Backstory (continued): The citizens of Astriki face persistent attacks from dark forces overseas in the night, and the Holy Order of St. Ambrose asked the boy, who they had named Sally after he told them he couldn't remember his name, to aid in the protection of the island's community. After decades of defending the people, their community thrived and began trading abroad. But recently, the order began undertaking slightly shadier tasks than their usual coastal defence against the shadows, making expeditions to 'tackle the threats at the source.'

Sally and Nightstar have noticed how strange it seemed that the Order had taken an invasive course instead of standing their ground and protecting the people, and now he faces great tests against his faith, his beliefs, and his desire to protect people. And he may yet face inner demons that, along with his memories, abandoned him who knows how long ago...

Nightstar had been captured by dark orcs working for a deadly Mavromancer who was out to conquer the world, and was being shipped over from the east when the crate she was in fell overboard and broke open on a rock. She luckily landed on rocky reefs and cantered across before wading over shallow waters onto the coast, and collapsed. She was rescued by Sally after being washed ashore on Astriki, and after being nursed back to health. Since then she has stayed by his side, and served in aiding the coastal defence of Astriki by letting Sally know some bits of enemies invading the island.

Analee

Buruk walking along, and Bane out forth to scout, everything seemed alright.

Auryllac nodded.

“Hm, I think my son played with you when you were young, I don't know if he'd remember you since then. Well, for you it'd be easy to remember a dark elf, but we'll find out sooner or later. My son's a bit like me, we have good memories, just not about people. Ha, that's why I'm always outside in the woods.” the dark elf said.

Analee's psychic abilities allowed her to find out a few useful bits of information.

First, she could read Auryllac's mind and got some memory of his son. His son was basically a small version of him, a lad named Talarin. Analee was unsure if she truly remembered him, but she did sense that Talarin, unlike many Dark Elves, had short blonde hair, green eyes, and was somewhat of a self-absorbed fellow. He wasn't a bad person, but just thought very good of himself, and was a bit of a snob at times, but still a nice guy. He would be at least a year younger than Analee. Like his father, Talarin Satlagean had a chiselled face, his youth keeping facial features smooth, and was slightly taller than average, but not as tall as his dad, yet. Like most Dark Elves, Talarin exhibited extremely wide eyebrows, which arched out passed the sides of the head, though Auryllac seemed to have trimmed his eyebrows for a more convenient approach to hunting in the woods.

The Wood Elf sensed that Auryllac's people, the Vrisostomo Clan, were good foresters, and unlike most other Dark Elves, actually made long treks into other territories for trade. They also occasionally traded with the Voivoders, Vikings, and even Khaners. However, like most Dark Elves, the Vrisostomo were quite feral compared to most elves, and judging by Auryllac's memories, the Dark Elves at times resorted to banditry and even raiding. It was best to stay on their good side.

Auryllac was not necessarily her father's friend, but they did knew each other since before she was born. Her father set-up trade and sought to improve political relations with the Vrisostomo Clan. Overall, Auryllac and his son Talarin were both trustworthy, and neither knew Analee was a psionic. At that thought, Analee remembered that her psionic abilities granted her the power to unleash brief pulses or waves of forceful mind-power, conjure illusions for lesser folk, or even make herself appear to be someone else to an individual. She also had the power of mental projection, and could literally cause items to appear or vanish from the real world, as if a memory.

Bane did not make much noise, flying around overhead, keeping an eye out, but he did screech and swoop down towards Analee. Buruk sniffed the air. Analee had a feeling there was something up ahead, and memories of her nightmare swirled in her thoughts again. Something was coming for her, that much she sensed...

* * *

The Darkbeast stood still. They were rare beings to behold. Analee's father was afraid, and rightfully so, for the Darkbeasts could travel through shadows, even jump into and disappear into shade, then jump out at another area with shadows.

Suddenly cocking his head with an audible crack, the Darkbeast slowly raised an arm, pointing to the side, without moving his torso or head. The Darkbeast seemed to be pointing in the direction where Analee's father sent the elves to search for Analee. Was this a warning? Was the creature pointing towards a trap? The Darkbeast's eyes began twitching, blinking repeatedly...

Analee sensed something was wrong. She did not know how or why, but she felt her mind seeing through the eyes of her father, yet at the same time, she felt as though she herself was standing nearby, and that a shadowy being was pointing at her without looking at her. She saw what her father saw, realizing that the shadows around the Darkbeast grew, until more and more trees and the ground became black, as if under the effect of night. Analee knew her father was afraid, and stood motionless.

The Darkbeast slowly turned his head but kept it cocked, as if staring at Analee, her father still afraid. The shadows continued growing, even under sunlight, the blackness soon affecting the air itself, then casting black fog mixed with red colours above ground level.

Bright whiteness emanated from within the Darkbeast's eyes, and he had an aura of whiteness emanating from behind him. Black rays beamed out around his head, as if reflections of blackness from sunlight. Folklore said that the brightness was the soul trapped inside a Darkbeast trying to escape, but other legends proclaimed that the soul of a Darkbeast was in fact that of a fallen angel, and so the Darkbeasts were a mix of dark and light, evil and good. The whiteness was a soul, the blackness its evil, and the redness in the fog the Darkbeast's yearning for blood. Analee realized that the Darkbeasts had targeted her village. What should she do? The Darkbeast would charge at any moment.

As they walked, vision appeared to Analee of Auryllac son. He looked familiar to her, but any memories they may have had were gone. They had played together when younger. Was he around when she was attacked? Memories of that day were forgotten or atleast buried away long ago. Maybe from shock?

Analee allowed the vision to fade away. No one but her father and her mother knew about her ability. She tried not to use it on anyone she trusted but sometimes it happened on its on.

As they walked, a feeling overcame Analee, her nightmare flooding her mind once again. Something was coming for her, something dark. She stopped in her tracks, not saying a word. Suddenly the forest and Auryllac that was once before her slowly vanished, being replaced by what her father saw. Before her stood a darkbeast, pointing at her.

Her breathing began to grow faster. This beast was from her nightmares. The shadows before her began to grow, surrounding the area around it. She knew the legends of the darkbeast but that's what they were, legend. Was her father in danger? Her people? She would never get there in time.

Analee dropped to her knees as she watched through her fathers eyes. Tears slowly began to slide down her cheek. Without knowing, she was calling out to her father. Auryllac would hear and see her.
-----

Analees father watched as the darkbeast pointed in the direction that he just sent the search party in. He looked in that direction. Were they in danger? He did not know.

((I'm ok if something happens to her father and people. Helps build a story and a mission etc.))

When Analee was overcome by the vision and started shouting her father's name, Auryllac spun around, taking out his recurve bow and looking around, and Buruk started barking and prancing about, but the dark elf saw nothing.

“What's wrong!” Auryllac shouted, stepping closer to Analee, bending hid knees a little to stay a bit low, expecting something.

Suddenly, some sort of small creature emerged from Analee's shadow, grabbing her by the neck from behind and pulling her down to her knees in the ensuing struggle, and immediately Buruk growled and bit the thing's leg, shaking his head side to side, causing the thing to shriek and let go of Analee. Bane swooped down and started clawing at the creature's eyes with his talons, and Buruk pawed and gnawed, thrashing the shadowy creature as it thudded its arms against the wolf's back, but Buruk was quite the tough animal, and he pulled the creature off its feet, then continuing biting it.

Auryllac had jumped to action, dropping his bow and withdrawing his axe, and wondering what the hell just happened. Some sort of lanky creature made of shadows, with glowing white eyes, had attacked Analee, a Darkbeast, but this one was quite short and had very long arms. With Buruk biting its leg and keeping it down, Auryllac stepped forth and swung his axe into the Darkbeast's head, the axe cutting into the skull, but the Darkbeast was quite tough, and continued struggling. It was peculiar, in that it did not cast its own shadow.

Analee snapped out of her odd trance, and she could seeing more Darkbeasts arriving, various sections of the forest darkening, even the spot where she stood, the shadows growing even under sunlight. Black and red fog emerged from the growing shadows.

By the sounds of it, Auryllac and Buruk had finished-off the first Darkbeast, the dark elf cleaving its head asunder, then he put his axe away, picked up his bow, and noticing the Darkbeasts emerging from the shadowy areas.

Without thinking, he started shooting arrows while walking forwards, hearing the arrows thudding against the Darkbeasts' bodies.

“Don't know what the hell these things are, but we better keep moving while shooting at them!” Auryllac suggested; he did not know that Darkbeasts had targeted Analee's village either. Analee, Buruk and Bane would have to press onward, and fight their way through the emerging Darkbeasts before too many came!

Wolf,
As Analee fights through the Darkbeats, you can control this scene entirely.
Freshly emerged Darkbeasts are weakened and blinded by the sun, especially by direct sunlight.
The Darkbeasts do not have any weapons or armour, so they have no means to protect themselves from attacks, especially while emerging from the ground; Buruk can bite their legs while Analee shoots arrows at their heads.
The Darkbeast that attacked Analee is a 'Jumper', the others cannot emerge as quickly and are much slower; Jumpers can emerge from peoples' own shadows.

* * *

The Darkbeast that had emerged leaned forwards and shook its head, still pointing to the side, but it then began tilting its head side to side quickly and repeatedly. It then reared, spreading his arms, and let off a flanged howl that echoed in the forest. The howl had a piercing effect, and caused Analee's father's ears to ring sharply and painfully.

Then, several more Darkbeasts began crawling out the darkness around the first Darkneast, these ones larger and having long claws at the fingers and toes, but they could only crawl. The first Darkbeast that emerged then got into a sprint suddenly, shrieking while shaking his head, and dove at the father. By the sounds of shouting from elsewhere, the other villagers had noticed other Darkbeasts; the village was under attack!

Salvatore – Prologue

He dreamt of the world, consumed by red fog. Everything was in ruins, enshrouded by red fog, and as he wandered the streets, he saw countless people nailed into buildings, so numerous, the buildings were covered with bodies writhing in agony. Upon closer examination, he realized all the people had been skinned, and smoke flowed out the buildings. Soon, the buildings caught fire, flames flicking out windows, the skinless victims nailed into the homes starting to suffocate and burn as well.

Unable to control himself, his dream made him flee, and he ran around a corner. The next street led to a stone path covered with blood, this street slanted downwards, and he slipped in the blood, and started sliding down the street, slowly, but unable to stop himself from sliding. The street led to a large gutter with a huge metal gate, leading to sewers, where so much blood flowed into and gurgled.

The further he slid down the bloody street, the louder the gurgling sounded, the gate repeatedly opening and closing, clanking loudly, and more and more blood gushed down the street, the sounds of smoke, flames and moaning victims growing louder and louder. Something crawled from behind the gate, and literally pulled the gate off its hinges, throwing it aside.

Crawling forth from behind the gate was some sort of monster, looking like an immense suit of armour, literally twenty feet tall, but in the shape of a woman's body, very thin but very long, and every time she exhaled, blood drizzled out her visor. The armour was designed to look like a human body, covered with grooves to resemble a nervous system. The visor was in shape of a woman's face, the face forged as if looking like it was in shock. Anywhere the armour had openings, such as at the eye holes of the visor, under the arms, the groin, behind the knee, white light beamed out.

The suit of armour had a white halo above its head, the halo constantly dripping blood everywhere, and the armour had a pair of white feathery wings, gently flapping and constantly dripping blood. The angelic knight only crawled, gauntlets having spikes at the knuckles and the fingers terminating into short claws. The angelic knight crawled up the street without any problem, the flowing blood rushing through it. She was the Angel of Death, an entity as holy as she was destructive, as merciful and she was cruel, a being lost in the extremes of morality...

Suddenly, he felt himself slide down the street as if falling, and fell into a lake of blackness. Wondering what was going on, he floated through the blackness, seeing stars appearing here and there. As more and more stars appeared, they were revealed to look like innumerable eyeballs in the night sky, irises twinkling like stars, and every single one stared at him. Then, he gradually saw galaxies appearing here and there, which then gradually were revealed to be vast stretches or veins, hearts, brains, spleens, and other internal organs, like masses of guts flying along. All the eyes gazed at him, expecting him to sacrifice something, but what?

He then noticed something. He looked down, and saw an alicorn, and a lot of blood that had pooled where he stood...

Blackness came back, and eventually, it faded away, revealing a mighty castle of dark granite. He found himself before a giant executioner in black armour, a huge man bedecked in the blackest armour he had ever seen, and wielding a giant, single-edged blade with a curved tip, looking like it could chop anything asunder. The executioner had just slowly stood up, standing at perhaps ten feet tall, a Half-giant?
