Yeah, but that's a problem because a normal kid won't really be very good in dealing with situations that require some adult mental ability.

I mean, if there's a reason the kid wouldn't mind getting swept up into something that (theoretically) will be throwing death at you...well, they'd still be a kid. And somewhat useless unless they weren't normal.

Please, you have enough adults. :P

So long as the children stay children, they will see problems or solutions that adults can't (real or imaginary). Sometimes experience is a hindrance, especially in the unknown. The way I like to think of it is, kid's aren't dumb - they're just inexperienced. And this makes them great learners. Their open minds, I feel, more than make up for their lack of physical prowess (which could trump an adult, depending on their lifestyle choices).

As for how useless a child would be - I suppose that depends on the situations you give.

In any case, it's up between you and Annie if she wants to use it *shrugs* I'm just the idea guy.

I suppose I can just gloss over it, but I feel like a kid would be hard-pressed to deal with some of the life-or-death situations that most protagonists have to deal with on a regular basis. I mean, I feel like a normal kid will see a town burning, with a lot of bodies around (No, that's not a specific scenario I have in mind, but it's a reasonable example in my eyes) and want nothing more than to just be done with whatever is going on.

Physical prowess isn't what I'm concerned about; it's mental fortitude. A kid, unless they're not average in some way, won't see something like this firsthand and want to be part of it.

That's my single cent, anyways - can't be bothered to give the traditional two.

No, but the kid will want to get home. If she attached herself to a darker, weirder character like Azi's, she might act as a sort of foil or moral pet. Because everyone knows antagonistic creepers make the best fathers.

*Cough* Gohan and Piccolo *cough*

It could be interesting, but the one I’m suggesting this for has disappeared. :P No matter.

Meh, fair enough. I suppose the typical kid would act like Annie normally does, anyways...

Although, there's the issue that it's not traditional fantasy, and she could probably just take an airship to wherever she needs to. It's not like the party is going to end up stranded and away from cities for the entirety of the thread.

Yeah, we should probably stop. All the points are valid, but that just means we're going to get nowhere.

*grumble grumble* You and your speedy edits...

In any event, I'll at least get some of the starting stuff written (this is for people that are actually part of it now) so I can at least get the ball rolling. As I said, if anyone wants to write an intro for themselves, please go ahead and I'll go ahead and work with that.

As for anyone that still is considering joining (Angle or West, specifically at this point) take your time. I'm not planning on rushing through stuff.

Her mama is dead, she hates her uncle and doesn't know her dad. She grows close to Azi's character because kids like weird people. With the absence of child services, who will give a flying toss if one kid goes missing?

This stuff practically writes itself!

And it turns out her dad is a mad scientist that just wants to use her for experiments, so he chases after the party and makes their lives difficult.

Damn, you're right, it does.

I'm wondering if it might be amusing to make a "childhood friend" of Gareth Jr. Maybe she'll be a dutybound redhead who wants to drag Gareth over to the military? :P

I was hoping to get Lasky's thoughts on this before posting the bio itself. :P Yes. It's a thing.

... or should I just post it and spring it on him? hmm...

To be fair, I think you need to practice with a more grounded character, Annie. Magic isn't the be all to end all for every problem, and resorting to it every time kind of alienates the reader. Even in series where magic is commonplace, like Harry Potter, there is a large emphasis placed on character relationships.

Drama and witty solutions are where the interest is at - not at characters who throw fireballs one after the other.
