Kargill lay there on the cold ground. Pain shot all throughout his body, and it was exhausting enough just to stay conscious. He was losing blood and kept fading in and out of consciousness.
His life began to flash before his eyes. Memories of days past began popping into his head. Kargill remembered when he was a young boy still in the elfin lands. He remembered the pain, the suffering, and most of all the blood. Blood was everywhere. It covered the walls and filled the streets. There were pools of blood everywhere. With every step Kargill took blood sprayed up his legs as he ran through it.
Kargill could not die here. His legacy and his clan name would live on. Kargill was the last of his kind, and all hope rested on him.
With this new hope all of Kargill’s pain seemed to slowly dull and go away. The power of his clan burned deeply inside of him. With every heart beat he could feel magic and adrenaline pulsing through him.
New feelings that he had never before felt began to form within him. There was an intense hate and a thirst for his opponent’s blood that he never before had. Darkness swirled and grew within him. His dark past slowly became more and more clear.
Kargill grabbed his staff and began to stand up. At first he fell, but on his second attempt he was standing at full height.

Garth turned to face his rejuvenated foe.
"You just don't know when to stay down."
Kargill had never felt so strong in his life. He raised his staff and let the energy inside of him built and build. His vision turned red and all he saw was the hate he had for Garth. Kargill lowered his staff and began to spray water like a fire hose at Garth. Every second hundreds of gallons of water seemed to appear out of nowhere and rip and tear at the assassin.
The flow of water began to subside as Kargill took a good look at his foe. Garth was drenched in water and covered from head to toe in cuts and bruises.
“Is that the best you got?” the furious Garth yelled.
“Not even close,” Kargill replied. The ground began to shake as a pillar of ice erupted from the ground and charged at Garth, who barely managed to avoid the attack.
“You missed me,” Garth said mockingly. He had his scimitar in his right hand and his dagger in his left, ready to finish the fight.
“Who said I was aiming for you?” Kargill replied. The assassin heard a crackling as the water around his legs solidified. The small pool of water he had been standing in had been completely frozen. Garth was trapped in ice halfway to his knees.

“Dodge this!” Kargill screamed. A giant pillar of ice erupted from the ground. Garth tried to move, but was stuck in the frozen ground. He crossed his arms and another almost invisible barrier configured around his body. The pillar of ice hit the barrier a head of collision. The two forces held firm against one another for a moment. Then with a surge, the ice pillar smashed through Garth's barrier and into his body. The ice around Garth’s feet broke the assassin was flung spiraling into the air like a rag doll.
All of the adrenaline and magic that had been flowing through Kargill’s sapped and faded away the next instant. He fell to his knee, barely able to keep his body upright. He looked up and his face froze up in horror.
Garth was clearly very badly injured, but alive. He picked himself off the ground and readied his weapons. Garth was hurting like nothing he had ever felt before in his life, but he would continue to fight until the last breathe.
"I've failed," muttered Kargill in between gasps of air. The excruciating pain in his torso again returned, only this time it felt much worse than before. His face fell into the ground and he slipped into unconsciousness.

Garth had no time to celebrate his victory when his eyes nearly popped out of his head, and his body was flung lifelessly forward like a rag doll. Standing directly behind Garth was Kane, his obsidian maul in hand. He had used Kargill as a distraction to sneak up behind Garth and take him down from behind. He never even knew what hit him.
Everything had gone accordingly to plan. Both Kargill and Roven had followed Garth to Burthrope, the location where he knew Garth would gone to and the one he had given them earlier in the morning. The only thing he had not expected was for Kargill and Roven to do so well against the assassin. Kane had expected the two to weaken and tire Garth out, leaving him to pick up from there. But the two had obviously grown significantly stronger and had almost been able to defeat the assassin by themselves.
Kane's eyes shifted to the bodies of the two White Knights. Both of them were clearly unconscious, but they were alive and breathing, albeit weakly. Roven was tough and his thick armor would have luckily taken most of the blow, but there was no doubt he needed some quick medical attention. As for Kargill, he had no worries. He had magic in his blood and he healed unnaturally fast since he was an elf.
Kane removed his commorb from his pocket and dialed up the White Knight's post.
"Hello, this is Private Stall. How can I help you?"
"This is Captain Kargill and Roven of the White Knights," lied Kane in his best accent. "I am at the southern end of Burthrope and have the killer in custody. We are in need of medical assistance and transportation immediately."
"Got it sir, we will be right over," the private replied. Kane pocketed his commorb and then once again disappeared into the shadows. If he hurried he would be able to get back to Falador well before Kargill and Roven, and no one would be any the wiser about how he had helped capture Garth.
Everything had gone according to plan.

Kargill woke up nearly a day later in the White Knights infirmary. Across the room, Roven lay there in another bed. The room was filled with White Knights that all began to cheer as Kargill awoke.
"It is good to finally have you awake Gill," his good friend Griff told him.
"You did well," he could hear Kane mumble from a few feet away.
"How is Roven doing?" Kargill asked the room of White Knights.
"Well he is doing a lot better off then you were," Griff replied. "He obtained a nasty wound, but his armor protected him from anything serious."
"What about the killer? Did you manage to find him?
"You mean Garth?" Griff asked. "Of course we found him, you two were the ones the defeated and helped bring him in! He is in interrogation right now. That's how we got his name."
"None of this makes any sense. I lost unconciousness and Garth was still standing. I though I had failed."
"Apparently not. He was found unconcious along with the two of you. You must have weakened him eneough that his wounds got the best of him. Anyway, so far the interrogation has gone by smoothly. We did not get him to talk but our mages did manage do invade his mind and take that information by force."
Kargill continued to lay in bed and stare at the ceiling above him. The room remained quite until Commander Lorad barged in.

"Kargill! Good to see you!" The large Fremnik yelled.
"Are you all right, chief?" The confused elf asked his commander.
"What do you mean? Did you think I would be mad that you two went into Burthrope?" Kargill nodded his head at this.
"Well you broke the treaty, but you did manage to get the killer without their military finding out, so everything is all right. But do it again and I'll skin 'ya alive," Lorad assured him.
"Did you find anything out from the killer?" Kargill asked.
"I will let you recover before I let you in on that. But I will forewarn you on something," the commander said with a pause. Lorad stood their as if trying to find the right words.
"Let's just say that this is only the beginning."
End of Chapter 6

AUTHOR'S NOTES:

All throughout the story there have been some small and relatively subtle changes since I wrote the original. One example is when Garth sees and follows Darusta. The outcome remains the same, but the way he follows and meets Darusta was a bit different in this one.
However, in the last chapter and in the upcoming chapters, the changes are going to be more significant.
The first of which happened in the last chapter. In the original In Bad Company, Kane was in no way involved in the fight with Kane. In this version, he actually ends up following Kargill and Roven to Burthroping and being the one to defeat Garth. All of you that read the original In Bad Company will most likely have noticed this.
Because of this, I will begin posting 'Author's Notes' at the end of the upcoming chapters to let you all know of these changes and how the events went down in the original.
