Why not correlate the power of a vampire to the progression of their curse? From what I understood, Vampires often need blood because they want to imitate eternal life by using a devil’s curse.

Vampires have roots strong in Romance, which makes sense in a way, since blood comes from the heart, and the heart was believed to control ones emotions. Perhaps the Vampire doesn’t truly need the blood, but rather, uses the blood as a medium to extract the emotion (or soul) contained within the person.

Perhaps abstaining from drinking blood causes them to mutate into something more powerful and monstrous?

Just throwing out ideas. :P

I'm going to preface this with an apology, as I know that by saying this I'm fully revealing that I'm just a crotchety old man.

I hate the fact that there's a power point system, both in how it seems to work and how it's being implemented, and it's a massive turn-off for me at this point in time.
