What indeed did she have to say? It seemed that there was little being decided now, as Elatha and Bastet - the ones speaking, and therefore the ones in charge of the flow of the discussion - were unable to come up with a single course of action. In a conference like this, such a thing was common, and they had reached the point where everyone would voice their opinion and the majority would likely get their way. Judging by the opinions already placed on the table, someone was going to be unhappy by the end of this, but that was an unavoidable consequence of working with many people.

As she considered what to say, another of the gods spoke, his voice conjuring in her mind the images of raging skies over a fierce melee below. The fight wasn't focused on the fight itself, however, but rather in the individuals that made it up, each of them different yet embodying the same elements that made them what they were. Although she paid the images little attention, instead focused on her own thoughts, they did provide enough insight to let her know what he was a god of.

"
If we could find the Fates, then going there would make the most sense. Those with knowledge, although not always willing to share it, are more useful to those seeking it than other seekers.
" she commented thoughtfully. "
Yet unless any of you have a reliable plan to do so, we are better suited to find mortal envoys, and I suggest we do this. They are easier to seek out, and while they are less useful in a situation such as this they will be a more stable choice.
"

Finding the Fates would be more effective in gaining knowledge - should the Fates be willing to share - but it was unreliable unless any of them could actually find their target. It was difficult for her to influence mortals, as none directly worshiped her, but that was different for everyone else here. Mortal agents may be a lesser piece in the game, but they could change how a story went nonetheless.

Still only having the vaguest understanding of what was going on, Sol chooses to remain silent for now, thinking over what he did know. It seemed that two of the people, were debating on which course of action that they should all take. The strange looking woman who seemed to live in this place and call them all here, something he eventually concluded, seemed to want to do something regarding mortals. While he wasn't sure what mortals were, he was sure that the people he was amongst weren't such things.

The other main speaker meanwhile, seemed to want to go after something called the Fates. This, was something he was a little more familiar with. After all, fate was what someone was meant to do, or something that was meant to happen. And it was a common word amongst his people, often relating towards the good things that had happened to them in their lives. They would often say that such things were fated to have occurred. He had believed, correctly, that it was his fate to bring light to his people. And he did do it, just not in a way that he expected.

So, there were two paths that they all had the option to choose. And while one of the people, a strong looking dark skinned man, seemed to just pledge his support regardless; the woman who sat on a book seemed to want to search for mortals, whatever they were. Not really wanting to stand out right now, after all he still wanted to gain more information, he decided to align with the current opinion that seemed to be winning.

"I help," he says after coming out of his thoughts. Then, in a more curious tone, "First what are mortals?"

Nyx's imitation bounced off of Abo like a whip bounced off of flayed skin, yet there was no cut to Abo-Cocazo. This god was like many of the others, young, angry, filled with the emotions of mortals as though emulating them would in turn empower their godliness. A misleading assumption. Abo-Cocazo had seen the darkest sides of human nature, and knew it for what it truly was. Bestial, monstrous. Denial of such was to live a lie. Nyx's failure to see the universe for what it was did not bother the slaver god much, for in the end, human nature always won out. And they were all by-products of human nature.

When humanity turns Nyx into something abhorrent, then he would understand.

The slave god allowed the conversation to continue, wherein the goddess Eleria proved herself to be the most capable of prolonged speech. Abo-Cocazo was less inclined that way, yet she too had been prompted to give an opinion, so give one she would.

"These elder gods are Beyond us," she observed. The truth or untruth of the matter of the existence of this 'first' and 'second' was up for debate, but if everything that had been said was true, then Abo could only see one end to this story. "Why must we do anything? If the Eonfold is dictated by Higher Powers, then we are but slaves to their whims. Our actions are, ultimately, meaningless." Abo knew much and more about meaningless actions. Slaves often underwent meaningless actions in order to reach freedom, to no avail. Slavers would also give out pointless cruelty, which would in the end not aid them in the slightest, but only give them the satisfaction that they have made some sort of profound impact. To a slave, the actions of individual slavers is moot. All are evil.

In this scenario, it seemed that the gathered gods were both slaves and slavers. Slaves to the First and Second, the Story, Fate and Existence. But they were also the Slavers, believing that by meddling with humanity, something might change.

But nothing has ever changed...

“The Story was written a long time ago,” Basete* said “To govern the worlds and lives of the mortal beings,” she looked at Sol. *Things that measure their life in years. They are without our powers, or perception of the Eonfold. They are subjects to the Story. While our kind appears here and there in the Story it is not ultimately ours. We have opportunities to work outside of it, some believe. And more importantly, the ending, while already penned down, is not clear. That is why the First and Second are able to wager on it. And even influence it, perhaps.”

“The problem is,* sighed Elatha. “No one knows when those opportunities arise, if ever. And no one knows if any of us younger gods are able to interact with the story as our elders supposedly can.”

“But we must try,” said Bast resolutely. “For whichever elder god wins the bet… will be given the ultimate prize.”

“Which is….?” Elatha asked.

“I have my theories,” the cat goddess mused. “My guess is some kind of power over the other. The Second wants to see the mortals fail,” again, she looked to Sol. “Which would bring about our own doom, for we depend on them to exist,” she explained. “I would not want such a force to grow even stronger.”

“That is why we must act, my dear,” Elatha said, leaning over the arm of his chair to look at Abo. “Because if we do not…” he paused. He could feel something. Another arrival?

He looked to Bastet who had stood from her throne. He was certain that the goddess would feel the new presence much more strongly in her own realm than the others. A look of concern fell on her face.
“Someone is trying to walk into my realm,” she announced suddenly. “They are not asking… and they are invited.”

A huge crack split across the floor of the chamber, running under one of the pots of burning incense, knocking it to the floor.

“They are trying to break in!” exclaimed Bastet.

“Who?* Elatha asked as he stood as well.

Her face strained. The curtains around the chamber billowed. She made an attempt to seal the crack in her chamber, but she was weaker than this unseen foe and the crack split and branched off in other directions.
*I cannot identify them,” she grunted as the room began to grow darker. Outside, her many cats could be heard, hissing and roaring. “But they mean to harm us!”

Bast was quickly becoming pale. A sail like curtain became ripped from the wall and ceiling- turning to ribbons of torn fabric as Bast fell to her knees. “I cannot bar them!” she cried. *They are coming in!” she cried before a darkness burst into the room from the doorway, filling it with hissing and howling sounds, and flooding the room with shadows and blackness.

While Sol was given an answer to his question of what mortals were, the full meaning of it still escaped him. While he did not exactly understand what years were, the mention of measuring their life in it told him that it was a way to tell the passing of time. For his people, the passage of time was generally based on a generation, so when someones young would have young of their own. Heck, he had only had these powers for a current generation. And from what he could remember, he had only been alive a little more then a generation.

This of course, brought him to the second point that Baset mentioned, that they had powers while mortals didn't. This lead him to think of his people, as none of them were capable of doing the things he was. And some part of him doubted that they ever would. So, did that make them mortals? And if so, what was he to them, since he apparently depended on them to exist.

These were just some of the few thoughts going on in Sol's head before he felt something. It was like a slight pressure was being applied to his whole body. While he doesn't notice the tone of Baset's voice, the huge crack suddenly appearing in the floor is enough to call into action his instincts. Quickly jumping out of the way of the crack, he withdraws his duel swords from his back.

A quick glance at Baset shows that she is clearly panicking at whatever is happening, and the darkening of the room begins to bring Sol's tension to an even higher level. Gripping his blades tightly, they soon begin to glow in a white light as he channels his power into them. When the doors eventually burst and darkness begins to flood the room he is quick to act.

The brightness of the light being given off by his blades kicks up a notch, and his own body begins to glow a bright light as well. He then swings his blades at the oncoming darkness, instincts telling him that creatures were within, and two arcs of pure light slash off of them into the darkness as he returns to a combat stance.

Meaningless? Perhaps they would not change anything in the overarching story and would never have an impact beyond ourselves, but to declare something as meaningless is incorrect. For something to be meaningless, it needs to have no effect at all, and that is an impossibility.
" Eleria commented, the bright expression on her face even while she delivered what was comparable to a lecture. Was she attempting to make a correcting or was she simply speaking to bring about a discussion? Even she didn't know. It was simply in her nature to do such a thing.

"
You see,
" she continued, "
everything has an effect no matter what it is. Does a slave who fails to escape accomplish anything? It can be argued that they do, for many slavers will make their lives worse when they try. Yet even if they do not, and the slave returns to the same life with no changes to what they did, their actions still had meaning simply because they altered the course of that one individual. That alteration may only be momentary, only changing that one moment, yet it did do something. It has meaning, even if the meaning is not significant in any way.
"

While continuing this line of discussion would be something Eleria would readily do for hours, days, or even years, it seemed none in this room were particularly open to it at this point in time. It was a pity, as the viewpoints of different deities were always fascinating to listen to. Each one was an aspect of mortals, and yet their viewpoints would always differ just slightly from the mortals that they held dominion over. She had spoken with both groups at length about such matters, and never stopped hearing something new. There would always be someone that held a slightly different view, something she could listen to and see in a new light.

Indeed, the discussions of business once again filled the room, and although she could listen to that as well without becoming bored - everyone had differing opinions about plans of action, after all - it wasn't quite the same. Interestingly enough, the discussions were cut short by something else, and that something else was what she had expected to show up eventually: a hostile force of some kind. They couldn't have a meeting like this without drawing the attention of someone who wished the opposite from what they did, and destruction was the preferred method to deal with such a group. That was if history was any indication, at least, and it usually was.

As Sol began to take defensive actions, Eleria remained seated on the book. It was the book itself that moved, levitating off the throne and moving to a point at a slightly higher elevation several feet away. She didn't take any real actions yet, waiting for the enemies to make themselves known in some way first. The darkness was certainly a first step in this, but it wasn't enough to make her do...something. Besides, she worked in a slightly different manner than most combatants, and that manner didn't typically favor head-on charges.

Name: Randell

Gender: So far Randell have always appeared to others as Male

Age: Old

Affiliation: Technology and progress.

Form: Randell usually takes the form of a mid 20s male with pale skin and silver hair. This form has a rather average height by human standards and wears black robes with silver trimming as well as a mechanical right arm that is dark grey in colour.

Powers: He can alter the efficiency of machines to the point where a completely rusted and ill-maintained machine can work perfectly fine and vice versa. He also possesses great, even by god standards, technical knowledge concerning physical science, both mortal sciences and technical knowledge most other gods would take years to understand.

His weapons are a throwing spear that he recently developed, it explodes in contact with enemies and then it would rebuild itself in his hands, also it homes in on enemies, although its maneuverability is not perfect.

He also has a trio of flying 'drones', the first is a triangle that can shoot out a beam of light and the focus of it is controlled by its master, Randell uses it usually to weld things. The second is a circle that sprays out water, or if the needs call for it, liquid nitrogen, Randell uses this one to cool down things such as machines (of course). The third is a square, to grab things by causing items to levitate under it, it can carry a surprising amount of weight for its small size, it can even carry a human and still retain most of its speed.

Realm: A underground complex called Olu*u, it is located within a mountain surrounded by an endless mountain range covered in snow.

Subjects: A human-like race only known as "Emplos" by Randell, there are two varieties, sient*, who are always in Hazmat suits with opaque visors and go around handling the smaller parts of Randell's projects and constructing prototypes and the Secits, always dressed in full combat gear from head to toe and wear distinctive gas masks. They are usually armed w

automatic crossbows (not assault rifles, only in emergencies do they use it) and swords.

Acolytes: Maxohn, he runs the day-to-day management of Oluzu and appears as a blue sphere with other forms like pyramids floating around it, and occasionally four-dimensional shapes as well.

Source of worship: Anything that has to do with research, engineering and intellectual progress benefit Randell the same way prayer benefits other gods, though each individual activity does not benefit him as much, which is made up for due to the huge amount of it that happens, especially on earth.

Backstory: Not much, he is often busy designing new items at Oluzu so most of his history is rather mundane and he does not see other gods often.

Other: None

((I hope this isn't OP by god standard, note his knowledge is limited to things like Science, engineering etc.))
