and stone buildings set against the inside of the walls. The stonework looked simple but effective, though not quite as pretty as one would expect from elven architecture. Outside the fortress were forests and small mountains in the horizon. It was sunset.

Poca and Miranda could see a siege tower just roll up to the gatehouse from outside, and hearing repeat ramming, the siege tower must have also been a battering ram, to allow the besiegers to pour atop the gatehouse while breaking through the gate. Archers were atop the siege tower, shooting arrows at the keep rather carelessly, but their arrows could not pierce elven plate armour.

Everyone felt the ground shake with a loud crash, suggesting that the attackers had catapults elsewhere that continued hurling boulders somewhere.

Miranda Banner and Poca both noticed one huge elf soldier, a big man with long red hair that hung down his backplate, and a heavy beard that sat against his breastplate like a mat. He wielded two glaives, one in each hand, and was constantly swinging them to and fro, sometimes fighting multiple creatures at the same time without any problem. He was nearby the gatehouse, alone, fending off very many foes at the same time.

The two girls observed that a majority of the devilish beings fought savagely, unsurprisingly, sometimes throwing themselves upon glaives while trying to block them with their shields, but if they ended up being stuck by a glaive, they continued swinging their weapons while the glaives were in their bodies, howling and growling.

“Fall back into the keep! There are too many Vaal'Amar!” an elf soldier shouted, and judging by his gilded armour, must have been a captain. At his command, the elves fought while moving backwards, some elves being swarmed and taken off their feet, piled, and had knives rammed into the gaps of their armour.

The stables were at the other side of the fortress, but there were too many of the devilish beings (the Vaal'Amar) in the way. However, some elven soldiers would be unable to escape into the keep, so the few groups of a few elves along the courtyard stood their ground, surrounded, and with no means of escape, were forced to fight to the death.

However, this also meant that, in their bloodlust, the devilish creatures were currently preoccupied with the elves; since Miranda wore black cloth that covered most of her body, the Vaal'Amar seemed to think she was one of them, but this would not last forever. Poca saw Miranda and knew she was not a devil; since Poca was atop the stables, she had a vantage point, allowing her to shoot arrows or cast pyromancy at the enemies below if she intended to help Miranda reach the stables...

Witch's Hut

Talarin sighed with relief when Analee went to sit down. It was his idea to come here, but he obviously seemed to have a change of heart! He nervously awaited something to happen, but as long as Buruk was next to Analee, they'd be safe. Bane sat gently and waited, sometimes cocking his head to look at the spiders walking around. Analee then spoke her plight, briefly looking at Talarin, who nodded, trying to encourage the girl.

Once Analee finished speaking, the witch suddenly stopped rocking in her chair with a thud, and the hag's head made a cracking noise, and she looked at Analee. Amidst candlelight, Analee could see that the witch had very pale, milky white eyes, and so was probably blind, yet the witch was staring right at her. Analee did not know why, but she just stared back, feeling a little nervous. The witch looked spooky, with her thin wiry hair, cracked skin, skinny face, and overall witchy look.

“Dahkbeasts...” the witch hissed, then made a slight grin, revealing her crooked, but long, teeth. “They ain't within mih powah.” the witch replied; Talarin's heart sank. “But... lemme tell ya more 'bout 'em, as ya don't know much about dem, do yo?” the witch continued, her farmer's accent really showing.

“I think they're, like, spirits from the netherworld, or something like that.” Talarin chirped suddenly before Analee could say anything; he really didn't like being here.

“Hihhh...” the witch hissed, “let ol' Mama Carmen tell ye two a lil' story. Dahkbeasts... they be beings from the netherworld, but they ain't demons. They souls that ended up in purgatory, a place of dahkness and shadowwws... their souls are trapped within shells of dahkness.” she explained, then closed her eyes, thinking, and the crystal ball on the table lit up. “They be fightin' with themselves now... they thirst for magic power, which is how they decide who rules who. They only kneel before the strongest. They must've attacked your people, 'cause they wanna steal someones specific, someones they know is powaful.” the witch said, then she coughed a little, and relaxed, then looked back at Analee. “Do you really wanna know wha' ta do about it? Or, do ya need more questions, or stories?”

Raven

Yes, this had to be something different. Raven, having been trapped in darkness for so long, had eyes sensitive to brightness, so she used a wrap to block the damn lights.

“Ha! Eh-heh-heh-heh-heh!” the same voice giggled, this time with a vibrato effect in her voice. “Having bad dreams?” the voice asked, the voice gentle, light, childish, and very girly, and had a strange hollowness to it, as if the person was speaking through a glass tube or something. Raven heard the silhouettes of the things moving, but they did not advance on her, unlike what the dream depicted...

“Hey, you...” the hollow girly voice asked curiously, and Raven could somewhat see that someone was in front of her.

The girl before Raven appeared to be some sort of devilish creature, possessing a rather big head, a large pair of horns, and a snake-like tail longer than she was tall, but she was absent of wings. The girl had claws at the hands and feet. She seemed to be wearing a kilt-like garment, and was, apparently, levitating to be level with Raven's face.

The girl was peculiar, in that her hairdo was a tall Mohawk, but she also had a long narrow ponytail that reached her waist. She was also covered with orange tattoos, as if some sort of acidic substance was etched into her skin to form intricate patterns and lines, mapping her skin with runic-like imagery.

Overall, the girl was rather typical for a demon, but had bright baize skin that slightly glowed and so revealed her appearance. She also had extremely long pointy ears, big eyes with dark blue glowing irises, the veins under her skin and the veins in her eyeballs glowed red. She had a little nose, small mouth, full cheeks, and a fleshy, rounded face. Her big round eyes gazed at Raven greedily, face eager, as if beholding a treasure.

Suddenly, the demonic girl spun to the side, waving her arm aside angrily, shouting, “Close your eyes, idiots! You're blinding her!” and at that, the silhouettes closed their eyes. Now, the only source of light was the girl's glowing baize skin. She looked back at Raven.

“You're not like the other prisoners... you've been betrayed—no, sacrificed—for your friend to achieve ascendancy, whereas you became something lesser, but you are actually... Ha! I think like you, I really do.” the girl said, crossing her arms and leaning back in her levitation, then titled her head and smirked, as if wanting to say something, but decided to observe what would happen next...

Raven had a feeling that this devilish girl was a psionic, and probably a powerful one at that.

Analee- witch hut

After Analee spoke, she sat there and waited for a response from the witch. Slowly, the witch stopped rocking and turned her head towards Analee, staring at her. Analee couldn't help but stare back at the milky white eyes of the witch. She was most likely blind. Everything about the witch made her seem spooky and mysterious, and that alone made Analee feel uneasy.

Suddenly, the witch broken the silence and spoke. Analee listened to every word as she spoke. As she paused, the crystal ball lit up, catching Analees attention. She gazed at it. For some reason, she felt the need to move towards it, like it was calling to her. Slowly she got up out of the chair and approached the crystal ball as the witch continued to talk.

Analee paused briefly when she said they were after powers. Not everyone in this world had powers, and she alone was the only one to have powers within her tribe. Was it her fault that her people were taken? Analee felt her heart break at the thought.

"Do you know how we can get my people back?" She asked the witch. Right after she asked, Analee placed her hands in the crystal ball. She didn't know if anything would happen but she felt the need that she needed it touch it.
