Finals week is upon me for school. The horror...

Once finals are done, I will hopefully have passed both of my classes. I've flunked several assignments for English and have an 80% in the course. Things are going much better in film analysis. I got a 100% on my Film Analysis essay for [ Alien The original 1979 film that started the franchise. It was worth 100 points. I did such a awesome job on it that the teacher wants to use it for instructing her next group of Vict-I mean "students" in the next semester. =)
Just your friendly neighborhood gay boy! =)

Glad to hear of your achievement, Pink! I was always crap at essays, usually got D- to C-.

Anyways, I just got a peculiar idea that I think might be cool to RP with, set in a near future environment (though I can make it anything, like medieval, steampunk, WW1, anime, etc.). It's to blend the concepts of interrogation and survivalism into a thriller-like RP, of which each user roleplays a character who hides something monstrous within them, and must contain it less lose control and expose the dark power or evil metamorphosis to the world.

There'd be two sides for users: Survivor and Sacrifice. Survivors are those containing the dark powers within, trying to escape society who hates them. Sacrifices are those tasked to hunt down monstrous no matter what.

But there's a twist: upon unleashing their dark powers, Survivors have greater freedom and power during roleplaying, and can even briefly powerplay.
Conversely, Sacrifices have greater power and can briefly powerplay to capture Survivors.
This was meant to be like a double edged sword mechanic.

I'd be using MidJourney to create specialized images for users to illustrate their powers/transformations, the visuals intensifying the tension and thrill. AI art is very good at making horror characters (and, ironically, anime characters) so would be a unique experience.

I would be very careful mentioning AI art. It's currently doing the rounds in the art community and is generally very unwelcome as a concept. CSP were going to add something similar to their program but decided against it after seeing how badly AI art generators are received.

Okay, let me put it bluntly.

By supporting AI art, you are actively supporting stealing art from artists who are not under the Creative Commons license - that is to say, art that is not free game for just anyone to use. AIs do not have the creativity or the kind of thought process required to create its own work. It steals existing artwork and mashes it together to trick you into thinking it is making its own work.

That is what the issue is, rather than whether it can be used to create acceptable art or not.

So I think there's confusion over why this is stealing.

Creative Commons license refers to anything that is considered public domain and all rights have been signed over by the artist. There are very few instances in which this is actually the case. If a piece is not under the Creative Commons license and is used for anything other than what those who own the rights to the piece decide to do with it, it is considered - by law - stealing.

Tracing is in itself is also very bad form, and should never be used for business or creating things for other people. What the creators behind the AI generator does is nab images from artists without permission and feed it into the AI generator to make an algorithm. Whether it is physically taken off them or not doesn't matter - if an artist has not given permission for their piece to be used, it is stolen. The AI cannot create its own style, so it steals styles from artists to create a mishmash piece that isn't even true art.

It also takes away the credit for the artist and also takes away potential business from the artist - so there's another aspect to it all which is considered stealing. On a more technical level, AI art means that stuff is being scraped and put into a database somewhere.

That database *will* be used by corporations. Art, images, photos, you name it, will be turned into data that a corporation will try to make money off, it's inherently unethical, and a privacy nightmare.

On top of THAT, AI are being taught to create nudes from existing photos for headshots, which also leaves the door open for potential harassment and abuse.

So overall, AI generators are both legally and morally bad, and should never be used over approaching an artist and paying them to make a piece for you.
