No. Matrixes are one of the machines Crystallis can power, and they can be used personally to achieve 'powers' so long as you use the matrix. However, combat matrixes are NOT common at all. They're, I think, almost entirely military use at the moment.

So no, you can't just have one.

There are civilian use ones, which is what Gareth has at the moment, but they're typically weaker than the military-specced models.

I think X7A has some time-travelling capabilities, which would be fun to work with.

Noooooooooope.

I mean...if you wanted them to develop, I'll roll with it, but that wasn't in the planned character abilities.

You find it or you buy it.

Neither are really available right now.

Oh, and nobody is going to sell a combat matrix to a 12 year old.

As for how it works, George explained it pretty well. I suppose I'll take another look and see if I need to add anything.

EDIT: Unless you've got any specific questions, the summary he made is good enough.

A piece of Crystallis powers a matrix. The matrix allows you to cast spells. Cast too many spells and it overloads. Considering how there are civilian models, you can probably just buy one, though I imagine it would be regulated in some way. Beneath the gold, the Bitter Steel.

I also imagine they're relatively expensive, given they allow you to fling what amounts to magical abilities around.

I mean, there's probably a good reason some of the more capable characters don't already own their own matrix. Civilian or otherwise.

+1

A civilian combat matrix is regulated both by the cost and by the fact that you need a reason to have one. Most people won't ever need one because they'll never be in a relevant situation, so unless you've got the paperwork (which currently is a process that's a massive pain in the ass to go through) you won't be able to get one anyways.

Admittedly, they're not that expensive; most people can actually afford them, or at least a very low-tier one, if they wanted to.

...why is Annie still shivering? I thought the ship was being heated.

Shock? It's a realistic reaction.

I'd accept this if she was acting like it at all.

Ah, peculiar. Well, back-stabbing governments are coming in stories, hm? Even in real-life, governmental personnel can be quite psychopathic, but fortunately, they are few and far between.

Inferi,
Oh, nvm then, I seem to have misinterpreted X7A’s capabilities.

Anyways, I will try to post in APTtS tonight. I just got back from snow-throwing and snow-shovelling, had very little sleep last night, am tired, and a bit worn-out after making a turn in Wake Up. Just give me a few hours to regenerate.

As for teachers with guns, which I take was West's little jab, WWELLLL, if a teacher has a firearm licence, I suppose it's reasonable for a teacher to bring one's gun to school with the intent for self-defence. Police patrols seem a better plan, tho. As bad as this might sound, teachers of colleges/universities are not required to risk their lives for others, that's the duty of the police and soldiers. Nevertheless, heroic teachers are admirable, and I have great respect for them.

Anyways, I'm off to paly For Honor with my older brother, be back in a few hours.
