Torig fiddled with one of his throne's cushions as he struggled to get comfortable in dry desert air. He felt as if he was being buffeted by a torrent of sand whenever he moved, even though they were inside.

He watched the other gods arrive, and contemplated on their affiliations as he watched them take seats on the thrones. He mused on the juxtaposition of humanity, and how it created the varied pantheon of gods that were assembled in Bastet's palace.

He listen to Shango's analysis on the situation and thought on it for a moment, listening to the dry, arid desert air blowing through the thin silk curtains.

"If it is the First or the Second we must go against, I strongly doubt that even us all combined could match the might of even one of them. What I don't know is why not just kill us all off? There must be some sort of order, otherwise the power of either one of Them could overwhelm all of us at once." He said, thumping his fist down onto the cool stone of the throne and looking about the room.

Bastet offered a small grin of entertainment to Nyx as she waved a hand dismissively. “Do behave,” she chuckled. Sitting higher now, she looked then to Torig. “I think don’t know if that is a judgment you can make,” she said. “Or that any of us could, for that matter. The tales of our kind say that They are sleeping in their realms. If the Second is working to destroy humanity, It does it from Its dreams… a possibility of course…” she mused. “But I find something else far more likely.”

“Someone is acting on behalf of the Second,” Elatha said for the cat-goddess. “A god like us.”

“Such is my theory,” Bastet said. “Though I must admit… I was hoping that our company would be more* prepared* she said, looking at the gods around her, pausing to examine Sol with some interest.

*You’d hoped for someone like Jupiter or Amaterasu to be here,” Elatha said.
Gods like them were the lords of their pantheons. They demanded respect and boasted far more significant power than anyone in the room.

“I had, yes,” the goddess answered. “But they were not chosen for this meeting, and I must believe that this task… for now, at least, is not theirs.”

“Nor is it ours, do you not think,” asked Elatha. *Not entirely.”

“You’re quite right,” said Bastet thoughtfully. “This Story was never about us. It was about the mortal world. If there is anyone we need the help of. It is them.”

“Weak, absent-minded things,” Elatha scoffed. He had a love for humanity. They sustained him after all, and he could not deny that they had desirable characteristics. But they were so often petty and wicked… and never very intelligent.

“We might be wise to find the best of them,” Bastet said. “Make alliances with them. Assure them that they can trust US, before whatever nefarious foe we are dealing with goes to them.”

With better seats than the record-keeping tome available, Eleria readily stood up and took a seat in the proffered throne. However, perhaps contrary to all reason, she decided to place the book down on the throne before she sat, elevating herself to a height that was still less than any of the adult-form gods that had decided to come along. Stature wasn't exactly her strong point, especially since she insisted on remaining in a form that had no real stature at all.

Strangely enough, they were joined by a being that appeared to be an entirely new god. Apart from being entirely unaccustomed to this place, it seemed he didn't even know where he was. Eleria had seen an occurrence such as this a few times before, and it was always a good thing to experience. New deities were not a bad thing, for the more protectors Eonfold had the better it was. Of course, at the same time it was extremely bad, for new deities could just as easily become a problem if they decided to involve themselves in the wrong side of something like what was happening now.

"
Demanding that we act as you would prefer is asking us to be untrue to our own natures.
" she commented to the other child-form god, the one who she knew to be a beneficiary of liars and thieves, among other things. "
As you said, we are all aspects of humanity, and aspects manifest themselves in different ways. Your way may demand you act like that, whereas a deity of slavery would demand a different approach.
"

She chuckled, a light-hearted sound, before finishing. "
Of course, there's little purpose in telling you that. You'll still act as you see fit, and my speech will do nothing but annoy you.

Although some may have taken what she said as an attempt to get him to stop acting as he had, that was not the case. In truth, Eleria didn't care how he was acting, for she did not see it as something that important. The aspect of humanity that had created him had molded him into what he was, and that wasn't something that she could change. It was the same as everyone else here. They were what they were for a reason, and that reason was stronger than anything she could do.

"
We may not be opposing Them, even if our wish is to continue the Story for as long as possible. That may indeed be what was intended from the beginning. If it was not, then there is nothing we will be able to do, for every story, even ours, must end. There is no beginning without an ending, and infinity does not and cannot exist.
" she continued thoughtfully, almost as though she was talking to herself and not any of those assembled.

"
No, there will be an ending, but it does not have to be now. The Story, like any other, can unravel in many different ways. As for your theory, it seems as though it would be a possibility. It could be some of both, as well, for the scheming of anyone with power, even should that someone be dreaming, will always awaken lesser beings that wish to carry this out.
"

There were a few things in play here that Eleria could not see. Most of it was unattainable to her sight currently, actually, but that was not a worrying concept. Her sight had been quite difficult to work with for as long as she could remember, although she somehow knew that she had been able to see much clearer before then. Strange, being able to remember before she had any memory...

As for Bastet's hope that they would be joined by the leaders of pantheons, well, Eleria had already figured that would not be the case. Should they have any interest in this, she would have seen it by now, and a group that was mostly insignificant would logically be a smarter choice to go after this. Without any knowledge of what they were working against, the Record Keeper could only conclude that their opponents would be watching those of great importance. As Bastet had been there when Ambriel had died, that may put her on the list of those watched as well, but there was nothing that could be done about that at this point in time.

"
We should assume that an amount of influence has already been used on any mortals that are important to this.
" was her first serious comment of the meeting. "
If Ambriel is the fifth god to die, then they have been at this and planning it for a period of time. While their attempts to influence important mortals may not have been successful, it is almost certain that they have, at the very least, already tried.

Sol nodded his head at what Baset said. Sure, he only understood that she was called Baset, and that he was safe here, but it was enough to make him move his hands away from his blades. He would then enter the room fully, and considering the fact that he only really understood a bit of what was being said, he would instead look at all of the other people that were in it.

The first that caught his eye, was the thing that changed from a human hung on something and bound by chains, into a woman. A slight bit of surprise would register in Sol's eyes at this. Maybe these people were like him? After all, if one of them could change their form then maybe the others could.

The second one that caught his attention, was the young boy who gestured to him. While slightly confused at first as to why someone so young was here, he mentally wondered if whoever this was merely chose the form of a young child for memory sake, much like he made his house in that strange white plane.

The third one that caught his attention, was the young woman who appeared to be sitting on a book. While he was at first going to intercept her from doing so, as all of the books he had seen before were fragile and worn, he stopped himself when he saw it support her weight.

He would then look at all of the other beings that were in the room, making note of each of their appearances, and of what little he could understand with regards to what they were saying. From what he understood though, there was some kind of Story. And that two beings called First and Second were fighting over it. Finally, they were somehow involved in all of this. More then that, he didn't understand. But, based on how kind the one who seemed to live here was treating everyone, he was sure he would have it explained better soon.

((Some quick questions.
1.) How do prophecies operate in the Eonfold? I was hoping for there to be the following prophecy concerning my character.

The cry of youth,
The howl of snow,
In Winters, both these things will show
At direst times,
On brave new dawn,
Winters joins the pantheon

For reference, my character's name will be Ren Winters, and he was born on a Winter Solstice. I had envisioned that the prophecy was of medium age and the gods would have interpreted it as being about an otherwise unknown mortal becoming a god of winter. Also, I have officially decided that my character will become the god of music, though it might be cool narratively if a choice was asked of him.

2.) How does one become one of the 'special mortals', I guess? It seems that would be the ideal jumping on point for my character, but I was wondering about the requirements?

3.) When formatting these questions, I had this in the second question, but realized it needed its own bullet point. Could Ren have received a pine needle through the mysteries of the Eonfold?

Thanks. I hope I don't sound demanding.))

((Not demanding at all, no.

A prophecy would be the work of mortal oracle, more than likely. Really an important prophecy might come the fates or another god but one about a new god would come from an oracle. Probably at the time of your characters birth or shortly before. Other gods would only pay attention if it seemed relevant to them, so maybe Persephone, thinking there is going to be a winter god or something. A god like bastet would probably not even know about it.

A unique birth would be a good special quality, like if they thought he was stillborn or something but he lived. Having a prodigal talent could be something. Think about childhood things.

And yes, he can have a pine needle and a choice of godly domain. That will help draw him I to the main storyline better.

I'd like to create mortal-to-god characters in the way hero stories are often treated. So there's a unique/interesting youth, and a journey in adulthood, also there's often some kind of help from supernatural force or being.

I think what I'd like to do is create a character to help yours. This character could be the oracle who makes the prophecy, or a descendant of the oracle.))

((No one seems to be posting, so I’m going to go ahead))

“Oh, I don’t think there’s much we can do to prolong the Story, no,* said the Lady of Cats. “But I think we can play a hand in whether or not humanity is there to see that end. I would like them to be… we NEED them, after all,” she said solemnly.

“That one is right now,* Elatha said with a nod towards Eleria. “Whatever force is at work, will already have eyes on the important humans. And even if they do not, going to a human and saying ‘I am your god. I have a use for you. You have a purpose** it would attract attention that we do not need or want,” the man shifted in his throne to get more comfortable and make himself more at home. “I’ve a different idea. We need to contact those who are more familiar with this story than we are… Those who might have an idea of where we are going, and who were are opposing by going there. The Fates could give us a direction at the very least.”

“Then we waste time, finding our mortal envoys,” Bastet said.

Elatha raised an eyebrow and looked around at the other gods. “The rest of you?” he said. *What do you have to say?”

Shango sat statuesque, silently contemplating Bastet’s theory. Another god acting as a proxy to the Second? The idea made the clouds of his mind stir. Things had been much simpler upon his hilltop. But he supposed the pine needle delegated him for a greater purpose, at this point.

His stony gaze shifted to whoever spoke. The analysis of the god called Eleria was duly noted. She seemed to be rather neutral to the situation, if not somewhat fatalist. It in some ways reminded him of his days as king of the Yoruba Empire. He fought for blood, regardless of the outcome. Granted, his patience had grown since those days. A storm could not rage perpetually, no ...

As for the talk of significant mortals, Shango felt of little benefit. He knew that his people held little influence in respect to the gods and the entirety of the Story. Not that this was to his dismay. His sect was humble, and his subjects small. They did make up for their numbers with fervent worship, however.

The one called Elatha then spoke, and of the Fates no less. Shango had heard of them, of course. Their doings were significant and their presence widespread. He was not certain of the exact range of their influence, but they certainly played an integral role to many mortals. The thread of life spindled through many, this was true.

Never had Shango anticipated meeting so many other divine beings, but he remained resolute. The Story would continue—this he felt deeply* As would the storms above his land.

He was first to respond.

“This threat to the Story shall tremble. You may consider me an ally,” he crossed his right arm over his chest, placing his fist over where a mortal heart would lie, “… I shall ensure that the winds carry us safely.”
