"So, what's your business with Kerr?" asked Teegan, trying to see if this man was friend or foe and making tea at the same time.

"Forgive me, I did not introduce myself," said the man, languidly holding out a hand to shake without getting up. "I am called Sukrae, and you?"

"Oh, I'm Teegan," said Teegan, shaking his hand and wondering why the heck she had told him her name.

"Are you a friend of Kerr's?" she asked.

"I am afraid I cannot count being Kerr's friend as one of my accomplishments," said the man.

No, not just "the man" -- his name was Sukrae, she corrected herself.

"I have a few things to settle with Kerr," Sukrae went on. "And you? You're not really his cleaning lady, are you?"

Sukrae hid a smile as he watched the girl think up a response; his question had taken her by surprise and she was obviously trying to think of something to say next.

Sukrae decided he liked her; the "cleaning lady" explanation wasn't one he had ever heard before, and if he hadn't been monitoring Kerr's house for the last week, it would have seemed to be true.

"Well no, not really," said Teegan, figuring she might as well tell him. "How did you know?"

"Well, you haven't been here for the last week anyway, you don't have a duster or a broom, the dishes in the sink are dirty, and this room is completly covered in dust, so if you were a cleaning lady you'd be a very bad one."

"Sheesh," said Teegan, fidgeting slightly, "I didn't think it was that bad of an excuse."

"It wasn't," Sukrae grinned. "I actully think it was a pretty good one."

Teegan, however, turned away from him and began to talk to the bed.

"Taena!" she called, "you might as well come out now, there's probably no point hiding any more."

Sukrae watched in amazement as the bed began to shake slightly and another girl, much the same as the first, crawled out from under it. She was even more dusty than Teegan and had small balls of dust in her hair.

"Hello," said this apparition, giving him a charming smile. "My name is Taena, I'm Teegan's sister."

"Um ... hello," said Sukrae, regaining his composure, "my name is Sukrae." He cleared his throat. "Um, why were you under the bed?"

Taena looked at him sheepishly.

"Well, we thought you might be somebody dangerous and we figured the safest place to hide was under the bed."

"Yes... I see," said Sukrae (who didn't really). "But if you don't mind me asking, why are either one of you here in the first place?"

"That rotten, stinking, excuse for a.....," began Taena, but was interrupted by Teegan who, seeing her sister going into an anti-Kerr rant as she had been doing every once in a while as they were traveling to Miskinton, wisely broke in.

"Kerr did something, right now we are not sure what, to Taena's boyfriend, Brant."
