Angel, I am around, I have posted on Into the Fire, describing Spirry meeting the giant spider, and the arrival of the Black. Curiously enough, the environment is similar to Spirry's underground flesh-dungeons in my old stories, of which he cast his shadow-magic.

As for a staff used with a sword, it can be used in one hand, you'd use it as a spear, jabbing with the front, or used as parrying device.
