I assume grenades aren't provided because of budget issues in ME2, or because they weren't standard Cerberus weaponry. Behind the scenes, they were pretty clumsy in ME1 and probably weren't polished enough until the later DLC's of ME2. Grenades DID appear in ME2 and ME3 as abilities.
I didn't consider revealing your own position as a consideration - in a world with advanced AI and hacking tools, would you tie a live grenade connected to the extranet to your own arm?
I see, oh well. I just really liked those disc grenades, it was such a cool concept. Yes, I do recall something like that, an ability that uses grenades, but the spinning flying disc bomb was what I was thinking about. But oh well, it's a very minor thing.
Hm, an exploding omnitool! Would make a good trap.
Rare guns are left abandoned in the middle of the floor, and universal ammo (heat syncs and grenades) are scattered about like candy for enemies to pick up.
