Bastet offered a small grin of entertainment to Nyx as she waved a hand dismissively. “Do behave,” she chuckled. Sitting higher now, she looked then to Torig. “I think don’t know if that is a judgment you can make,” she said. “Or that any of us could, for that matter. The tales of our kind say that They are sleeping in their realms. If the Second is working to destroy humanity, It does it from Its dreams… a possibility of course…” she mused. “But I find something else far more likely.”
“Someone is acting on behalf of the Second,” Elatha said for the cat-goddess. “A god like us.”
“Such is my theory,” Bastet said. “Though I must admit… I was hoping that our company would be more* prepared* she said, looking at the gods around her, pausing to examine Sol with some interest.
*You’d hoped for someone like Jupiter or Amaterasu to be here,” Elatha said.
Gods like them were the lords of their pantheons. They demanded respect and boasted far more significant power than anyone in the room.
“I had, yes,” the goddess answered. “But they were not chosen for this meeting, and I must believe that this task… for now, at least, is not theirs.”
“Nor is it ours, do you not think,” asked Elatha. *Not entirely.”
“You’re quite right,” said Bastet thoughtfully. “This Story was never about us. It was about the mortal world. If there is anyone we need the help of. It is them.”
“Weak, absent-minded things,” Elatha scoffed. He had a love for humanity. They sustained him after all, and he could not deny that they had desirable characteristics. But they were so often petty and wicked… and never very intelligent.
“We might be wise to find the best of them,” Bastet said. “Make alliances with them. Assure them that they can trust US, before whatever nefarious foe we are dealing with goes to them.”
