As for extermination, it is acceptable if it is attempted against your faction first. For example, nuclear warfare is acceptable in my worldview in response to it; if Country Failure launches nukes at Country Success, and those nukes are destroyed, Country Success has a right to nuke Country Failure, but only with a single nuke. If Country Failure attempts a second nuclear attack, it must be destroyed. Unfortunately, nuclear fallout would kill more people than the explosion itself, which would affect neighboring countries as well, and kills lots of people.

Alternatively, biological or chemical warfare could be more useful alternatives, as it'd be in a more controlled area. My response-in a scifi world-would be "neutron warfare" done via low-orbit satellites. If a country is troublesome, a neutron beam should be shot from a satellite, targeting the bad country, as it'd only affect those there, and be absent of nuclear explosions, but the radioactive particles would still travel by wind.

99.9% of Super Mutants and all Feral Ghouls attack you on sight. And Synths are machines built with the purpose of infiltrating human society. With only a few words, they can be deactivated and then reprogrammed for a nefarious purpose. The ability to think independently also means that many Synths will inevitably believe they are superior to humans, which could possibly lead to some sort of revolt or war. So let's just go ahead and make sure that there's a war with the small percent that actually likes us, eh? I mean, there's no chance anything could go right if we try to coexist, right?

That line of thinking is stupid, and it will lead to complete destruction. If your line of reasoning that independent thought will lead to the conclusion that they are superior is true, then even more so. If you're superior to something and there's no reason to coexist with it, why should it be allowed to survive? At best, you're making it appear as though all humans are a direct threat to the existence of another sentient race, and at worst you're simply making that race realize that killing all humans is the best solution.

Synths were also not built for the sole purpose of infiltration, and only the newest models are even capable of doing that effectively. They also have proven at several points that they do not like the situation that they are in, and will fight for the chance to be given independence. It's as though you're trying to say that they're nothing more than tools, and because they're tools we need to throw them away before they prove to us in a bad way that they are more when there is no evidence currently that they want in any way to lord over humans. There would be no war if there is no need for a war, so your claim of starting one to prevent one doesn't make sense when you could simply coexist without the need of starting any. Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.

It's a post-apocalyptic society where humanity is struggling to get back on it's feet. Why worry about robot rights when humans are starving and constantly being attacked? Synths should not have been invented: The Institute can not control them, while the Railroad coddles them and is willing to kill countless amounts of humans to protect them.

Humans cannot co-exist with the vast majority of Super Mutants (only a few followers and I think a community somewhere in one of the games counts as an exception), and they cannot co-exist with any Ferals.

I also can't side with the Railroad because they do nothing that actually helps rebuild human society. They aren't even united on which Synths deserves rights and which Synths do not.

My line of reasoning is that machines should not be given free will and left unsupervised. Look at the Coursers - Synths can be programmed to be stronger, faster, and smarter than the typical human. They are immune to radiation, and if taken care of can live forever. How long until Synths figure out how to alter their own coding, and a human-hating Synth alters the coding of other Synths to give them a similar mindset? Or what if another organization gets their hands on some Synths and recreates them to use for nefarious means? Beneath the gold, the Bitter Steel.

I'm excited to see what happens next on D37, and for non-faction leaders to finally exist on 2746! I've had a fair bit of stress over the past few days and spending the other day making posts felt good, so reading new ones will also help. :)
