Anyways, back on the subject of wand and sword combos...
It just seemed like a perfectly reasonable thing to do. A wand is lightweight, easy to pull out, easy to conceal, and accurate, making it a perfect offhand weapon. Granted, you can't wack things across the face with it, but you can't do that with a staff either, unless you're using the staff in two hands, but then you can't have your sword.
And if Cirion runs out of magic, he can just put the wand back into his belt and wield his sword in two hands.
