Mmm, I'm not sure if I'll finish this bio. I can’t word this eloquently, but the Human religion seems... off to me, but I can't quite place why I dislike it.

I guess two of my conscious gripes would be that none of the aspects hint at death or finality (a very human concern, and probably a topic of interest to a disembodied god), and none of them seem like they would stand out on their own. Having so many relevant aspects seems complicated, and you can't indoctrinate people on complicated scripture.

In short, by having many gods describe how humans should live, the summary makes it seem so... inhuman.

But, mileage may vary, and I'm not really in a position to write an essay on the matter. As I've said, I can't really pinpoint what I dislike.

That's on me. I did admittedly rush through some parts of the thread.

On the subject of the Aspects;

Everyone eventually chooses one or two 'main' Aspects, which is the god that they most identify with, and pray to the most frequently.

Generally they'll choose something related to their profession. Working class people tend to go with either Marius or Dario. Bards will generally go with Shayla or Gerrus. Soldiers will of course go with Gaius or Marius. A city-guard will choose Arrus or Dario. Merchants choose Camilla or Cassius. Housewives go with Aelia. However, these are not set in stone.

---

Also, it's a bit different with Nobles. Nobles have a patron god which their houses have always worshiped, so they are expected to adopt that god as their main one, but they may also take on a secondary god that is more suited to their own strengths.

---

If you're going with a priest character, then what basically happens is after you completed your basic education and choose to stay, they give you a test, and that test determines which Aspect you are best suited to. That is basically your 'major' - most of your religious studies are centered around that god.

Also, it is illegal to worship the Aspects of Evil. Acknowledging their existence is fine, but praising them or serving them is not.

---

And in regards to death, there are basically four afterlives. A Chaos afterlife, an Order afterlife, a Good afterlife, and an Evil afterlife.

Chaos - Basically a massive celebration, with feasting and drinking. Worshipers of Gaius get to fight each other in eternal battle, and worshipers of Gerrus get to play music or produce works of art to decorate the hall.

Order - Also has lots of feasting, but a lot more subdued. There is also a massive library which basically contains every piece of knowledge. Also, worshipers of Camilla are permitted to briefly cross into the Chaos or Good afterlives to visit family members.

Good - This is more like the traditional heaven. Located in the clouds with choirs of angels and constant peace and all that. What sets it apart from Chaos or Order is that it is said to be free from pain or any sort of worry. People who were particularly virtuous or heroic may also be made into angels themselves.

Evil - This, of course, is more like the traditional hell, which is what you get if you worship the evil gods. Your role here depends entirely on what you did to get yourself tied up with the Aspects of Evil in the first place. If you manage to become a villain who was well-known and feared, you basically become a powerful demon. If you were merely a henchman/grunt who served ably, then serve your master as you did in life, generally as an imp or a hellhound. If you never amounted to anything, or were simply a complete and utter failure, then the better villains get to torture and torment you for sport for the rest of eternity.

Huh. Personally speaking, I prefer the idea of re-incarnation to the idea of sitting around some cloud in a toga sipping wine while experiencing bliss for eternity. I imagine that would get stale, especially for a hunter/gatherer species. Better to just wipe my mind and send me right back in!

I imagine changing patron deities from your forefathers would be a daunting prospect for anyone who remains with the church, as you would essentially be separated from your family for eternity. That's not even considering lovers or friends (such relationships must be REALLY difficult to sort out on the other side).

Also... it seems people in this world are actually REWARDED for being over-the-top evil. Which is something you generally don't want to advertise in your book of holy prayers.

Personal values aside, I guess that makes a little more sense.

Question: should we consider reading and writing to be "craft magics"?

I mean, I can't imagine the literacy rate outside of noble households or magical colleges to be all that great.
